Excellent Food and a super staff led by chef Shane internet facilities poor dinning in rail carriage a must very expensive but at today's dollar rate it means nothing Sad station master on railway has left to do business
"Spa - not maintained"
We had two treatments at the Spa last weekend and was so disappointed at the standards. The therapy itself was very good. Spent Rs. 12,000 for both treatments. However the spa was full of flies (I think the Balinese girls keep edibles as offering to God which attracts flies), we were not directed to the lockers to store our clothes, nor provided a bath robe. We had to change in the massage room itself! The toilet floor was sticky, hand wash was broken, there was no toilet tissue either. The spa does not seem to be maintained at the same standard as the hotel, which is a great disappointment.
"Old world charm, a bit out of the way"
Flashback to the PST, attentive service, Lankan and British food, rooms, activities. Great converted tea factory layout. Live the tea bar! Rooms are sweet and reasonable size, but poorly insulated so needing heating in the 15degree temperature. Food is good, with local fare especially authentic and fresh. We had chicken curry and lentil soup, both excellent . Deserts were mediocre - wattleappam was backed and overly sweet, curd was good but kitul not authentic. Teas are well presented but mostly lukewarm.
"Good for a slow & relaxing holiday "
Overall experience is good - staff is helpful and friendly. Room is comfortable but too cold to sleep at night. The heater is too small to warm up the whole room. I asked for extra heater but they said they don't have one but offer to give me extra blanket. My room (416) is next to their store room which constantly there are people open & shut the door and very noisy and annoying. I asked for a quiet room when I made the booking but obviously they just don't care about my request. Buffet spread is good but I don't quite like the local dishes. I love the choice of soups they serve every dinner - this is my favourite-what's better than a hot soup in a cold weather. I tried the Sri Lanka pork chop for room service - it was fantastic! I tried the spa too which is very good but again it's the heater - felt so cold in the room. This is definitely a hotel for those who just want to relax n enjoy a cup of tea and read a book. Hopefully the hotel will be more attentive to the guest's request in the future.
"Queen of the hills"
Had an amazing stay, corner room on second floor overlooking the tea estates and porch area, friendly staff, fun visit to the tea plucking and processing mini factory within the hotel premises, mini golf area, beautiful flowers and enormous roses, clouds descend on the porch, simply picture perfect and great weather. What could have been better is the food, Indian delicacy prepared very well but options are way too limited, breakfast spread could be better. Generator demonstration in the evening is interesting if you have read the heritage story of the place from the coffee table book in the room, isolated beautiful property, would be great to have mint tea as both mint and tea is grwon right there.
