This hotel tied for best in Bali on our ocean-centric Honeymoon. Interestingly, the hotel did not have an electrical adaptor for US two or three pronged plugs, which may be a function of not many US customers. However, when the manager found out, he went home and got his personal adaptor for us. Maybe the best way to conclude a dive trip in the Indian Ocean with manta rays is to come back to a flower bath! My bride and I were ongoing blown away by the views, the attentiveness of staff, the room (special occasion room 11) and the ethos of the Balinese people. It should be noted at the conclusion of our otherworldly stay, the manager gave us the adaptor for the rest of our trip. He insisted on gifting it to us, not accepting payment.
"Lovely place on lovely island"
We stayed in a one bedroom villa, we had a lovely view and the villa with a small private pool, that was great! The room is on the hill which is quite a climb, but they will take you to your room in a golf cart anytime you want. The deck is great for sunset drinks and a bite or a pizza for dinner. The restaurant around the pool is also very nice! For breakfast, try the bowl of goodness, it is great!
"Our fourth stay"
This was our 4th time back to this great resort. The rooms are gorgeous and very clean with fantastic views. We love Island and the lovely friendly locals. Although we will return the resort had a new manager and manly all new staff who were inexperienced with service for both our breakfast but especially our dinner. We had to wave staff over to our table at night to get any drink service at all. Maybe the new manager should instead of walking around at breakfast asking how is your room be walking around at night to ensure her clients are getting their food and drinks ordered for the duration they are sitting in the restaurant .
"Pretty solid, but had some lower points for us."
I wanted until I returned home to write this review, since I wanted to give myself time to really think about what I liked and disliked about this specific hotel. Let me first say that the views are incredible; so much so that I couldn't stop looking out to the ocean every single moment I was outside. Batu Karang is a great hotel, as long as what you are looking for is a hotel right in the middle of the busy boat port that has strenuous hills to traverse. I actually hike and have summited a few mountains in the states, so this wasn't too bad of hikes up to the pool, but if you are not in pretty great shape it will be tough. I feel it is important, as a traveler, to be very true to yourself and what you are looking for when it comes to your dream vacation. The photos of this hotel make it appear to have a beach, but it actually has zero beach out front, you have to walk either left to get to a beach. If looking at the sea and you walk to the left, you'll walk past restaurants and other hotels and end up in a lagoon style beach; if right you'll end up right back at the beach your transfer boat dropped you off at. We wanted views, but I also appreciate, and normally only stick with hotels that are beach front. This isn't a deal-breaker for most people, but it's something to consider if your plan is to just hang out on the beach everyday. However, the placement on the steep hill is how this resort has such beautiful views ... so you just need to think about what is important for your trip to Lembongan. The room was pretty stunning. We had a studio villa with views of the surrounding islands; we had villa 4. Both of us really enjoyed the outside tub, shower, and that the toilet had the view of the ocean as well. The bed was comfortable and room was always well maintained by staff. Where I felt this hotel falls short is in staff attention and especially the food. The only thing that we ate in Batu that we liked was the breakfast. The food at the restaurant just was not good. We tried the chicken sandwich and both got sick; in fact, during my entire stay on Lembongan (only 3 days) I was pretty sick to my stomach. I was a tad weirded out by this hotel because the staff is mostly very young. While I understand that I am likely using ethnocentric views in this regard, they really did seem in high school and not very attentive, especially in their lookout bar. Where I really became upset was staff told us they would take our luggage down to the boats around 30 minutes before our boat departure time. About 10 minutes before the boat was scheduled to leave the harbor we still didn't see our bags and everyone else had them on the boat. In Indonesia, they aren't just going to hold the boat for you, so we needed our stuff, fast. My husband and I ran up the steps and back to the property and were told they were takin them down "now". We walked back down to the beach and still nothing, but right as they were about to head off our stuff arrived, so we were finally safe to get on the boat. This happened to another guest from the same hotel, same day, too. I felt that Lembongan was a nice place to visit for a few days, but I know we won't ever return when we visit Lombok and Bali again. It is a tiny island that is nice to explore, but it didn't really deliver the type of experience we were hoping for. The villas are beautiful, but it seemed to fall short for us in terms of service and food. If you are looking for gorgeous views, a comfortable bed, and a good massage, this is your place. If you care about beaches, food, service, and traversing a mountain of a hill daily, don't stay here. This is definitely a luxury resort with all normal standards, it just fell short for me.
"Incredible customer service in a beautiful and quiet location"
Batu Karang – you have completely out done our expectations and beyond. This was the most amazing holiday we have ever had, and we will surely be back to visit in the not-so-distant future. Our rooms (one bedroom villa, and superior one bedroom villa) had spectacular views of Mount Agung, the rooms were always impeccably cleaned, the complimentary breakfasts were always incredible and I cannot recommend this resort more than I already have. I simply don’t have words for how much we loved this place. We stayed in one bedroom villa number 3 and superior one bedroom villa number 12 - both had incredible views even though #3 was right near the restaurant (walking distance, barely a hill!) and #12 was at the very top right near the lap pool and swim-up pool bar. The staff never had a problem with driving us to our rooms! Amazing! Our spa treatment was absolutely to die for as well. Batu Karang staff went truly above and beyond for us. We had a few bumps along the way that were quickly and seamlessly resolved; 1. Our booking had some trouble with the third-party website, but the staff worked around our cancelled booking and we were upgraded to a superior villa! 2. We put three white shirts in to be laundered: two of them reacted to the laundry liquid but the staff personally tried to stain remove the damage from the two shirts and one was fixed, they replaced the money for the other one badly damaged shirt, and then personally brought them back to Australia to post them back to us. How’s that for customer service and satisfaction?! Honestly, we completely felt spoiled by the staff at Batu Karang. EVERYONE was so smiley and helpful, it almost felt like family. We cannot thank or recommend Batu Karang enough. True luxury in Bali, and memories we will never forget. Thank you so much Batu Karang.
