"So civilised! Classy, calm, chilling. LUXURY!"

   21-05-2017
In short this is a true 'luxury' resort hotel with everything you need for a completely relaxing break in a great setting and very close to Hoi An town. I don't think you'll find better (and we've stayed in others here). I think the Victoria is worth a little more detail than that "in short": Luxury is easy to appreciate, too easy to take for granted, but much harder to deliver. We expected luxury here because of a previous encounter with the Victoria and they indeed delivered it for us. We came across this hotel when visiting Hoi An back in 2011, having come by to hire motorcycles and sidecars. We liked it so much better than our (quite nice) hotel we resolved to stay here if ever revisiting. As you go up the stairs to the hotel reception you know you're entering a real luxury hotel, rather than a good hotel that pretends towards luxury. Cleverly laid out, spacious, well furnished, tasteful. When you look out at the infinity pool that overlooks the ocean, with palm trees and loungers around it and a bar/cafe on the side you immediately feel that you're on holiday. But our expectations were not just high because of the 'look' of the place. We had expectations of real 'attention to detail: when we wanted to rent vintage motorcycles and sidecars (with drivers) the GM asked us to come by the hotel in advance to make proper arrangements for our day out (which puzzled us a little) but since then I've never forgotten him; "Monsieur Claude" was to our very English minds the perfect French gentleman (and I mean this is the most delightful way, we English are all Francophiles), of course we would discuss what to see and where to go but the real arrangements were about food, the picnic really needed proper attention. Of course there would be fruit and salads, but did we want assorted charcuterie, imported french cheeses, top quality baguettes, would we prefer white or red wine (French of course) or beer? Questions, questions, questions and of course we said yes to "everything" and indeed "everything" came along on our trip. From that moment we anticipated obsessive attention to detail, great food, a focus on pleasure. It really was with great anticipation and high expectations that we came here in May 2017. And so it indeed was... The Victoria met our expectations fully! The rooms are actually little semi-detached or terraced villas looking across lawns with fish ponds out to the ocean (there are some without ocean views and some with, our was booked 'without' and came 'with'). Each has a covered terrace with chairs out the front for you to relax in. The rooms themselves are sizeable and well furnished with exceptionally good and quiet air conditioning, there's a sort of 'walk in wardrobe' space to hang clothes and leave your cases (and a safe of course). The fourposter is large and comfortable. There's a CD/DVD player and some disks left in each room. The bathrooms are good (shower over bath in our case). There's plenty of complimentary water (not a little bottle each but four bottles mixed still & sparkling and regularly refreshed). The wifi is good and there's a TV but we didn't use it. Oh, I shouldn't even have to mention but they are of course spotless! The pool is as good as it looks (and it looks great). There's also a 'toddler' pool (of course it's a toddler's 'infinity' pool) right next to the large pool. The hotel has its own private beach with plenty of loungers, thatched shade roofs, umbrellas, and whether at the pool or the beach there's staff to make sure you have towels and drinks or lunch as and when you need it. Right next to the pool is a bar/snack bar (and it's more than a snack bar, you can have a real meal here, my wife was very happy with her 'bavette/gratin') and it's a good place to sit as night falls, on a lounger a stones throw from the water, looking out to sea. There's a spa here too, but we didn't use it. You'll have to check it out yourselves! Breakfast is very good, and having spotted 'Monsieur Claude' in reception, knowing he was still in charge of the hotel we were not at all surprised to find fresh baguettes, croissant, pain au raisin, pain au chocolat etc. all served, along with pain du siegle, brie etc. Many people think you can take it for granted in the former 'French' areas of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, that you'll find great French baking etc., but they're wrong, the French influence has waned to almost nothing, so rather than take if for granted we appreciate it when we find it. Of course there's fresh juices (fresh means made just for you) and all the usuals of a continental/european/american breakfast, including a cook station that does eggs just as you like them, bacon etc. That's also complemented by a great Asian cook station where you can have congee, pau, pho made to order, etc. Whilst it may seem a little weird at breakfast time I do recommend the iced vietnamese coffee over sweetened condensed milk, it's already warm at breakfast time and this is marvellous coffee for hot weather. You understand that this is seriously a place where breakfast 'sets you up for the day'. We had a buffet 'skewers barbecue' dinner by the pool one evening and it was truly excellent, plenty of 'cooking stations' whipping up local delicacies to order, much more than the promised 'skewers barbecue', rather a pretty comprehensive vietnamese dinner to order. The hotel is a short ride out of town (all the beach hotels are) but they operate a regular shuttle bus (free) that is air-conditioned and drops and collects you right right in the middle of Hoi An town. One evening coming back the shuttle bus didn't show on time and I called the hotel who told me "it's delayed, but don't hang around, just get a taxi home and we'll pay for it". That's fair enough indeed, but what was particularly nice was that when we arrived in our taxi there was a security gentleman waiting at the hotel steps, briefed that we were coming, who asked "are you the couple who were waiting for the bus? I'm sorry, please don't hesitate, go straight in, we'll pay the driver directly". It's often how people sort out any little glitches that gives you a good indication of how much they care, and the Victoria didn't disappoint here either. The hotel has a little relaxed 'lounge bar' behind the reception and also a 'sports bar' but frankly we just asked ourselves "why would we visit those when we can sit out under the stars in front of the ocean?" I guess they come into their own when it rains. But it's worth knowing that in the 'lounge bar' there's a selection of books in several languages f you need to borrow some reading material. If you want to add a little extra 'experience' to your stay in Hoi An the Victoria can also shuttle you in and out of town in their vintage motorcycle & side cars or in a boat direct to the old town waterfront, but that's chargeable whereas the shuttle bus is free. On our last day we had an evening flight and a late afternoon transfer to the airport so we would normally need to vacate the room sometime before leaving with a 'normal' check out. The front desk told us not to worry, of course all the hotel facilities are available all day, but also there's a room at the spa for showering and changing for those people who have had to check out but still use the pool or beach. That's a nice touch. An even nicer touch was when on our departure morning the front desk called us just before we went to breakfast and told us not to hurry/worry, we could keep the room 'til 15h00. I must mention that all the staff without exception are charming, friendly and helpful, without which 'luxury' never works. 'Bravo' to all of them. It's not the cheapest hotel and the meals and drinks and so on aren't cheap by local standards, but it simply isn't a cheap hotel, it's a luxury hotel, that's why we chose it, and by international luxury hotel standards the prices are really very reasonable, you wouldn't hesitate 'at home', so just enjoy it and appreciate the luxury.

"A time to chill "

   20-05-2017
Having rated the Reverie five stars we had to come back to four for Victoria. It's a lovely place to see Hoi An from with shuttles to and from the township regularly provided. Storage is low but we received an upgrade when requested which greatly improved things. The pool is well maintained and each guest is well cared for - the breeze from the ocean particularly welcome in the morning heat. Good food but there are many other options within easy distance - complimentary bikes make for good fun.

"Nice Hotel"

   20-05-2017
We ended a 2 week trip to Vietnam with 4 nights at the Victoria and it was a great end to a memorable trip. The rooms are very spacious and well laid out. The staff are extremely kind and courteous and really make an effort. The pool was so relaxing and the beach offered boogie boards and boats if you were more adventurous. The hotel is around 15 minutes from town but offer a shuttle service which was convenient. It is also nice being able to leave the town if you want the peace and quiet of the hotel. It was so nice it was tough to leave to go to the town. I thoroughly recommend the hotel for couples or family as it offers everything.

"Great place to stay"

This hotel is situated on the beach outside of the ancient town a short 10 minute shuttle bus ride. This is a fantastic hotel with exceptional rooms, great restaurant, garden and pool areas. All staff from reception, housekeeping, restaurant, bar and pool areas are this hotels greatest assets. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who were extremely kind and helpful at all times. We loved the guys who looked after guests around the pool.

"Fantastic beach holiday"
