"Different .....but fitting for the location"
We chose this hotel as our third stop on part of our Honeymoon to Sri Lanka. The hotel is an old Tea Factory but still used for tea leaf picking. I can echo the coments that rooms are small and a bit of a after thought. Very small and dated compared to previous places we stayed. Activities are run by hotel, so if you stay more than one night you can immerse yourself in walks and tea leaf picking. Food was fine, nice choice, salad not quite as good as other places but good main meals and desserts. Nice ambience in restaurant and throughout, bar was OK too. It does get very cold here at night! There is a option to dine in a train carriage, rather odd bless them, but menu looked great, but we didn't feel it warranted 75 dollars per person!! Recommend hotel, lovely stay here.
"Average hotel..nothing special "
I visited this hotel this year and I visited it 10 years ago and nothing has changed .. unfortunately this hotel is plonked in the middle of a tea estate... hence the name but once you get there there is nothing to do ... It reminds me of an old haunted building ...very very old and creeky. The spread of food isn't great here.. and service is lacking. Rooms are small and poky needed to be moved from the room I was given for the size. I think climbing so far up to get to this hotel and three price paid there must be better hotels along the way
"Beautiful resort in the mountains!"
Heritance tea factory is one of the most amazing and beautiful hotels in Nuwara Eliya. From the check in to the rooms to the amenities, they did not put a single foot wrong throughout our stay. The hotel isn't in Nuwara Eliya proper, but a 45-minute or so drive from the main town along a very narrow and windy road. Luckily our driver expertly navigated the route and got us to the hotel in one piece while we enjoyed the breathtaking views en route. The moment we entered the hotel we were impressed by the warm, industrial theme of the place. The hotel is a re-purposed tea factory, and there are small touches all around that remind you of the history of the building, like the old generator in the basement or the tea weighing scales near the reception desk. The lobby is woody and warm with a couple of little fireplaces around. We were greeted with a warm cup of tea and hot towels when we entered. Check in was smooth and we were escorted to our room via the old style grille-door elevator. Our room was on the Executive floor, and the window gave us amazing views of the green valley below! It was pleasantly cool but heating is available for those who prefer the room a bit more toasty. The room had all the amenities you would need. Bathrobes, slippers, dental kit, etc. etc. The bed was extremely comfortable, and you have a choice of pillow types if you desire. The bathroom was spacious and spotless. Overall the room was done in a classic colonial style and the attention to detail is great. We also had a complimentary bowl of fresh strawberries and cream on our arrival! The grounds are big, make sure to go for the tea plucking and mini tea factory tours. You will be given a small sample of their locally made tea at the end, which is really good. We also took the tea tasting tour, which was fun and informative but not a big deal if you pass on it. The buffet dinner and lunch were good with a lot of variety and different choices. They also serve their excellent house tea with it, and we were given a complimentary glass of sparkling wine with each meal. Heritance tea factory is a gem of a hotel. They have stayed true to their roots, and though they might be striving hard for the "authentic old colonial" feel, it does not come off as gimmicky or forced. It's a bit pricey but well worth what you pay for.
"Very Personalize and Touching Service"
Arrival itself is a wonderful adventure to the Hotel. you have to go round and round to reach the hotel. enchanted surrounding and very courteous and friendly staff. they welcome us in unique and elegant manner. the hotel has been build by converting a traditional tea factory itself and they have done a wonderful job doing so. rooms, foods and service are very good.
"Just stay here - it really is lovely"
This place is STUNNING. Who cares it is isn't in the town - there is nothing to do there any way therefore just stay here - there is loads to do. Not only is the place beautiful but there are fun things to do here as well as relaxing. Definitely go and pick tea! This is super fun and really interesting and then follow it up with the tea tasting. This is a giggle with the slurping and spitting and also really interesting - i love tea but had no idea about the different flavours! We totally recommend the nature walk. We did the 10am and it was 2 hours. It was fabulous walking through the village, learning about the veggies that they grow there and then walking through the tea plantations and seeing the locals go about their daily jobs. Everyone is so friendly and they all waved as we went past and said hello! It is a little strenuous going back up the hill but easily do able if you take your time. The hotel itself is just brilliant. The way they have tastefully restored the building is fabulous and the lift is totally unique. One of the best buffets we have had here as well. I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 as we were a little disappointed with the bed linen. We had previously stayed in a Heritance hotel and had a luxurious duvet and choice of pillows. Here, it was more a blanket and sheet situation (which i hate!) and we really needed a fluffy duvet as it was quite cold. Also the walls and floors are quite thin and you hear people above you stomping around. I was woken up at 6am by the 'elephants' above us obviously heading out for the nature walk.
