Over Arenal Paraiso

"Great value and location"
We wanted to stay at a hotel/resort that had its own hotsprings. Most of the hotels that matched our wants were quite expensive except for the Paraiso. We went not expecting anything too exceptional and were very pleased with our selection for about 1/3 of the price of some fancy places in the area. The separate bungalows were great, and the grounds were well taken care of.
"DON'T STAY HERE"
Only stay here if it's worth the risk getting money or your things stolen from you. They 100% stole 200$ from us. The rooms are disgusting, mold and ants everywhere. The pools looked like they've never been cleaned. Biggest waste of money and absolutely ruined my trip in Costa Rica.
"Everyone at the Hotel helped us to have an special date"
Really nice view and hot springs and they upgraded our rooms. Leydi, Sailin and Axel did an wonderful job on helping me to get some surprises for my wife. Kudos for them, great service that at the end was what I liked the most.
For the Brits, it’s a bit like an eco-Butlins or Tropical Centre Parks. On the plus side, the superior cabins have excellent views of the volcano and circling birds from their front porch rocking chairs and the hotel grounds are lovely and well maintained. The staff at the front desk and reception were friendly and helpful. On the minus side, the WiFi is very limited (signal only around the restaurant and reception, and even there often unusable). If you’re in one of the higher up rooms, it’s a bit of an uphill walk with bags. If you’re in the lower ones, there is traffic noise from the quite busy road between the town and reserve. The rooms are decent enough but a little tatty with use, public loo esque push soap dispensers in the bathrooms, and bear in mind that they are in a rainforest setting and aren’t entirely sealed - you may have some birds or lizards scampering on the roof or in the wardrobes! Pool bar may be good if swimming in the pool, but there was no real seating area and nowhere at the hotel to sit and have a drink and chat at night over than the restaurant. The restaurant had little atmosphere in the evenings and was way overpriced (eg, $3.50 for small water), as was the little hotel shop, and instead I would recommend a taxi to nearby La Fortuna (around $10 each way, a little cheaper in Colones on the meter, can be organised by the front desk). We had excellent meals at the Rainforest Cafe, which I’d recommend. Also arranged our own tours via Red Lava website and Sky Adventures, with pickup direct from hotel - they were good too - but the hotel will also organise excursions. Even without a car (which the hotel seems set up for), if you stayed a few days I would still aim to get out on the tours in the day and eat in town at night - the hotel is between the town and the volcano and hanging bridges etc. If you have a car, turn right out of the hotel and park up in the public gravel car park or road by the bridge at one of the next hotel resorts down - the river has a hot spring with public access and you can walk down to it and have a good hot soak with locals and tourists alike.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The grounds offer amazing views. The cabins are quaint. The pool and hot springs are fun, including the swim-up bar. Breakfast was good - nice buffet, including typical rice & beans & eggs. Terrific fresh fruits. Nice massage in the spa and full gym too. Only concern was the distance from cabins to the pool and dining room. And spotty WiFi outside the lobby.
