"Give it a miss"
First thoughts were this is a nice average hotel good for a couple of nights, and for the price, couldn't complain. Then it got worse... We arrived early and we had to sit through a sales pitch from the receptionist as our room 'wasn't ready'. (Just what you need when you've been on a bus all night and haven't had any sleep.) We did eventually check-in a little early and our first twin room for 2 nights was really lovely. Clean bathroom, good air con and firm beds. The next morning the downfalls of this hotel started to appear. I was awoken by house keeping being very loud with no regard for the guests. So I went up to breakfast. The breakfast itself is sparse and seemingly isn't replenished. This first morning the breakfast staff were so busy running around, shouting and joking with each other they didn't even notice me, let alone ask for a room number. I could have been anyone off the street getting a free breakfast! The next day we went on a trip to Halong Bay and left our bags at the hotel. Upon arriving back 2 days later we were put in a double room (when requesting a twin) and the bathroom was awful. The bath leaked when you had a shower which flooded half the bathroom floor, and left the bath mat sodden all the way through. We wanted to stay an extra night as we changed our plans, and I found a room cheaper online than I had been quoted by the receptionist. When I went to the desk the next day to inform them, the receptionist was very rude because we hadn't booked through him. The attitude I was given was appalling and I had never felt so uncomfortable at a hotel. At this point I should have cancelled the 2 nights we had just booked after our Sapa trip. Out of convenience (and hoping we would get a nice room like our first stay) we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Bad decision. We arrived in the early hours of the morning off the sleeper train and waited in the lobby. We went out for breakfast and came back at 12.30pm to try our luck at an early check in, only to be told they 'had some broken rooms' (?!) and we would be taken over to another hotel as there wasn't a room for us. We had literally been sat there HOURS in the morning and no one had said anything. The hotel over the road was less than inadequate (a 1* hotel when we had paid for a 3*) We moved rooms twice and we looked online to discover that it was half the price we had already paid for. Leaving us at a £20 loss and in a room with hair on the pillows, stains on the walls, dirty carpets and some very unsavoury activities, making us feel even more uneasy and disgusted. The next day when we were moved back over to Anise for our last night. We tried to explain that we should be reimbursed the price difference between the 2 hotels but we're just told that is how much they paid as every where was fully booked due to a storm at Halong bay. I know this to be untrue as I called round other hotels of a similar price range and they had rooms available. I however, could not justify paying more money for another hotel, and why should I when I had paid for this one. We did get a complementary set menu dinner in the charmless restaurant. I can't help feeling we were not valued as guests. The level of service really lets the place down. Not a pleasant way to end an otherwise wonderful month in Vietnam!
"Nice and Friendly but not excellent "
Hotel is clean and tidy and staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities are ok. Shower got cold quickly. Our friends room's bath was leaking but nothing was done about it and their conditioning wasn't working properly either. Issue not resolve in the 3 nights we stayed. Breakfast was melons choice of 2 cereal, bacon eggs beans rice noodles salad. I loved the coffee. Choice of 2 juices treat and coffee. Good hotel for short stay.
Only stopped here to 'freshen up' Glad as could not have used anymore than a few hours. Alright if you just want somewhere to shower and lay head but want to experience 'real life' Although give them credit clean and tidy. Room had no window only air con - so if it didn't work you are a bit stuffed. There is a hairdryer but not a lot else. TV has to be paid for - well I think that is what it said as my Vietnamese not too good. Only 1 lift bearing in mind it caters for over 11 floors. Wine expensive and not served by glass But cheerful for a few hours
"3 days in Hanoi"
This hotel was chosen for us by Trailfinders in Newcastle and proved to be a good choice. Whilst not luxurious, it was clean, comfortable, and well located for major sights. We only ate breakfast here, which was satisfying and provided lots of choice, but there was also a restaurant and snack bar if you wanted to use them. Staff were friendly, spoke good English and couldn't be more helpful - we had trouble with our plug adaptor and they were able to find us a replacement for a 3 pin British plug within minutes. They also helped sort out a problem with a trip we had arranged. Thank you very much! We would recommend this hotel to anyone venturing to Vietnam for the first time.
"nice for a few nights, big difference between the rooms"
this was a really average hotel, with big differences between the rooms; we were in a small room at first and during our second stay we had a larger and cleaner room with less dust (we are allergic to dust). The airconditioning is really dusty, noisy and kept us up at night; during our last night, we were lucky we needed to get up at 5.30 since children were noisily screaming in the stairs and in the hall; we had no place to sit for breakfast since the place was crowded with vietnamese people. They made us a ordinary take away breakfast. Breakfast is fine here but that experience was not! Lobby moderately friendly.
