We visited Jetwing Vil Uyana on our honeymoon in September 2016. WOW, what can I say? We were welcomed with friendly smiles and refreshments and led to our room on a buggy. It wasn't just a room, it was a whole house with its own private pool and terrace. It had a huge stone bath downstairs with open roof and shower and washing facilities also downstairs. Upstairs was our huge room which was immaculately clean. Honestly you have to be there to believe it. We were given a complimentary Champagne breakfast, 7 course dinner and 45 minute massage each during our stay. The food was amazing and prices reasonable. I would 100% return to this hotel. The Sigiriya Rock is just a short drive away also, which I would suggest getting up early to climb as it gets really hot in the afternoon. We also visited the cave temples which was also just a short drive from Vil Uyana. It is defintely worth a visit. Lastly, I would suggest going on the Elephant Safari it was out of this world.
Vil Uyana was one of our honeymoon destinations and we had a wonderful time which is unforgettable. It was like living in nature and with super hospitality and facilities. Price is at the high end but we want to visit this place soon again.
"Excellent place for sheer relaxation"
We were there with our daughter and her family. The Marsh Villa we took had a private plunge pool, which was clean and even my grand son of 2 years old used it.Food was excellent and ala carte menu had a wide choice. Restaurant and room service staff was very helpful and friendly and provided us a very comfortable stay. The buggy provided to reach the villas and the restaurant was an unique experience and the driver was extremely courteous. All in all it had been a fantastic experience.
"Two days of absolute bliss!"
We returned to Vil Uyana, one of the most beautiful hotels we've been to, (this was our second time here) for two nights and found it hard to leave the hotel at the end of the stay. It was two days of sheer bliss. The concept of this hotel is unique. There are a number of different types of chalets strewn in a large area, comprising of tall trees, bush, marshlands, paddy land and a lake and connected by small pathways. Unless you choose to walk, one is taken to one's chalet by an electrically manouvered buggy from the central point, which is a beautiful construction that houses the reception, a uniquely beautiful lobby, a restaurant on the upper floor, and an eternity pool that appear to flow into the lake. (Some of the chalets have their own private plunge pool). There is also a library cum lounge encircled by water. We were completely overcome by the calm and serenity that pervades the place immediately on arrival. This time we were at the garden chalets, which are cottages with thatched roofs surrounded by thick bush and marshy lands. The hotel also has other types of chalets, which are located on the lake, in the forest, and on paddy land etc. The chalets were just lovely, large, clean, comfortable and very well equipped with TV, free wifi, laundry service, free fruit basket, constant supply of water free of charge, and excellent in-room dinning service. We were a group of five booking a triple and a double and the hotel gave us a chalet with connected two rooms and a lovely little sit out. The bathrooms are magnificent, with an outdoor shower and bathtub. The food was exquisite - the menu offered both western and Sri Lankan fare and both were equally good. The restaurant accommodated all our requests promptly, and even offered us dishes which were not on the menu for the day. There is a lovely little SPA on the water, where the treatment was very good and inexpensive. The biodiversity was simply amazing. On our early morning walks we saw numerous birds, several monitors and even a crocodile. There were peacocks cawing away on tree tops and one even on the thatched roof of a chalet. The entire experience was absolutely perfect and simply blissful. Yet the most outstanding feature that enhanced the entire experience was the quality of the service - from the staff member who drove us in the buggy, to the restaurant staff, to those who manned the reception, the waiters, housekeeping staff (in particular Ruwan), SPA therapist, right up to the Chef and Manager of the hotel, Mr. Kingsley Paul, every member of the hotel staff treated us with utmost courtesy, friendliness and hospitality. It was Star Class service par excellence. We will surely return.
"Back to nature in Sigiriya"
We stayed at the Vil Uyana as the first stop in our tour of Sri Lanka. We had a Marsh Villa which was a very spacious room split over 3 levels. The bathroom area was divided by waist high partitions and we would have liked a bit more privacy in the toilet area. There was also a large balcony although the view was of an open area which was mainly the helicopter landing area. We were hoping for a view of the marsh from our room but the view of the marsh was really restricted and couldn't be enjoyed in comfort. The room was well equipped although there wasn't any comfortable seating so we either sat on the edge of the bed or on the single chair that was next to the desk. We thought that the yoga mat could have been replaced with a comfy sofa to allow us to relax after a hard days sightseeing. The villa had a small plunge pool. The villa next door also had a plunge pool and the two pools were adjacent and we felt lacked privacy because of this. These pools were not used during our stay either by ourselves or the next door villa which was also occupied. We felt they were too close to each other. The reception, restaurant and bar areas are stunning with fantastic views of the lake and the wild life (including the resident crocodile) that live there. The staff were all very helpful especially helping us recover our luggage which had been lost during the (emirates) flight. We only dined in the restaurant on one evening during our three night stay. The descriptions on the menu implied that all the choices were very spicy which forced us to select the pork dish which was quite dry and not very tasty. Perhaps we should have been braver. The hotel is well placed for visiting the local attractions in Sigiriya and the staff and the beautiful common areas of the hotel make it worth a visit.
