Over Sunway Hotel Hanoi

A supposedly well rated hotel, although we turned up in the evening and were told that we had to take a smoking room as there were no other non-smoking available and then when we pushed further the chap on reception said that they had 3 non-smoking rooms reserved for a group of smokers, but sometimes they like a fresh room to smoke in! Generally the food wasn't great for vegetarians, especially given the price compared to other local options. They also tried to sell us a tour for triple the amount it was available outside for exactly the same tour! On the plus side, the location is not too far out and the rooms are a good size.
"Decent hotel in Frech Quarter"
This was the last hotel on our tour throughout SE Asia. As with many hotels of this level, 3-4 stars, the lobby and staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are functional and the wifi was good although a little slow. It was clean. Bathroom was a little dated. Maintenance appears to be a bit of problem as the closet door was off its track toilet was leaking. It still was not fixed the next day and closet door while on its track, is stiff and difficult to slide. The location is located on a street, as typical of most streets here, is a mix of modern and dilapated buildings . While it is not terribly far to walk to the old quarter where there are more restaurants, it is a trial to walk anywhere here and seems longer as some places have no sidewalks and then you have to deal with crossing streets where there are no rules for cars and motorcycles and lots of traffic.
"Nice hotel, good location"
Stayed at this hotel for a night while visiting Hanoi with friends. Though the building right opposite to the hotel looks deserted, the Sunway Hotel itself is great. The reception is friendly and efficient, the lobby nice and spacious. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Decent wifi. The mornings breakfast is standard, though nothing to complain about. The hotel is quite close to the lake which is where the action is. It's a great area to stroll around and see people enjoy themselves. Lots of activity and no one bothers you there. It's also perfectly safe. Essentially therefore, the hotel is well worth the money.
Rooms are fine but a little rundown. Our toilet leaked on the floor from the water inlet. Nice long happy "hour" every day. Great breakfast. Good service from friendly staff. This sentence enables me to get 200 words.
"Tricky Wifi Log-In Procedure for Apple Devices"
Just like Hannah_Louise 1885, this was the last hotel on our 15 night tour. Our group arrived at 5:30 pm after a long bus ride from Halong Bay. The first thing we did was inundate the poor young lady at the Reception Desk because the people with Apple devices had trouble signing in to the wifi. Th lobby is welcoming and the staff were very friendly overall. We would like to especially thank Ginny who called our Tour Guide for details on the Puppet Show meeting time and location after we had missed the group's departure the following morning. She marked the address on the map for us and wrote down the necessary phone numbers. Our room was situated on the 10th floor. It was near the end of the hallway and did not have much of a view which made it relatively quiet. There was plenty of lighting in the room which contained many electric outlets. The large in-room safe is in a convenient location and uses a 6-digit code. The bathroom has a large shower stall and single sink with little counter space. The water heated quickly and the pressure in the shower is good. The bath towels are thick and fluffy but may be too heavy for the towel rack which is situated above the toilet. The towel rack fell apart twice. We put it back together the first day, but on the second day we just left the parts on the sink so that the Housekeeping and Room Maintenance departments would know that there was a problem. When we returned to the room, the towel rack was repaired. The breakfast buffet selection was good. We especially liked the egg omelet and pho stations. The mini bread rolls were the best we had in Vietnam after they were lightly toasted. There was a "toaster problem" the first morning when rolls got stuck on the conveyor belt and would be burnt. One of the servers noticed the problem and fixed it immediately. There is a small grocery stand to the right when facing the hotel entrance. Guests can purchase snacks, drinks and additional water if the two bottles supplied in the room every evening is insufficient. The hotel is situated in a busy, slightly run down area. Walking around at night requires extra vigilance because the sidewalks are often uneven and the streetlights are dim. The sidewalks are clogged with parked scooters or makeshift "restaurants" which is the case for most of Hanoi. It was not too much of a problem for us. Overall, it was a nice end to our vacation.
