Over Haina Kalahari Lodge

Vanuit Maun bezoekt u Kalahari Desert.
"Wonderful campsite in the bush"
Our group of 2x families camped here for 4 nights. The camp area is very big and spacious, with no fences. Three of the four nights, it was only our group in the camp site. There is 3x bush showers with cold water (you can connect your own gas bottle for hot water) and 3x toilets. The hot water system with the gas bottle did not work 100%, but that did not bother us. As Haina Lodge is not very big with little accommodation, it almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We saw a very interesting lion kill. Tanya, the host, was very friendly and helpful. The whole booking process was handled very professional. This could have been the ultimate camp site, but sadly there were two negatives. From the four nights we camped here, the bathrooms were never cleaned (not even after the big group of almost 20 people) and the dustbin was never emptied. Maybe that was why there were so many mice each night.
Haina is a proper African Eden. Harsh, pristine, unsullied and utterly remote, it is the world 19th century pioneers wrote of in the kind of romantic prose that sparked a longing in the hearts of urban dwellers world wide. The reserve stretches in all its glory for 11000ha, an area too vast to contemplate from the ground. From 5000ft in a small plane though one gets some sense of the eye watering endlessness. The dusty airstrip is a few kilometers from the lodge - and therein lies a tale of luxury and pampering. An added bonus is that he waterhole - a few dozen meters from where I sat on a couch, brought kudu and impala during the day. At night while sitting at a 4m long table eating dinner (another mind bending experience) a pride of lion came for their aperitif. The Haina lodge is a mix of edgy architecture and old-style colonial elegance. The tents are luxurious yet private enough to require being driven to at night: lion and other creatures of the night have full right of way and residence. We drove in open vehicles during the day to see game, antelope, an elusive wild cat, jackals and a vast array of birds from vultures picking at the remains of a kill to startlingly bright bush shrike and everything in between. We watched the sun set drinking fine wine and eating canapés, listening to the day sounds give way to the creatures of the night. The final throws of the bushmen culture were briefly brought to life in a display by some of the last of the people. It is an education of the art of survival in a perfect world.
we cant thank Neil and Tanya enough for this fantastic experience, even thou we were the only 2 guests their because it is off peak, the treatment they gave us would have been the same if their had 20 off us. lovely friendly people .They really go to the extra lengths to accommodate their guests. hearing lions roar while you are having your breakfast to rush off to find them and come back to a new fresh breakfast .Absolutely fantastic experience
"Very friendly and beautiful"

"Great location, amazing service"
My husband and I stayed here in february for our honeymoon. We were the only Guests at the time and boy did they treat us like royalty. We went during the wet season and honestly, there wasn't a lot of game on the reserve. However, the manager (I'm so sorry, I have forgotten her name at this point) really tailored the program to us. The first day my husband and I were lounging in the general area. I heard lions roar in the distance. We told the manager, and she immediately prepped a truck to see if we could find them. WE DID! We then spend the next few days tracking these lions. Once, we heard the pair calling each other during dinner. The manager rushed out, said "Want to go find them?" and we literally jumped out of our chairs into the truck while the servers put the food on hot plates in the oven. The food was great (especially for being so far in the middle of nowhere). Our room was wonderful too. Our shower had a open glass area so you could look out. The manager told us that during the dry season animals will often come to look at the tent, drawn by the water. Not everything went well on our honeymoon but this lodge absolutely helped turn out trip around. I cannot recommend it highly enough. My family is hoping to stay there later next year!
