"First class resort in the most stunning place on earth!"

We stayed at the amazing Pangkor Laut Resort last year as part of our first trip to Malaysia, all I can say is WOW. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left you feel like you are somewhere really special. On arrival at the jetty you are welcomed with cold towels and juice which sets you up for what’s ahead. As you arrive by boat the island looks truly stunning and it just gets better and better from there. We booked two hillside villas next to each other so our 15 year old daughter had her own villa next door. The villas are beautiful with the most amazing view. We ate in most restaurants and we’re not disappointed, in particular Uncle Lim’s is a must! Emerald bay is beautiful and serves amazing sea food barbecue. The spa was first class and the complimentary massage was one of the best we’ve ever had. The only downside was that we didn’t have long enough there! Loved it so much that we’re hoping to return this August to celebrate a big wedding anniversary and our daughters 16th birthday, this time we’ll stay longer!

"Beautiful jungle-covered private island resort"

Pangkor Laut Resort is a private island with a 5 star resort, friendly and helpful staff and great food. There’s enough to do for a one week stay, swimming, snorkeling, kayak and hiking. Or you can relax and just lie around the beaches and swimming pools. We recommend the Hill Villas, because we enjoyed the surrounding jungle and morning visits by hornbills. The bottom unit bath is the best, it’s outside. My favorite activity was hiking to Emerald Bay. I recommend following nature guide Aris on the guided jungle walk before doing longer hikes. His presentation is entertaining and informative. There is little danger hiking in the Malaysian Jungle. There are snakes, but they are difficult to see as they avoid humans and are passive. Spray insect repellent on your socks to discourage any biting ants. Stay on the wide, open trails, as the island is covered with rattan vines, with nasty thorns. The southern hiking trail to Emerald Bay is longer and steeper, but you are rewarded with views of several secluded beaches. You don’t need to bring a lot of water, since you can pick up bottled water at Emerald Bay. At Emerald Bay there is a lunch BBQ at Chapman’s featuring fresh seafood. Spa Village has the best massage we have experienced in Malaysia. You can choose the massage style and the venue is tranquil and quiet with no children running around. Restaurants Uncle Lim’s- our favorite. Good selection and fresh ingredients. The coolest view from this round wooden restaurant perched on the edge of a rocky outcrop over the sea. Jamu Bar at Spa village has healthy mixed juice options and lunch salads. Fisherman’s Cove- fantastic gourmet meal, very fresh fish. Expensive, but worth the price for a special romantic dinner. Chef Liza was helpful with our lunch at the Royal Bay Beach Club. She prepared Malaysian fried rice and fried noodles for us. Feast Village- fantastic breakfast buffet. The dinner menu seemed limited for a 5 star resort. Someone told me there was a page missing from my menu?!

"Luxury, Sun & Pampering!"

We recently took our teenage children to this wonderful resort for a ten day stay and we had a simply awesome holiday. I’d read through Trip Adviser reviews before we came and I can’t believe the odd person had gripes about tired decor or oil tankers spoiling their view from their Spa Village huts - clearly some people live in cloud cuckoo land or are lost in some sort of Kardashian-style lifestyle!! This is an excellent resort staffed full of friendly, attentive workers who all go out of their way to make your stay one of comfort and luxury - the bar manager, for example, found me 24 hours after I’d paid a bar bill to tell me that Accidentally short changed me 30 RM (£6) and handed me it back! Around the pool people like Sohel brought water, towels and waited on people’s every need. My kids and I went out fishing twice with Ravi, who was a funny, friendly and knowledgeable guide who then facilitated two different restaurants in taking our fish that we caught and serving them to us in the evenings for no charge!! The beach at Emerald Bay is superb and whilst there is rubbish being washed up there it isn’t from the resort and the hotel does do one clean up a day. Both restaurants we ate at - Feast Village and Uncle Lims, were superb. Uncle Lims, particularly, served food of the highest quality although you’ll need to budget about £90-£100 for a main meal and a drink for four people. Prices for food and drink are higher here than on the mainland but I do take an oft repeated phrase in reviews of this resort - if you can afford to stay here, you can afford to eat here. Breakfast at Feast Village was excellent with Asian & Western food on offer - plenty of choice and regular re-filling made it a relaxing experience every day. Getting around the resort is easy because the shuttle buses constantly circulate around meaning the longest we had to wait for any bus was about 8 minutes! We stayed in a Garden Villa which was spacious and clean and comes with a huge balcony and funky outside bath. All in all - a top resort for a luxurious experience. My wife had two massages in the Spa and rated them as highly as any she had ever had before. Again - allow up to £100 for a 3 hour session called ‘Morning Indulgence’ - she came back much more relaxed than she left!! My only gripe was with some of the other men at the resort who polled up at the Feast Village or Uncle Lims at night in swim shorts and wet t shirts - it’s surely not hard to wear a pair of trousers or nice shorts and a polo shirt or normal shirt for an evening meal?? I do think a resort like this ought to demand a higher standard of dress at the restaurants at night than just T shirt and beach shorts? I’m generally a slob and casual dresser so it’s not something I’m obsessed with but it’s weird that some blokes think it’s ok to go out at night in a luxury resort dressed like they were going to the beach - particularly when a lot of their wives were in dresses and full make up!! Only a small gripe but noticed it in so many male diners! Oh and we sat next to so many groups of people who were constantly on their phones all through every meal - breakfast and dinner. Shame on you all!! 😡🤯 Great resort, great facilities and great staff. Worth every penny.

"Big Disappointment"

Like most people I tend to do my research before booking a hotel I have not stayed in. So before booking this resort as part of our honeymoon my husband and I looked at the reviews. As you can see from the reviews before mine there are travellers that have left this resort outstanding feedback and I must say I am a bit confused. I had such high expectations for this remote island/resort and couldn’t wait to get there. We booked our transfer from KL through the hotel as it wasn’t that easy to get to. The transfer cost £300 for a return trip which even for a Londoner I was quite astonished. Nevertheless we booked, paid and headed to the resort. Getting off the speedboat the resort looked beautiful the sun was shinning and we were greeted by friendly staff. The villa we were staying in was a bit of a walk but it was nice and the views were lovely, but I’m afraid that’s where the good stuff ended. Being on an island, you need the food to be up to scratch as you have nowhere else to go. However I’m afraid this is just not the case. For our first evening we booked fisherman’s cove (men have to wear trousers in the boiling heat)! We had high expectations however the food was awful and for two courses and a bottle of wine it cost us £140!!! I don’t understand how they can justify charging these prices. It’s a joke! My husband woke up in the night and was ill for the next few days with food poisoning. I must admit I did feel really guilty as it was my idea to book this resort. We kept our spirits up and thought it must be a one off and headed to breakfast. My husband couldn’t really face eating much, but he didn’t miss anything as the food wasn’t great. We were served uncooked pancakes and uncooked eggs. We barely eat for the rest of our trip and we tried a few of the other restaurants and they were all below average. Once we had left the resort I got an email from Derrek the resort manager asking about our stay, I gave him the same feedback as above! If I’m honest he might as well not have asked as the response I got was pretty much thanks for your feedback but I really don’t care. If you look at the bad reviews that have been posted you’ll see the same response to those posts. Unless you have anything positive to say they aren’t interested. What I would say to the resort management is you clearly have an issue with food poising as there are now multiple reviews stating this, so please stop ignoring your guests. My advice to all travellers, read all the reviews not just the good ones. I am a well travelled and have stayed in some amazing places but trust me this is such bad value for money. Avoid it at all costs you’ll be glad you did.

We booked 3 nights 4 days here as part of our honeymoon and were left disappointed. You arrive to a welcome drink and an intro from the staff and you are thinking this is brilliant, great start. Unfortunately, thats where it ends. The only thing i couldn't fault were the rooms but this doesn't justify staying here. The food was terrible to the point where i spent a day unwell. If you are reading this review, it's not just another negative review you pass by in amongst the positive ones. This is a review of what is actually going on here and more of a warning to tourists not to waste money here. Looking at how the resort has responded to other negative reviews here this should give you an idea about the lack of care this resort has for customers.
