This was a great hotel which we stayed in for 2 nights on our tour of Sri Lanka. The staff left us a surprise gluten free cake as we were on honeymoon which we were very grateful for. The were also understanding of my need to follow a gluten free diet and were able to make suggestions on what I could eat and amend if needed. The chef also made me delicious sweet and savoury pancakes which I couldn’t get enough of! We didn’t get much of a chance to use the amenities unfortunately but were very happy with the standard of the room and the hotel itself. I would recommend and stay again.
What a nice surprise in the middle of the country. We were told by our previous hotel that this hotel was great. Just know that there is no big night life here. You are going to this place to basically climb Lions Rock, see the elephants in the reserve, walk around the grounds to see the wildlife, and relax. We stayed in the forest villa. A private villa with a nice pool that is two floors. A different design where the bottom level has the pool outside and a little lounge area. You walk in and there is a small little pond inside the room and the bathroom, bathtub, and shower surround it. The second floor is the bed and it has two balconies. Probably the only design flaw are he balconies because they are two small separate balconies where it doesn’t fit two people. Still, the villa was cool and they have golf carts that take you around. A good size lake is in the middle of the resort and is home to two crocodiles, a bunch of different birds and fish. We saw monkeys and a hug water monitor in the first few minutes of being there. At night we took the slender Loris’s trek which was really cool. Do it because there is nothing else to do at night. The food was delicious and they accommodated us with whatever we asked including setting a table up right at the main pool. Cool place and worth the stay
"Expensive stay but its worth"
Perfect honeymoon location with private pool. Nice food and nice view. 4 hours away from Colombo. Better go there early morning then you can climb Sigiriya Rock. Eco friendly concept. staff is like family
well appointed villas with awesome food and service. The concept of the property is Eco and they have succeeded in serving their guests natures wonder at a very high level. On the expensive side but fully worthwhile and staying a couple of nights. Would recommend 3 nights to take in the surrounding cultural triangle sites as well. Truly is heaven on earth.
"Stay as long as you can!"
We stayed for 9 nights at Vil Uyana in Room 114 which has a lovely Lake View, having chosen it as an alternative to a beach location after 4 nights at Wilpattu. We were looking for somewhere with plenty of wildlife, a beautiful, tranquil setting in which to relax, some local walks and delicious Sri Lankan food. At Vil Uyana we found all this and most importantly in the care of the General Manager Kingsley Paul and his team of wonderful staff, who were without exception, friendly, kind, discrete and made our stay exceptional. A couple of specific points: Our booking was on a Half Board (Dinner) basis and we found the food to be of very high quality. We love Sri Lankan curry and were happy to have this for breakfast and dinner every day but the chef and General Manager went out of their way to offer us a variety of different curries to vary our menu – they were all delicious – thank you. During our stay both myself and my husband had minor accidents (no fault of the hotel) and the staff, especially the General Manager and House Doctor were absolutely fantastic in helping us sort ourselves out and continue to enjoy our holiday. We became very fond of the head waiter who was heading home for a couple of days at the end of our stay and especially of our lovely lady waitress (Sandika) whom we wish well with her career. There are two beautiful lakes within easy walking distance that are full of bird life and the local people that we met on the way were lovely and pleased to see us. If you are thinking of staying at Vil Uyana for a short stay of 2-3 nights consider a longer stay – you won’t regret it!
