"1 Night is not enough"
Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, it's an old working tea factory transformed into a modern hotel, with many of the original features left in place. Staff were great, meeting you at the door with a warm welcome. Stayed b n b for 1 night with evening meal, food was good, you could choose buffet style or order from menu. Meal for 2, £40. Beer was around £4 for a large bottle of Lion. Very mild weather due to its position high up in the hills, so a cardy could come in handy in the evening. We arrived by train from Kandy,a trip everyone must try, views were fantastic and only cost £4 each for a reserved seat, our driver prebooked tickets before we arrived, he also dropped us a Kandy train station and was waiting for us at Nanu Oya station with our luggage when we arrived and took us to our hotel. Nuwara Elyia worth a visit, a step back in to previous life styles with huge British colonial influence in buildings and place names. I would advise using a car and driver to get around, ours met us at airport and drove us all around the central region, had great knowledge of things to see and best way to purchase entrance tickets. around £400 for a week , bargin.
"An unforgettable experience"
I have never stayed anywhere like the Heritance Tea Factory and I doubt I ever will again. Set above rolling hills with tea plantations, you have to travel a long windy road to get there. On arrival you are met with wonderful service, right up until you depart. The hotel has a beautiful air about it - luxury and quaint at the same time. All the features of this restored tea factory were done with pure relaxation in mind, with some rustic charm thrown in. The rooms were compact, but well furnished and very clean. The restaurant served excellent quality food, for both the buffet dinner and breakfast The bar also has a good snack menu. On our first night, we ate a 6 course, fine dining meal in an old disused (refurbished) railway car. The whole evening was organised perfectly, with the wait staff playing their roles of train captain. This was more expensive than the hotel restaurant but worth the money for the experience. The views were spectacular, and were well enjoyed with a pot of tea! Highly recommend.
"Photos don't do the hotel justice "
We enjoyed our two night stay in personal tour of Sri Lanka. The drive up to the hotel was beautiful and once you step into the hotel you go back in time. Lovely spiced tea and cool towel when we arrived waiting to book in. There is an old fashioned open lift but stairs were easy. Room good and dinner and breakfast good. Try the healthy eating option of the local breakfast of Diya Bath in stead of cereal to start your breakfast. An old Sri Lankan breakfast we Did see any where else and the usual Hoppers, The staff were lovely, we wished we had done the tea picking experience, they process what you pick and get to take it home when you leave. Beautiful gardens, you can see the pickers walk up the hill and pick the Tea fro your room. Unique experience
"Worth the visit"
When we arrived we were greeted by a member of the “ain’t arf hot mum†that is meant in the politest sense, it is amazing. You are greeted with such warmth and given a drink of tea of course! We were then taken up to our room, which was very special, small but special, the bathroom was lovely, but I can see why some less mobile people don’t like the shower over the bath. We popped down for pre-dinner drinks and could not work out what the sound was, but when we went to the dining room we found out that they put the drying fans on for 30 minutes (this is a traction engine) and it is amazing to see. When we went into the dining room we were presented with a set menu, which was adapted for my gluten free diet, and everything could not have been better. Fantastic food, amazing service and worth every penny. Loved it! Watching the tea pickers from the terrace is quite a site too. Blooming cold up in then there mountains, so take a jumper!
"Lovely step back in time"
Stayed here for three nights in September 2017. This is a really classy hotel with service to match. The rooms are relatively small but beautifully furnished with plenty of storage space. The only negative point I would make at all would be with regards to the bathroom - they (or at least the one in our room) really do need to be modernised. That said, it was adequate and there was always plenty of hot water. The restaurant really deserves a special mention. Every meal we had was wonderful and the portions were generous. Really good choice of familiar and more unusual items for breakfast and a wide selection for dinner. The service was as good as you could get anywhere - thanks especially to Yogaram who really looked after us. Would be happy to recommmend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.
