"Hard to find, but worth it!"
The Deville was once a plush, highly recommended hotel in its day, and is now almost as highly esteemed, with a few exceptions. The staff is extremely helpful and kind, accommodations neat as a pin and our arrival was without a glitch. The rooms are large enough that they could be used as extended stay locations, beds are wonderfully comfy, and bathrooms are roomy and sparkling. One throwback to an earlier era that the Deville maintains is the use of actual room keys, with brass pendants attached listing the actual room number, so don't lose one along the way. Doors, walls and fixtures of this great old hotel are solid, marble floors abound and the layout is quaint, with a tiny lobby filled with assorted old-time furnishings. Here's the down side, for us at least. The Deville is very difficult to find. With Panama City's dearth of street signage, and its ubiquitous one-way streets, taxi & Uber drivers drove us around for several minutes looking for it. One suggestion would be to tell a driver to go to 'Tower Bank Building,' or 'Casino Royal.' Both edifices are just around the corner from the Deville. We also had a noisy neighbor in the adjoining room, but one rap on the door at 2 am took care of the fellow, who was quite drunk. We didn't hear another peep all night. We recommend asking for the top floor. Street noise is not a problem, but other typical hotel noises can be. And don't forget to show your room key at the fine breakfast that's offered by the hotel. Prices are amazingly low, and we'll stay at the Deville again...if we can find it!
"Boutique Hotel with quirks"
Room 219- nice room being large and breezy. Beds were very comfortable and clean. The room contained a couch and a stuffed chair as well as a desk and armoire. The bathroom was tile and clear walk-in shower door- nice. Now for the quirks. Two windows looked out to a wall- about a yard away. The hair dryer had a European plug and an American outlet. (No worries as I brought my own). They had a swivel mirror that was glued into the wall- so high that I couldn't look into it. (I am average-not short). The towels were a mix matched set but not grounds for us to complain. Lots of outlets but some didn't work. Make sure you are using a working outlet to charge your phone. We couldn't get the safe to work but we really didn't need it and didn't ask for help. Overall - I would have no hesitation in staying again. The price was very reasonable and the cleaning staff attentive. Location is good and breakfast was light and very adequate.
We stayed in total 4 night (3 upon arrival, and 1 night before our flight home) in this hotel during our 2 week vacation travelling in Panama. Overall we were pleased with our stay. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The location is convenient for getting around Panama City. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. Some items that could be improved upon is the noisy AC, the chaotic showerhead and blinds that don't work. We had some glitches with our reservations; on both occasions upon check-in the staff could not find our reservations in their system. First time the reservation was done through Booking, and second time directly with front desk employee. Luckily they had rooms available and we were accommodated.
"DeLighted With DeVille"
A fun and funky place. Some extraordinary old furnishings. Rooms are large and comfortable. Welcoming and helpful staff. Their driver Franklin is a great guy. Great neighborhood restaurants. Away from the glitz.
The only good think about this hotel is the large room. This is the worst choice I have made in a long time considering the huge offer in this price range in Panama City. My room had a connecting door with the room next to it and the door was so cheap that I hear everything the neighbors did, including taking and walking like we were in the same room. I asked to have another room and this one had no hot water (the reception guy told me there is no hot water in same parts of the building), no TV and the AC was so old and made such a noise that was impossible to use. I had a morning flight and when I went to have my breakfast I was told is only from 7 am (first time I see this in a hotel), so if you have a morning flight don’t count on their breakfast.
