Over Vingerklip Lodge

"When image and reality collide..."
This lodge sure was a jewel once upon a time. Now everything is worn down, which wouldn't be a big problem, if everyone was aware of that. But as we experienced the staff still believes to be in one of the most excellent lodges of the country. We were given a room, which was nicely looking at first sight. Worn down on the second. But it also wasn't that clean. No big deal for us, as we were coming from Erongo Wilderness Camp where we just had a tent and a toilet outside. When we went for dinner, no one served drinks. We asked a waiter and he said, we should go to the bar and get our drinks there. This was the first time, we felt a bit strange. As we came back from dinner we realized that there was rat poo falling from the straw-roof of our bungalow. And suddenly a rat baby fell from the ceiling and died squeaking on the ground. I reported this incident at the front desk and was given the room next door (sharing the roof with the rat nest again and full of bugs). So I called the agency and we were given another bungalow. No-one from the managing staff showed up to say something about this. In the morning at breakfast my wife got this napkin you can see in the attached photo as fresh one on her table. The animals were nice, we saw nine giraffes on the evening. The rest was horrible and had potential to ruin someone's vacation. We cancelled the second night and went to another lodge.
make sure to book your dinner at eagles nest!!!!! this small retaurant/bar on top of the hill is really amazing with a wide view around; if dinner is booked out go for a drink especially a sundowner there makes your day! also apart from this the lodge is great and fits perfectly in the surrounding landscape the rooms are small but everything you need is there and every unit has its own private veranda just great!
"Lovely meal, great outlook"
We stopped here for drinks after a walk up to the Vingerklip. Lovely indigenous garden, friendly staff, good service. Enjoyed drinks and lunch with a wonderful view over the plains and interesting mountains. Intrigued by the Eagles Nest Restaurant a climb up the mountain but did not go up. Would like to return for a stay
"Fraud at Vingerklip Lodge : debited twice the stay (2 nights)"
Booked my trip through Booking.com. Unlike the other internet bookings for which I only had to pay for drinks and measl, at the time of check out, an old fat lady at the counter in Vongerklip lodge said that that I had to pay for my stay (1 pax, 15 to 17th march). I insisted and she became very agressive. Finally I paid. I have been debited twice , the price of the 2 nights booking (debited on march 12th) and the 2 nights plus meals and beverages, on the 17 th of march. The payment is fraudulent, never listen bullying staff.... The standing of the hotel is not what is claimed : dirty pool, windows never cleaned, towels at the pool that are dirt as well as in the dining room. Decoration is out dated. You wonder why there is so much staff around while they cannot serve you a drinl at the pool. Very laid back staff : i had book for a diner at the top of the cliff, once up they said they were fully booked. Hard to hear when you twisted your knee and feel hard to walk. So yes, I will always remember VINGERKLIP LODGE. My poorest experience in Namibia.
"very unusual place to stay"
A rather strange place to stay amongst the rock formations and the Vingerklip itself. Spacious room with rather 60s style décor but clean with great comfortable cane loungers on our private patio. Whole place needs a bit of modernisation but everything you need was there. I didn't swim although there are two pools as the water looked a bit murky. Food was generally fine, buffet meal for breakfast and in the evening with limited choice for non-meat eaters. Restaurant itself rather unmanaged so had to find your own cutlery, napkins etc although individual staff very pleasant. Site is very up and down with a lots of steps and winding paths, definitely not one for anyone with mobility issues, especially as very exposed so quite hot. We went on an evening drive which we paid for but there are very few animals - this area prior to 2017 has had no rain for 4 years so sadly animal stocks very depleted - for example only 3 zebras remaining. Drive was good though with plenty of other information from the guide. This is a very small reserve so in real trouble when there is drought. Easy to go for a walk by yourself, we went out early and saw the troop of baboons waking up and viewed springbok and jackal in the distance. Took up offer of evening meal at Eagle's Nest high on the rock. Quite a demanding climb, especially the fire escape stairs but can do at your own pace and definitely worth it for the view, especially the sunset. Nice meal served at tables, they kindly took up extra vegetable options for me as I had told them when we booked that I was a vegetarian - there was plenty. Meat eaters meal very much enjoyed by my husband and most people seemed to be going back for seconds! Back down the stairs in the dark but well lit and quite manageable just going steadily. Good place for star gazing, good view of the milky way - we lay on our loungers and watched for some time.
