"Tranquil and Peaceful setting in a nice bay"

Having lived in Sri Lanka previously I had never visited the East Coast. I think that we made the right choice for the hotel, as the others around looked very large and imposing. The hotel has a lovely setting and nice location. The accommodation is bungalow style. The rooms are large and airy. I recommend the sea view ones. The gardens are well looked after. The sea was calm in a nice sheltered bay and the Dive Centre next door (during the season) will take you out for snorkelling. The Pool was exceptionally large and very clean. Unfortunately as it was the off season, the poolside bar was not open, but the Pool boy will order for you. The Staff are very friendly and aim to please. Batticalo just down the road is worth a visit. My only issue would be the main bar is very dark. However during the season the poolside bar is open or when more guests are staying. Wifi was a bit intermittent. There were only two rooms occupied when we were there, so it was nice and peaceful. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Cottages for a pleasant stay"

Passikuda bay has seen a proliferation of several luxury hotels in the recent years. The Amethyst is one such popular place. The premium rooms have an unobstructed view of the beach and sea. The other rooms face an artificial lake with crocodiles and fish. The sea is noted for its tranquility. The flat sea bed makes it ideal for sea bathing. The resort is well landscaped with an Infiniti pool and Jacuzzi. The resort serves a variety of tasty and exotic Sri Lankan and continental food. The staff is friendly and eager to serve you.

Got to say that i was well chuffed to find this hotel and stay here for the 4 days. The hotel is right on a beach, and what an amazing beach, great for swimming, also a fresh water pool, which we spent plenty of time in. Also they have a lovely restaurant / Bar / Pool room, where we ate most of the time in the evenings. got introduced to the local drink Raki which is amazing with orange juice, make sure you get a bottle before you leave Sri lanka. bed room was great also, very comfortable and clean and spacious - each day we had different towel animals. Superb!!! also make sure you spend some time watching the river, lots of crocs in it which we got to see quite a few times, don't get too close though!

"Basking in the Sun"

If sun soaked beaches and the calm blue ocean is your thing, this is the place you need to visit. The hotel rooms are built as chalets of two rooms per block. We were lucky to get upgraded to Beach View Rooms. The views from these rooms will heighten one’s senses. The ocean is calm and cleaner than that of the Western Province. Though, the hotel boasted a large swimming pool, we were naturally attracted to the beach and the sea. There are many hotels along the shoreline. Fortunately, than looking like a stretch of buildings almost all of them are hidden in greenery and lay out a contiguous non-distorted backdrop. We found the beach in front of Amethyst to be the most straight and longest stretch of white sand. The water is only waist-high to chest-deep for roughly half a kilometre. The food at Amethyst had an excellent spread ranging from local to foreign cuisines, considering the fact that it was off season. Hats off the Chef for the mouth-watering delights. The staff were extremely courteous and attentive. We had the opportunity to speak with the chef who personally took the pain to walk us through the buffet and food choices. The manager was so considerate and helpful and made our stay so pleasant. We wanted to extend our stay. Unfortunately, our work schedule did not permit it. Thank you! Amethyst.

"Superb Value For Money"

My wife and I love Sri Lanka but, over the years, we have never explored the less developed and less populated East coast. What a revelation it was and, the hotel that we chose, The Amethyst, suited our holiday requirements perfectly. Reception, Restaurant and Bar/Lounge area form one side of this lovely hotel. Accommodation, pool and miles of stunning white sandy beach form the other. In between is a small bridge over a river where, in total safety, you can watch crocodiles and a myriad of birds go about their daily routine. All of this set in lovely landscaped gardens. Wonderful! The accommodation, semi detached chalets, are really spacious, the beds are very comfortable, the showers are divine and everywhere was( as in the rest of the hotel) spotlessly clean. The pool, probably 100 meters long and a standard 1.2 meters deep throughout is a swimming/wallowing experience and the breathtaking beach and safe swimming is a real bonus for Sri Lanka. The large restaurant is somewhat austere and the menu was a little repetitive but it was the end of season and the lack of guests probably highlighted these problems. However the food was of extremely high standard - sometimes exceptional - and the portions very generous indeed. Needless to say the service was faultless. The breakfasts were the best we've ever had in Sri Lanka, and, having established that we liked Sri Lankan fresh coffee rather than 'instant' we were provided with an unlimited supply throughout or two weeks there.! What a lovely place to stay if you like to laze, do nothing and be looked after for a very small price indeed. Thank you to all the staff particularly Paul for his infectious welcome.
