"Wonderful, quiet hotel in the middle of Panama City "

I stayed in Hotel Deville for 3 days and loved it. I was in room 101 on the first floor which I wasn't too thrilled about at first, however once I saw the room and realized I was way at the back of the hotel, it was perfect. Also, the "1st floor" is not at ground level, which at the back of the hotel is one story down so no worries about security. Room was very spacious, clean and cool (A/C works very well). TV gets both English and Spanish channels. Bathroom is very spacious and soaps/shampoos are replenished daily along with linens. There is an in room safe bolted into the closet wall with a keypad lock. Breakfast is good consisting of breads, tea, coffee, meats, cheeses, cereal and fresh cut fruit (watermelon and pineapple). The tap water is safe to drink, brush your teeth and shave with. If you still prefer bottled water, ask the front desk to show you where "city market" is. Great little Mercado where a 2 liter bottle of cold water is a whopping $1. This less than a 5 min walk from the hotel.

"Be prepared for mistakes!"

We came to Panama City for a few days as a stopover to Cartagena. It's a big city, but I guess most tourists stay in the Casco Viejo (old city) or in one of the big chain hotels. We opted for this hotel since it looked like a nice boutique hotel with nice features, and most reviews are good. We booked the 2 br duplex with Expedia. The pros: quiet "French looking" boutique hotel in the midst of the financial center. Con: it's not near anything touristic, and you always need a taxi, scratch that Uber! (Only use Uber!!, the taxis are rip off artists, they tell you $18 for a $2uber ride!!! Con: no breakfast before 7 (most trips leave by 7). Small breakfast room. Some rooms had coffee maker, others not. Pro: big rooms, nice beds, big bathrooms, an elevator. Cons: they totally messed up our reservation! We had to call Expedia to give us separate rooms, since they reserved one room with one bed. Very little English spoken. The "kids" working the desk were confused, unhelpful and after arriving at 9:30 pm, we were negotiating for over an hour to get two rooms. If it weren't for the Expedia negotiator, we would have either had to share one bed, or be in separate floors, a far cry from the 2 br duplex we booked months ago. We know Panama City is not adept at dealing with tourists, but be prepared. Double check your bookings, and learn some Spanish! Would we stay again? Probably not, unless doing business in the financial zone. It's just nicer to stay in the Casco Viejo for the charm that can be found there. Like going to New Orleans, and not staying in the French Quarter. The pictures look good, but carpets in hallway are old and musty. Elevator barely fits luggage. My friend's room leaked. I had noisy people up at 5 am with tv on blasting (rude!!) No room service, and no restaurant (even though there is a big room marked "restaurant". And the ac's blow on the bed. I had to climb up and cover it with a towel or freeze or sweat. No bueno!! I'm not the pickiest traveler, though I sound like one, but all I can say is be prepared for mistakes!

"Basic hotel"

We stayed for 2 nights and basically just slept there. The hotel as well as the service are quite basic. Don't expect English skills, communicate via body language. Breakfast is ok, the room does not have any windows though.

"Charming hotel downtown in the financial district"

Really liked the old colonial style charm of the hotel. My room and bathroom were huge! The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was so pretty in all marble with gold details. I had plenty of hot water. The AC was great. The wifi was so/so depending on where I was in my room. Breakfast was included and it was decent- many meats, cheeses, breads along with cereal, yogurt, pastries and fresh juice and coffee. The downside of this hotel for me was the location. It was in the middle of the financial district, so the streets were very busy and commercial. However, it was safe and close to many shops and restaurants, which was nice. I just preferred the charm of the Casco Viejo neighborhood, which has beautiful architecture and quaint streets. Seemed more pleasant to walk around in Casco Viejo, which also had many great bars and restaurants. And I felt safe walking alone at night as there were tons of people out and about. The only other negative was that the walls were quite thin. The hotel wasn't rowdy by any means though, so this didn't disturb me.

"Clean and friendly staff"

The hotel is very clean and the front desk people very nice. The hotel was a bit noisy for our taste. Sound carried between rooms. Breakfast was standard continental. It was within walking distance of some very nice restaurants. Overall not a bad place to spend a few days in the city.
