Kandy was in de 16e eeuw de hoofdstad van het laatste Singhalese rijk. Zij wordt door velen als de mooiste stad van Sri Lanka bestempeld en Kandy is dan ook onmisbaar tijdens uw reis door Sri Lanka.

"The most amazing place we have ever stayed "

Madulkelle is the most incredible place myself and my husband have ever stayed and an absolute must for anyone staying in the area. The views over the mountains are unbelievable and swimming in the infinity pool whilst looking at the views was amazing. We only stayed one night but wished it was more and woke up early on our stay to watch the sunrise which was such a brilliant experience. The rooms are all individual luxury tents and spread out so feel very private. The main lodge is lovely, with a gorgeous dining room and fire in the evening. My only word of warning would be the journey to get there. It's around 1.5-2 hours outside of Kandy through very hilly and windy roads which get more and more uneven the higher you go. We got around 4km from the hotel and our driver was advised by a local tuk tuk driver not to go any further due to the poor conditions of the road. We took the advice and were very glad as the road (whilst can be navigated by a car) is not good at all for a car to drive on. However a second tuk tuk couldn't be found to bring our luggage so our driver ended up coming up after us anyway. On the way back down the next day we had to get out of the car a number of times to allow it to get over the bumps. The hotel is more than worth the journey but my advice would be to not ask your driver to do the last bit of the journey. We arrived at the hotel at 5pm and immediately wished we had arrived earlier. Also, if we had known all of the trips that could be organised from the hotel (e.g. Hikes into the surrounding mountains, cooking with the hotel chef) we may have stayed for longer but these are not well advised on the hotel website. All of the staff were so lovely and welcoming, without being too attentive or invasive. Overall an incredible experience and cannot recommend highly enough.

"Completely amazing"

We stayed here for wonderful two nights in late 2016. From the moment you arrive you are able to relax. The staff are attentive ans the setting spectacular. The room was wonderful and the view accross the valley amazing. Especially in the morning for sunrise. They have an infinity pool for relaxing in. The food was very well prepared. A mix of local and western cuisine. I saw no point trying what I could get at home and went Sri Lankan. But the thing that got me was the fact they have thought of everything, all the small details that turn your stay from a great one into an amazing one. Well worth the money and the journey.

"Luxury at its best"

Stayed one night. The tents are pure luxury and the views are stunning. The main house is beautiful. Loved every minute even the early start to watch the sunrise, you don't really need to get out of bed to watch it 😀

"A hidden gem"

Nestled away in the knuckle mountains - it was a trek to get up to and Road needs some serious work but worth the rocky journey! Absolutely stunning setting, each room with superb views and a fabulous reception / restaurant area. The pool was under maintenance which was a shame but the friendly staff, great food and perfect setting made up for it. Drinks are expensive but understandable given the trek to get them there. A must for anyone looking for a real treat and something a bit different in Sri Lanka!

"Problems in Paradise"

The views are awesome, the sunrises and sunsets spectacular, the tents are comfortable and clean.( no fridge or Wifi) The staff were friendly and helpful and I really enjoyed the hands on cooking class. A cosy lounge, a lawn for games and a fantastic vibe. You have no alternative but to eat and drink every meal there. If you want water in the communal area, you have to pay for bottled water. They stock the rooms. We just hit a few snags: management issues. 1. Arriving :Despite my emailing time of arrival, we found ourselves at the bottom of a hill and had to negotiate 2 separate Tuk tuk rides to get to the Lodge. No particular reason why they needed to break up the ride, so something is odd about it. (local politics)The Lodge should have someone at the base of the Hill to negotiate guests up. We had no idea who to trust and how much to pay ( twice) I have no problems with paying tuk tuk drivers but we were off to a bad start. 2. Pool: The Pool was being repaired. Given this is such a big part of the advertisement, it would have good practice to email us first and offer a no fee cancellation. Its too late ,when you get there. NOW: I should be clear: they immediately offered a room upgrade or a 15% discount of our rooms and food and beverages. 3.Transparency in billing. It is not clear what you are being charged for drinks. It is very disconcerting to find at the end of the stay that Beers are being charged at 700Rps and not 500Rps as it says on the menu ( "out of date , sorry") Only worked it out when I charged 1 beer alone because billing is cumulative .Wine is expensive and I think other guests worked out to bring their own. .They have great iPad technology , so that should not be difficult to remedy. The experience was still pretty amazing , thanks
