Over Arenal Paraiso

"Nice pools but dreadful restaurant"
Stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms quite small. They requested we re-use our towels by hanging them up, which we were quite happy to do, but there were no towel rails! 1 single hook which wasn't much use. Restaurant had no atmosphere and was way over priced. I note from other reviews that I'm not the first person to say this. The hotel is quite far out of town so we felt forced to eat at the restaurant. I suggest staying somewhere closer to town or getting a taxi into town to eat. Also it lacked a bar. The only one was the pool bar which wasn't much use in the pouring rain. The pool bar is actually thermal water - hence the funny colour. The thermal pools and the main pool and location and views were all lovely.
"Private Cottages and Lush Setting-Hot Springs Too...Who Could Ask For More?"
It takes a bit of driving from anywhere in Costa Rica to get to the La Fortuna/Arenal Area; however, it is a beautiful place to go with plenty to see and do. The hotel is a neat place with private cottages and descending volcanic hot springs to sit in (only after 10:00 A.M.). The hotel is very clean and serves breakfast too. There is even a sloth that likes to hang out by the breakfast area. Definitely a great place to stay when looking around this part of Costa Rica.
"Good views, and lovely thermal pools"
We stayed in 107 and 108 which were one row of cabins from the road. 107 was blessed with a picture postcard view of Volcan Arenal. The thermal pools are absolutely wonderful, but I wouldn't go in the wet bar pool if you paid me, as it looks as though everyone passes their drinks straight into it - being an unpleasant beige/ brown colour. We ate in the restaurant the first night, and never again. It's a dreadful menu that lacks any local interest, and is stupidly expensive. It also lacks any form of character whatsoever. The buffet breakfast is good, but on the the first morning, I went down at 07:10, and there were 3 complete coach loads of visiting diners eating, so as a resident, I had to wait for a table, and see what food was left. Other mornings saw mini-bus groups at breakfast, so seemingly the hotel has dining arrangements in place for groups. The rooms were adequate, good air conditioning and had a safe. Nice beds, good linen. The tours available from the hotel are at least 20% over priced. Go to a local agent like Red Lava, and save yourself a bunch of cash. Check in and check out arrangements were fine. We had a car, so the location was not a problem for us, but without a car, you might want to think twice about staying here. Wifi was only in the restaurant and reception, and was weird and pretty slow. We all experienced problems getting and holding wifi connections.
"Excellent hot springs"
Pros: I have visited many hotels in the area and I can say that this one has one of the best hot springs, the room is really big and has an excellent view of the volcano, make sure you book the superior rooms. Food is really good. Cons: The hotel should train the staff in how to give a better customer service, I had to ask one of the cleaning ladies to guide me where my room was and she answered in a pretty bad way. We requested something in the cafeteria and the guy didnt even look at us and he answered in a bad way. The staff seems like stressed and not train to give a good customer service at all. The rooms did not smell good and the bathrooms either. In general the hotel is good, try to book it from expedia o booking.com since the rates are better than the ones the hotels offers.
This was a lovely retreat in Costa Rica! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean with a nice front porch facing the volcano. The views when the cloud lift are gorgeous! The hot springs were fantastic! This is a great place to stay if you want to unplug and relax. There is only Wi-Fi in the lobby and restaurant. Still, the hotel is only a quick cab ride into town. We had dinner in town, but breakfast at the hotel had plenty of options---especially compared to other hotels in Tamarindo we stayed at. Recommend the hotel zip-lining, it was great! Would definitely stay again.
