"A glimpse into the British Colonial Past..."
From the moment you arrive you feel as if you are stepping back in time. This place reminded me of a time when grace and elegance dictated all manners of life. The lounge has a piano and seating place for relaxing or enjoying a casual meal. The room is spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was small and hard to navigate. The service was excellent. The staff went out of their way to make the stay a most memorable one. Try the spa with the tea bath and Balinese massage. We left our formal shoes/clothes in Kuala Lumpur at the hotel we were staying. Unfortunately that limited our access to the dinner restaurant at this resort which has a dress code. So be sure to bring a set of formal shoes. The staff accommodated us in the Hot Pot restaurant. Hot Pot or Steamboat food involves Asian Stew, which you cook at the table. It consists of stock ( broth) in a metal pot. As the the hot pot is simmering, other ingredients are placed into the pot. These include meat ( chicken, beef, fish, shrimp), leafy vegetables, egg dumplings, and tofu. You eat it with various dipping sauces. It is something we tried for the first time and found to be delicious. This is a great activity for the family. Our little explorer loved making his own meal. This dish is traditionally served in the Winter season. There is not much else at the resort except relax which is sometimes a welcomed escape. Nearby go and explore the Boh Tea plantation. It is a nice place to have a cup of tea overlooking a beautiful view.
"The Best Of The Cameron Highlands"
The Cameron Highlands Resort is an excellent five star resort has plenty of history in the middle of the Cameron Highlands. The resort has a very cool colonial feel, with some of the architecture dating back to 1070! The hotel feels like a very luxurious yet welcoming colonial home, complete with wood flooring, a common area fireplace, and beautiful white shutters. THE ROOMS The Resort has 56 total rooms and suites, which perfectly captures the colonial yet comfortable feel found in the lobby. The Deluxe room is perfect for a couple with a king sized bed, nice seating area, and private balcony overlooking the neighboring golf course. It was great to be able to make a cup of wonderful tea, which was provided in the room, and sit on the balcony reading my book. It was truly an escape from the busyness and heat of Kuala Lumpur, and was such a relaxing experience to breathe in the cool mountain air while looking at the rolling hills in the distance. THE ACTIVITIES The Resort organizes complimentary daily walking trail tours, where an experienced naturalist explains all about the plants, animals, and extensive history of the area. I did the “Jim Thompson Mystery Trail†on, which was a leisurely 45 minute beginner hike through the jungle with our amazing guide Madi. Madi was wonderful and very passionate about sharing his local knowledge of the Cameron Highlands. He was even somewhat of a local celebrity, as everyone else we talked to seemed to know of the “famous†Madi! During our walk, Madi made sure to point out several interesting facts both about the jungles and Jim Thompson himself, who the walk was named after. I also did a longer half day tour with Madi the following day. This tour was farther from the hotel and included a visit to the famous Boh tea plantation. The tea plantation is massive and includes a look into how the tea is made, including details on growth, production, and (the best part) consumption! There is a great little café on a balcony overlooking the tea fields, and Madi showed us some of the lesser known vantage points to take some great pictures from. The rest of our day included a visit to a strawberry farm, where we were able to pick our own strawberries. These were some of the best tasting strawberries I’ve ever had, straight from the vine! The tour also includes a visit to Sam Poh Temple, which is the oldest Buddhist temple in the area. Our guide Madi was providing funny stories throughout the entire tour, making the day even more enjoyable! THE SPA As you would expect from a luxury hotel, the Spa Village at the Cameron Highlands Resort was excellent. I had the “Fresh Strawberry Escapade†experience, which was one of the most unique spa treatments I’ve ever had. The “Escapade†involved a 2 hour massage and strawberry wrap which soothes inflammation and softens the skin. Seriously, if you have never had a relaxing massage and then covered in strawberries you need to experience it at least once in your life! THE FOOD The Cameron Highlands Resort has a multiple dining options, each with its own character matching its unique location. Breakfast is served at the Dining Room restaurant, which offered a combination of made to order dishes and a self-served buffet. The dining room overlooked the mountains in the distance and was the perfect setting to start my day. I also had a dinner in the Dining Room, which transforms into a smart casual restaurant with an excellent selection of colonial, western, and local foods. The culinary team would gets fresh ingredients each day, and this attention to detail really pays off because the food was all excellent. Be sure to save room for dessert as there are some delicious choices, and as we all know calories don’t count on vacation! Afternoon tea is another staple in the Cameron Highlands, and the Resort organized a perfect one in their Jim Thompson Tea Room. The beautifully furnished Tea Room offers a place to sit and relax while enjoying a wide range of sandwiches, strawberries, clotted cream, and pastries with your cup of tea of coffee. This experience reminded me of being back in England, and I really felt miles away from the heat and craziness of the city. A delicious lunch is also served daily in the same Tea Room, which is a perfect spot to relax in while having some traditional dishes- try the fish and chips! Finally, no Cameron Highlands trip is complete without a proper “Steamboat†dinner experience. Conveniently you will not have to travel far to find the best Steamboat in the Cameron Highlands, because the Resort has one in their very own “Gonbei†restaurant. In case you don’t know, a Steamboat dinner involves a pot of boiling soup with different flavors where you cook your meat and vegetables yourself tableside. Gonbei is a half outdoor seating area which lets you fully appreciate the cool night air while eating your meal. The manager of the restaurant was exceptionally nice, making recommendations on the best combinations of food and explaining how the process worked. You order your type of meat, including seafood if you want, decide on 2 types of boiling soup bases which are separated by a divider, and add your meat and vegetables until cooked. Gonbei was probably my favorite meal in the hotel, both because the food was incredible and the entire experience was so much fun and memorable! OVERALL The Cameron Highlands Resort is the premier resort in the Cameron Highlands, and after my stay it is easy to see why. The setting and amenities are beautiful, the food is outstanding, and the activities very well organized. Next time you find yourself in Cameron Highlands be sure to make a reservation at the Cameron Highlands Resort!
"Good hotel "
This is a very good hotel for both accommodation and food. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble as all they strive for are happy customers. It is worth paying for the luxury that you will enjoy
The most positive things I can say about this "resort": our room which was large and light, the shower was very big. Our room was very clean. The staff polite and always smiled. Breakfast woefully lacking in choice the toiletries where not up to the 5 star rating and as for the towels they were well worn and certainly due for a change! Dining area: the chair cushions could do with cleaning and while the floor is wood that could do with a good clean from dirt and food. You were expected to keep the same cutlery that you had for fruit for your cooked breakfast. Suggest you take your own hair conditioner as what the hotel provides is not up to standard either as it's a 2 in one shampoo and conditioner No garden or grounds to relax in and no swimming pool. Noise from the exceptional busy major road. This is not a 5 star hotel standard as I know it !! So don't expect much then you won't be disappointed.
"A magical weekend at the highlands..."
After two sessions of annual workshop with YTL Resorts i.e. the luxurious Pangkor Laut Resort and the tranquil Tanjong Jara Resort, my team decided to give Cameron Highlands Resort (CHR) a try this January. Situated between the two key centre of Cameron Highlands i.e. Tanah Rata and Brinchang, Cameron Highlands Resort has it very own uniqueness and charm that should not be compared to the other YTL Resorts. Even though the accommodation room is not as huge as Pangkor Laut Resort nor Tanjong Jara Resort, this quaint luxury hotel is just second to none in Cameron Highlands. The accommodation room is simple yet not losing any bit of the English tradition - look up to the ceiling, before you sleep, you will find details that make this place charming as it is. Most of the rooms come with balcony which is a nice corner to enjoy the highland breeze. An afternoon tea at the Jim Thompson Tea Room and a drink by the bar at night, perfected the entire stay at CHR. The elderly pianist was certainly capable to bring me back to many beautiful memories when he played 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' theme song from the Lion King. Spending some time alone at the car park area, starring at the glittering trees while enjoying a strawberry cocktail, can be a one-of-its-kind experience. Food at CHR is another key factor that will warm your heart on the chilly highland. Chef de Hote, Chef Soon's creativity and dedication, provided my VIP guests an extraordinary gastronomy experience. Exclusive dinner events can be done by the fireplace. Otherwise a heart-warming hot pot is another popular option in the resort - head up to Gonbei Restaurant and you will realise the Tom Kha Gai broth is another item not-to-be-missed. Should you just wanted something simple, the signature farmhouse pie will be one of the item that will make you to miss CHR even more. People in CHR is another factor that the heritage has its charm preserved. The Asst Front Office Manager, Dashni is my first point of contact who has always been cheerful and welcoming. F&B Manager, Mike is always helpful in lending us a hand; and the Resort Manager, Manuel is always attentive to our needs throughout our stay in CHR. CHR provided us a one-of-its kind experience. Certainly a quaint charming place that one should not miss at the highlands. Stay Charming, CHR... because it is just the way you are...
