This is a very peaceful spot with (mostly) lovely banda style accomodation set amongst paddy fields, gardens or on the lake. We give this a 4 star rating based on the initial room we were allocated rather on the room we requested a move to. So, my advice is....as a couple do not ask for a garden room. We were allocated a room which was closely attached to another with no privacy in the outdoor areas. In addition some garden debris was next to our seating area, the room was very dark and did not seem as though it had been prepared for the arrival of guests (covers still on outdoor chairs etc). In short, for the price we paid (expensive) it was entirely unacceptable. After a couple of requests we were allocated to a different room in the paddy fields which was entirely what we expected and of a much much better standard. The staff in the hotel were mostly extremely nice. The breakfasts were excellent - as always in sri lanka the curry was delicious - probably the best we had in 3 weeks travelling there. They mix a sensational cocktail - the carmen - for which the bar man gave me the recipe - mine doesn't taste nearly so wonderful. Jetwing charges at this establishment for nature walks which is very disappointing given the cost - unreservedly thee should be included in the price ( and were at the other Jetwing establishments we stayed in). They should be pressured to provide this given their purported eco tendencies.
We arrived on 23rd December after a long journey but as soon as we arrived the tiredness disappeared . The welcome, including offering dinner at 11pm, and the ease of check in was just a taster of the level of service we experienced for the 2 nights we stayed. The enjoyment merely increased when we entered our fabulous lodge in the paddy fields having walked along the lit walkways. A truly stunning location to explore Sigiiriya and others. The following morning we got to see the true beauty of the whole hotel and experience the professional friendliness of everyone we met. The Christmas eve dinner and the attention to detail made this an amazing Christmas. Our thanks to everyone for making it so special.
"Favourite hotel in Sri Lanka"
We visited Jetwing Vil Uyana at the start of 2 weeks in Sri Lanka as part of our honeymoon and it was our favourite hotel of the 4 we stayed in (all of which we really liked but Vil Uyana had the edge). For us, the thing that made the hotel so special was the grounds and the indigenous wildlife. We have travelled widely and stayed in other eco-resorts but this is on another level. Particular highlights were:- * Our room - we had a paddy dwelling bungalow and the scenery was just magnificent. So incredibly lush and surrounded by wildlife. Peacocks were regular visitors to our room and the frogs at night made the most incredible sound. * Food - the majority of the food we had at the hotel's restaurant was delicious. We did have a slight issue with an undercooked breakfast on the last day but this may have been a one off. * Spa - if you have chance, use the spa, the treatments are fantastic/ * Wildlife tours - we did the slow loris tour and were not disappointed. The guide, who also took my husband on a birding tour that he highly enjoyed was very knowledgeable and interesting. * Overall setting - the grounds are just magnificent. We saw so much wildlife including monkeys, birds, crocodiles (!) and lizards in our hotel alone. Such a special place and the staff are lovely - I would be very happy to return.
"Holiday of a lifetime"
I travel frequently, and I think is the best place I've ever stayed. It is absolutely beautiful. The surroundings are gorgeous (lush vegetation, rice paddies and water), the rooms are luxurious, and the food is amazing. We had four units, each with their own pool, which the kids loved. The staff don't just meet your every need, they anticipate what your needs may be. During our time there (there were 10 of us, including grandparents and four children) one of the kids was unwell and needed to go to hospital. The hotel transported both the child and his parents back and forth and supplied bedding and food for their overnight stay (which patients have to do in Sri Lankan hospitals) - they were amazingly helpful. We were all very sad to leave. I would have no hesitation in recommending this - whether you're a childless couple or go as a family.
"Fabulous and unique"
This hotel is fabulous. It is a man made jungle but we like it like that. Beautiful villa/huts, incredible surroundings, perfect service. The food is very good as well. Not cheap but worth every penny
