"Simply wonderful place"
Unfortunately, we stayed only one night at this exceptional place. Wish, we had more time to enjoy the wonderful lodge, the marvelous view, the silence… just everything. Unforgettable the moment laying in the hammocks during the sunset!
"Best place to stay at the Fish River Canyon"
A wonderful lodge with an excellent service. The road to the lodge is very difficult and you should have at least a SUV. But you'll have an amazing view over the Fish River Canyon. It's a good place for hiking tours and they also offer a sundowner drive which is a MUST.
"Exceptionally stunning setting - a gem for those who want something different"
This was one of the nicest hotels I have seen anywhere in Southern Africa – as far as setting, scenery and style is concerned. Truly a one-off, unique experience in many ways, which should satisfy even the most demanding type in search of “something differentâ€. The views of the surrounding rock formations, the unexpected abundance of the wildlife in the area is just stunning. The famous Vingerklip rock itself is actually on the site too. The rooms all have balconies with invariably great vista, some to the Vingerklip some to other, not less spectacular rocks. The rooms are very nicely furnished, blending an African style with European luxury, while the large and cleverly planned communal areas are all celebrating the natural and traditional beauty of the land. The food in the restaurant is also great. So is there any downside? Unfortunately yes. It’s Namibia, which obviously means very hot climate for most of the year. When you have to sleep in rooms without air-conditions it can really ruin your stay… Apparently there is a shortage of electricity in the area, hence they cannot have AC there, plus they also have to take out some of the light-bulbs. While I perfectly understand that, I need to highlight this as a feature that effects comfort.
"Amazing location, great hotel"
We stayed here for two nights while visiting sights in Damaraland. It was well worth it! It is in such a unique location that the scenery was such a revelation to us. The rooms we had were great. Large in size, with a lovely deck and chairs inside to rest upon. Be careful not to leave anything on the deck as there are many baboons around and they may decide they want what you've left there. Ask for a room when booking that overlooks the waterhole. Our kids were entranced at watching the zebras, horses, baboons and even giraffe that came to drink there while we stayed. Whatever you do though, go to the Eagles nest restaurant. I'm not great with heights and found it 'challenging' to climb the huge scaffolding to get to the top of the cliff, and while up there found the railings a little fragile/wobbly for my liking, but it has to be one of the most amazing places I've ever eaten and shouldn't be missed! The hardest part was going from the scaffolding onto the cliff. It felt really wobbly. But my kids loved it. So I think it was just me. I was worried about coming back down, but didn't need to be as it was dark by then and so you couldn't see the ground making it much easier! Ensure you get there before the sun sets to watch the sun going down while you have a cold drink. The food itself was fine. Especially considering what they have to work with, but the staff were amazing! As is usual for a hotel in this type of location, or just in Africa, you may find amenities such as electricity and hot water sometimes lacking. But that is par for the course and not necessarily the hotels fault. Be patient if you encounter this. Take a walk/drive to see the finger rock. It's a short and easy walk if driving once parked, although a little steep in places and a little slippery, it's well worth seeing the rock up close. Just be careful with your footing. We were told cheetahs has been seen in the area while we were there so weren't allowed to walk there. We didn't see any, but just a wee warning. They may very well have moved on by now. Wifi worked well in this hotel. We loved it here and would highly recommend a stay!
Ver y relaxing stay in the midst of a beautiful nature and animals. Beautiful view from the rock for sundowner. Very good and friendly service. Very good breakfast with a lot of dishes to choose from, very good dinner in a nice surrounding.
