"Glimpse into the past"

Two nights at the Bandarawela Hotel proved to be one of the highlights of my time in Sri Lanka. The hotel is a wonderful throwback to the 1930s and its not hard to imagine its past life as a tea planters club (established 1893) as you wander the balconies, relax in the lounge or have a drink in the bar. Photographs around the building showing the hotel's past colonial life are fascinating. The interior decoration of the rooms is also straight out of the 1930s (along with the light switches, plumbing and just about everything else) but gets the balance between historical delight and comfort just right. A flat screen tv is one of the few concessions to the 21st century. The bathroom offered the promise of a stand alone bathtub with the most marvelous taps but sadly no bath plug. A bolted door in the bathroom was apparently once used by the staff to bring the hot water for the evening bath! The food produced by the kitchens for the breakfast and dinner buffets was quite superb.

"Fantastic experience: a step back in time"

We loved this hotel, full of old world charm with its colonial era architecture and decor, its uniformed staff and lovely gardens. The cleanliness was impeccable. The food was first class. Full of character, it was a real experience staying here. We would definitely stay again if we ever come this way in the future.

"Victorian Splender"

We decided to have lunch in this hotel on our way to Ella. It takes you back many years and the hotel is very clean and very well kept. The staff are very attentive and gives a very good service. The Rest Rooms are clean and old fashion. The food was good and reasonably priced. I will visit again if I am in this area.

"that is my favorite hotle"

Bandarawela Hotel was the favorite hotel during the stay at Sri Lanka as upon arrival students received a warm welcome by the hotel’s manager and other staffs. After the introduction, the students were taken to their respective rooms with the tutors getting the Paradise suite as an appreciation for choosing the hotel. The hotel’s staff was enormously friendly and it was very flexible for the students and the tutors. The hotel provided a guide, Mitchell who worked as a waitress in the hotel. Mitchell is such a friendly person and highly motivated, which made the trip one of the most enjoyable for everyone. She enjoyed traveling with the students through various beaches and attraction sites. The best walk was along the hotel garden which included beautiful scenery and served as relieve walk to the students because it was a peaceful and quiet environment. The hotel had a natural bath at the end, which was a great way to end the trekking. The swimming pool was a great and big enough that allowed the visitors despite being in large number enjoy. Additionally, the location of the hotel to the railway station was not too far and was a walking distance, which made it easy for the students to keep time in all their visiting places. Also, it was a short walk to major beaches and the fact that there was a town close it allowed a lot of eating options during the day. The hotel has pleasant and helpful staff, who at all time worked towards satisfying the guests’ needs in the best way possible. The hotel atmosphere created by the staff and the services they offer felt special as the hotel aims at making everyone who visits them feel at home. The services provided were satisfactory and everyone left amazed by the untiring spirit of helping by the staff as well as the hotel’s general manager. Indeed, despite the trip offering a chance to learn about different cultures at Sri Lanka, it was an opportunity to learn the importance of offering excellent hospitality to guests at any hotel. Handling of customers in the hotel industry is amongst the best strategies that hotels can utilize to attract and maintain their customers as if ever get another chance I would definitely choose Bandarawela hotel. Furthermore, a successful hotel industry offers a market opportunity to the locals who get to sell their products to the visitors all through the year.

"Colonial Oasis"

We found ourselves walking through this rather shabby town with the prospect of a thunder storm drenching us. We stumbled into this old Colonial outpost just in time to avoid a drenching. We only stayed for a drink or two but were permitted by the very friendly staff to look around this lovely historical building. Old pictures take you back in time and you can imagine the rare old times that the tea plantation owners would have had here. Stop here if you're nearby.
