Great little hotel in the heart of San Jose Theater district. Walking distance to Jade museum,National Theater, National Museum, Market and more. Hotel room was plain but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and so was the food at the restaurant. Would definitely go there again. We stayed one week with rental car. Driving was crazy and traffic in and out of the city and around the island was draining, that's why I would split up my stay between different hotels next time, so I could see more of the islands major attractions.
"A centrally located boutique hotel with too much noise from the passing trains in the night"
This hotel would be a gem among otherwise overpriced or not very personal hotels in the quite expensive capial of Costa Rica, were there not one problem: It is right next to a railroad track. Now you may ask: what's the problem? Well, these idiotic train drivers toot their horn all the time, right into the night, and starting early in the morning. Right next to the hotel. Sleep? Not. Earplugs? Maybe - but what if you have booked some excursion or made an appointment for early in the morning and want to be woken up by an alarm or a wake-up-call? The trains are going to wake you up instead! The windows are not noise-proof, not weather-proof nor water-proof nor anything-proof, so you will be awakened early in the morning by the trains. Modern windows would solve the problem to some extent---the walls are not super noise-proof either. So, in conclusion: If you want a centrally located and OK hotel when you do not have to get up early and can use earplugs, this is your choice. Otherwise, stay somewhere else!
"Budget-friendly hotel with style"
We stayed at Hotel Fleur de Lys for one night prior to departing for home after several days in Costa Rica. While a little worn around the edges, the hotel is full of charm and character. Our room was clean & comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was good. The staff was friendly and accommodating, especially the front desk manager, who was very helpful with suggestions for places to eat and things to see during our short stay in San Jose. I would definitely recommend this hotel for stop-overs in San Jose.
"Victorian sanctuary in downtown!"
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Your hotel was beautifully done, the food was delicious and the downtown location could not have been easier/closer to major attractions and shopping. The staff was available, courteous, helpful and the atmosphere was so welcoming. A word to the sensitive traveler - bring earplugs for the train that runs at night. It definitely woke us, but this location is worth the immediate town access!
"Mixed feeling, but no sleep..."
There is much to love about this hotel. Jason, who greeted me when I entered, was extremely delightful and welcoming. The interior and balcony is gorgeous. It's a large hotel. I was so happy to be there. The location is really great too. Unfortunaely, I have to dock points, because it was the most uncomfortable bed I have slept in in any hotel in the world. I think it would have been better to sleep on the floor. Also, the toilet was very bad, among the worst I experienced in the country. Bathroom was maybe 75% clean. Finally, in the room I was in there was extreme noise very late at night. I didn't have this experience elsewhere. The breakfast was big, but not tasty :( I had a great first impression, but without a night's sleep, I'd pay more to go elsewhere.
