"Fair for the price"
Somehow Hotel Deville is listed as 4-Star property. I'm sure it was at one time. But that time has long passed. I was in room 105. It was large. The furniture was fine. The bed was fine. The bathroom was large and looked nice. There was a nice flat screened TV. The desk clerks I dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The free breakfast consisted of breads, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and teas as well as scrambled eggs and bacon, nothing outstanding, but it was free. Those are the positives. Now for the negatives. The hallway was dark and dreary. I always felt I was walking in a basement. The room was musty. I couldn't get it cooled off well. I could hear people in other rooms as if we had adjoining rooms. The shower dribbled lukewarm water. The hair dryer did not work. The outlets in the room did not charge my electronics. The wifi did not work at all in my room or hallway. I had to charge my phone and use wifi in the lobby and spoke with others who were having to do the same thing. I booked this location through a Hotwire special based on a Four Star rating. I thought I was getting a great deal at $50 per night. Instead I paid a budget price for a budget hotel.
"Friendly staff, fair price, needs a little "
Just stayed here for a couple nights, there was a few hiccups but the staff did help some. Just needs a little attention to finer details, as my window curtains didn't stay up, so I had to improvise and there was a lot of hair in my shower drain when I went to shower for the first time. It is in a great location though and the size of rooms for the price is very reasonable!
Stayed here because it was supposedly a boutique Hotel...it is definitely not...very poor service...rude or nonexisting staff..room was dirty..towels were dirty...horrible internet connection...Worst hotel I have ever stayed in Panama..I have visited Panama several times the last two years..thought I would give DeVille a try. What a waste of money....Dirty walls, dirty towels dirty and moldy bathroom....
"One problem after another"
I do not normally complain a lot but his hotel was a disaster. We arrived about 7:00 pm when it was getting dark but there were no outside lights so it was hard to see the entrance or to find the hotel. The only staff on duty was hard working Oscar who was off solving a problem and didn't appear for 10 minutes. When Oscar finally appeared we got to our room to find that it was set up for two people even though we had paid for four. It was short towels, coffee, cups and glasses. The door broke off the armour, only one lamp worked in the room, there was no hairdryer and no internet. Oscar came up to address some of the problems but couldn't figure out the lights. By the time we got these problems sorted out, we went looking for a place to eat. The restaurant in the building was closed (at 7:30 pm with no indication of hours - maybe having no lights on the building was the problem). A walk along the main avenue left us with a choice of a fast food Mexican restaurant or a karaoke bar. It is the financial district and there is limited choices in the evening. Another issue. The elevators went to the basement where our car was parked. And so was the garbage, so the car and the elevator reeked of garbage. The breakfast was adequate but not extraordinary. This hotel is not recommended.
"Hard to find, but worth it!"
The Deville was once a plush, highly recommended hotel in its day, and is now almost as highly esteemed, with a few exceptions. The staff is extremely helpful and kind, accommodations neat as a pin and our arrival was without a glitch. The rooms are large enough that they could be used as extended stay locations, beds are wonderfully comfy, and bathrooms are roomy and sparkling. One throwback to an earlier era that the Deville maintains is the use of actual room keys, with brass pendants attached listing the actual room number, so don't lose one along the way. Doors, walls and fixtures of this great old hotel are solid, marble floors abound and the layout is quaint, with a tiny lobby filled with assorted old-time furnishings. Here's the down side, for us at least. The Deville is very difficult to find. With Panama City's dearth of street signage, and its ubiquitous one-way streets, taxi & Uber drivers drove us around for several minutes looking for it. One suggestion would be to tell a driver to go to 'Tower Bank Building,' or 'Casino Royal.' Both edifices are just around the corner from the Deville. We also had a noisy neighbor in the adjoining room, but one rap on the door at 2 am took care of the fellow, who was quite drunk. We didn't hear another peep all night. We recommend asking for the top floor. Street noise is not a problem, but other typical hotel noises can be. And don't forget to show your room key at the fine breakfast that's offered by the hotel. Prices are amazingly low, and we'll stay at the Deville again...if we can find it!
