Kandy was in de 16e eeuw de hoofdstad van het laatste Singhalese rijk. Zij wordt door velen als de mooiste stad van Sri Lanka bestempeld en Kandy is dan ook onmisbaar tijdens uw reis door Sri Lanka.

"Unique location and experience (go visit the tea factory)"

The location is just magnificent in mist of a tea plantation. The rooms are in fact semi-tents, on a concrete foundation, with a walled bath room. It was very windy when we were there and at night the tent tarpaulins were flapping against each other causing some noise. Sleep was fine nevertheless. Having your tent door open, lying in bed and overlooking the whole valley and mountain range is unique. The other facilities of the hotel are good, croque lawn and swimming pool, lots of hiking activities available. Recommendation: Go and visit the nearby tea factory: This factory is smaller than others but you will get an individual tour and actually feel/smell/touch the tea at the different stages of the production process. The manager explained everything in great detail and he seemed proud of his job, it was fun getting that tour. (We visited other factories and those tours might be given in all kinds of languages, but our guides there were not really enthusiastic and rather boored having to tell the whole story again to a group of ten or more)

"Nice, but...."

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a driver led tour. Getting to the lodge was a nightmare, the jeep wasn't available, our car couldn't access the road, so we ended up getting a tuktuk the 5 or so kms which took best part of 40 minutes, up a dark dirt track with limited passing spaces. The main lodge is ok, spacious with a log fire & (expensive) bar, although the food is very good & reasonably priced. The tents-& lets face it, this is what they are, no matter whether they are renamed lodges or any other name, are fairly spacious, but quite basic. Concrete floors, very narrow beds & limited storage space with very poor lighting. On the plus side, the views are spectacular, & the shower is one of the best I've had. The main problem however, was because it was so wet & windy the noise of the rain & strong wind buffeting the side of the tent meant very little sleep. Add to that a broken padlock, which, although reported, was never replaced meant that we, as 2 females weren't entirely relaxed during our stay, although security did seem to be quite strict. If you are going purely for the wonderful views, then you will enjoy it, but be warned that this is far from the luxury experience that it is both marketed as & charged for accordingly.

"Outrageously overpriced"

Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge is indeed a nice place for relaxation. The gardening is lovely, the food is very good and the views are fantastic. However, one should remember that the 'rooms' are only tents, and not too spacious either, which practically means that they are strictly used for a night's sleep. But what's most annoying is that the narrow road leading from Madulkelle town to the lodge is in such a terrible condition, that most cars cannot use it or get bumped on the way. It is not unreasonable to expect that with such an astronomic rate this place charges, they could easily fix and maintain it, even the few hundred meters just by the entrance.

"It is a maximum 2 nights stay worth"

I always write the reviews after some time so I can write what stuck on my memories about the place not the feeling of the moment which can be subjective. First of all it is not near kandy as they advertise, it is a whole adventure to reach Kandy from the resort. Arriving at this resort after driving through a very dubious area for europeans, very but very dirty, filthy and strange which could have made me rate this place less than it deserves you arrive in a town with tamil people ( as called by sri lankian people) from where you will be picked up by the resorts buggy to get to the actual place while going through a very very bad condition road. Attention if you have a sri lankian driver with you and you didn't self drive to the town, he has not many clean or good condition options to sleep. At night wild pigs wander through this town. The way from the town down to the actual resort up on the hill is nice, with some ( not just ) tea plantations but also other greeneries. When you book this place you have to know what to expect. Sleeping in a tent even if luxurious is a strange experience. If it is windy outside you can hear the tent like it would we mooving up and down and the noise won't let you sleep. If it is not a very warm night and this is often in this area you will feel cold inside. We weren't able to take a shower in the evenings because of cold feeling even if the thermometre showed 20 degrees but it is mountain area..The staff was very nice and gave us a heat blower but it is not the comfort of a warm room when everything you touch is cold inside. When we stayed it was some celebration in the town for the tamil people and the firecrackers disturbed the silence also during the night. The cleanliness in the tent is good but not like in a hotel room of same stars. The view from the terrace is very nice and you can hear a lot of birds especially in the morning. You have only one choice to eat, their restaurant. The food is good. They have also their own bio garden with vegetables and some condiments. The service is not very good because of the attitude of the waiters, sometimes throwing the plates on the table or not cleaning after you finished. The cleanliness also here makes you feel as if it would not be at its best. There is a fireplace corner in the restaurant which is very nice and cosy. The restaurant terrace is nice but cold in the evening. The pool is small but sufficient for refreshing during the day and has a magnificent view. We didn't use the spa. You have not much things to do here just to relax but you have to be lucky not to be there if rain or cold. If you visit the area during the dry seasons you might not see waterfalls if you make trips because they dry also.

"Stunning views"

We stayed here for 2 nights in a tent with spectacular views. The tents are very comfortable, and has a separate bathroom. At night, when the stars came out, I felt like we were at a planetarium. You can see so many constellations so clearly. There is a British colonial feel to the dining hut, and the food is very good. There is also a pool, but it was too cool so we didn't use it. The only problem is getting there. You have to drive up a long winding road, and then a dirt road, with constant stops because of tuk tuks and other cars coming from the opposite director. It took us 2 hrs just to drive up. It's worth it, but be prepared for the long drive up and down.
