Over Arenal Paraiso

"Great setting, room good but not as awesome as the view!"
We stayed for two nights as part of a group tour. We arrived in the dark and the path to our room was not lit and with a raised sidewalk, it was a little scary. The room was spacious. Lots of outdoor noises in the night, and I realized I could see through some of the wall slats in the closet to the outdoor light - we were communing with nature, I think. It was LOVELY to wake up to the clear view of the volcano and hear all the birds. Re the room: The safe was hard to figure out and I never did, the shower floor was very slippery and there was no place to put anything (like my shampoo), there were very few English channels on the TV, and the WIFI was VERY slow (and only available in lobby and restaurant). The place overall: Lovely setting, didn't get to use the pools but some of our fellow travelers did and liked them, very good breakfast buffet, very nice waitstaff. I was waivering between 3 and 4 stars, but think more towards 3 than 4 due to various shortcomings. But not a bad place to stay.
This is a nicely laid out hotel just a bit out of town. The rooms were a bit tired and the place could clearly do with a make over. The shower in our room was positively dangerous switched all of its own accord from cold to scalding. For some strange reasons they insist you wear "all-inclusive" style wrist band, though even wearing this they wouldn't let us use towels at the pool as "we didn't have a towl card" The hot spring pools got progressively dirty from the top pool so that the pool with the swim up bar was unusable. We had good food at the hotel's restaurant
We liked our bungalow, rocking chairs, view and the hot springs. Its a neat place but would have gotten a higher rating if the wifi worked in the rooms and the breakfast was better. We had a car so it was easy for us to get to the hot springs river which is super cool..
My husband and I stayed at Arenal Pariiso for only one night, Room very plain, and didn't care for the big window in the bathroom, even if cabins are spaced far apart. Good view of Arenal from the porch. Nothing exciting about the food,, and it is a trek to the dining area.. (No choice about another restaurant.) Not on my bucket list for a return visit.
We stayed here 2 nights as part of our journey. Check in was easy and we were taken by bus to our room which was one of the furthest away. We stayed in an unattached wooden lodge with a view of the Volcano. The room is beautiful. Large with a Tv. There wasn't much on the TV in English but we found some channels to occupy us at night. We had a coffee maker with coffee provided. The only part of the lodge I didn't like was the shower. As you look at the shower the shower gel is on the left side. It means you have to stretch through the shower water awkwardly to reach it. the conditioner wouldn't come out either. Apart from that it was lovely. there was a patio with a glass partition and 2 rocking chairs. Breakfast was very extensive although no egg station. Coffee as usual lovely and cups filled frequently. The hotel lacks a bar where you can relax with a drink. It has a pool bar with uncomfortable bar stools and no ambience whatsoever. The drinks were expensive so we only had a few beers at happy hour to make them more affordable.Had there been a proper bar area to sit at that would have made us more likely to drink more. We didn't eat ant night as we had a meal on a trip we booked. The grounds have beautiful thermal springs. Luckily we got an empty one and we spent about 30 minutes here. Towels are provided. I took old bathing stuff so we could throw them away rather than carry wet clothes with us. As we waited for our pick up we saw howler monkeys in the trees across the road and heard them howling. We had head them early morning from our room. We picked up at other places on our tour but overall I was more impressed with this one.
