"The most unique hotel around!"
The hotel is housed in a stunningly restored ex-tea processing factory, and most of the original features have been retained, from the old tea processing plant machinery to the wrought iron ceiling supports in the lobby through to the restored train carriage that houses one of the restaurants. Accommodation is decent without being outstanding, staff are all charming, and it boasts it's own range of tea products from its own plantation on which the building is located. Expensive, but worth a night's stay for the unique location and for its one off architectural splendour.
"Great stay but had to wait 12 months for a refund!"
We could not fault this beautiful hotel and its facilities but we're disappointed that we had to wait 12 months until HTF finally admitted that we were overcharged during our stay. We have now received the refund less bank charges which we were not happy about considering the fact that it was not our fault in the first place! Perhaps they thought that by not responding to numerous emails our complaint would go away. In deed at times and out of frustration with their system we did feel like giving up but am writing this review to encourage others to do the same if they find themselves in a similar situation. We booked via booking.com and the price included dinner but HTF refused to accept this and charged us the cost of dinner during our stay. With the help of booking.com and our perseverance, they eventually agreed that we were right and am so pleased that this whole situation is over as it has marred what was an amazing holiday.
We visited Heritance Tea Factory with a group of friends. One of our friends was staying there and we went to have dinner with them. Went there early evening to see the place also and it was just great. Beautifully restored from an old tea factory to the present hotel. Surrounded by lush green tea estates, the hotel has its own little estate and a mini factory which was quite interesting. We were given a tour of the rooms and they looked a tad small but very cosy and warm. The staff in general were very friendly and the service was great. The buffet was awesome. We have had meals in many places in Sri Lanka including the Colombo 5 stars and this was on par or if not better. Food looked very fresh and very well presented. The chef explaining the buffet items to the guests was a nice touch. My friends were raving about the breakfast too which has had again a superb variety as well as some good breads and pastries. This was our first time to this hotel and wish we had stayed over night rather than staying in Nuwara Eliya town. Would have been well worth it.
"An interesting experience for a short stay"
The ground floor of the hotel was very interesting, and looked fantastic. The welcome tea was lovely and I'm hoping to try the recipe at home! We spent two nights here which I think was long enough - there wasn't really a lot to do in the area. We had three rooms - two of which overlooked the car park and generator which wasn't wonderful, while the third room had a lovely view over the plantations. PROS We did the tea picking experience with tea tasting which was different and fun, our guide was very knowledgeable. The breakfast & dinner buffet was extensive with a large selection and the chefs were very helpful for those in the group with difficult diets. One night we were able to get a table in the train carriage restaurant which was great fun with good food and a very entertaining staff. CONS The food was at the more expensive end, certainly more than any of the other places we stayed. Drinks (soft and alcoholic) were pricey - guests don't have many other options so they can charge as they see fit. During the day there was a guided walk and the tea picking, both for a cost, but no free activities. As there is no pool that doesn't leave a lot of choice for what to do; you can go for a walk, read in your room or the bar (which allows smoking so doesn't smell great). The gym has some basic equipment, nothing to exciting - the exercise bike could use updating! One thing I would recommend is a visit to the spa. The prices are similar to UK although the 'Harmony' package was great value and the lady who did my massage & scrub was wonderful. The spa really needs a make over as it does't look very appealing but don't let this put you off!
"We loved the Hotel and Nuwara Eliya"
We stayed here for 3 nights and it was an awesome experience. Full of character, great location - located on top of a hill surrounded by tea plantation, friendly staff. All the rooms have fantastic views of the tea fields and surrounding hills. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a wonderful spice teal. The room was lovely and clean. Staff very nice and helpful. Food was excellent and with a very wide variety. They also have a fine dining dinner served in a train carriage, worth checking out if you want to do something different.
