Stayed here for 11 nights and we just loved it! Peaceful "old school" hotel with super staff. From welcoming to check-out everything went smoothly. Stayed in a Karibu class bungalow right by the pool. The room was clean and nice. We had full board and the food was very nice with variation from Kenyan and Italian buffet to a la carte dining. Lovely spa (had massage). We took snorkeling tour from hotel and it was fantastic. Everyone from the staff was smiling and helping us with what ever we needed. The beach down from the hotel is lovely but there is quite a lot "businessmen" so you need to be firm with them. Thank you, we are coming back !

"Another Visit"

Again Severin and it's staff did not fail to disappoint me. The staff were their usual welcoming, helpful and friendly selves - a few new faces on the team. The room was clean and everything worked fine for me. Housekeeping was done everyday - I had clean towels, water and the room was nice and tidy when I returned from a long hot days work. Both pools are clean and wonderful. The food was perfectly fine for me and all in all I had no complaints.

"Avoid Hotel"

I would have rather stayed in a hostel than this hotel- at least I would receive friendly service. Upon checking in, the staff were pleasant. However, once in our room we noticed several things. The furnishings are old and in poor condition. I understand many Africa hotels have dated furnishings but they are usually taken care of and are in nicer conditions. The bed was so old and uncomfortable I would have rather slept on the floor- you could feel every spring in your back. We were provided with only 1 towel on first day (not full set even after I requested). There was not a hair dryer in the room as advertised or bathrobes. It was advertised with a rain shower- which was a very old regular $1.99 shower head than spat water in small strong streams that hurt like being hit with pins/needles yet not strong enough to really have a good rise. Not to mention no hot water (luke warm a few times at best). The only positive was the food (ate 1 breakfast and 1 dinner). The selection was nice and it was pretty good considering it was included. The service though was slow and found it odd that we were told they ran out of Coke. I think the waiter was trying to get me to order a drink like my husband to spend more money. Also, it was advertised as having several bars and restaurants but it appeared several were closed. The pool table was broken as well. When i had made any requests at the desk- I was treated very rudely. First, it was with the towels. Next it was asking to return pool towels- because the no one was in sight to do so. What really upset me was the laundry. When we arrived we wanted to do laundry so we immediately brought it to the front desk. They indicated we should use bag/form in the room- but I explained this was not provided. I was told it was my fault for losing these items and they would not provide it to me. Then I was told to wait and housekeeping would bring it immediately- as I indicated we had dinner reservations. After waiting 20 minutes we had to go and I decided to bring it in the morning- as the book in our room indicated we could drop off before 10 am for same day service. However, I was told that this was not the policy as indicated on the form- the one we never got! They again blamed me for not waiting around long enough to get the form and refused to help in any way- other than paying double for rush service. I'll give this place 2 stars because of the decent pool and food. In addition, compared to some of the other very run down places- the actual accommodation isn't that bad but I would expect much more for the price. The service and comfort bring this one way down.

"Good, eventually"

If this review was done on first impressions it wouldn't get any stars. We arrived at an empty reception yet it still took over half an hour to check us in. After check in we we had two porters to show us to our rooms. What a laughable experience! They had absolutely no idea where they were going and eventually after a small rant we managed to guide them in the right direction. Once in the rooms we discovered a lack of towels, pillowcases, water and a functioning aircon controller and it took over an hour to be rectified. All of this after a very long day on the road and a hideous trip from the airport made it a pretty poor start. Our first morning dawned and after a relaxing lie in we found the dining room and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. The food throughout our 3 day stay was excellent with a varied selection all cooked and presented to a high standard. Our waiter, Franklin was very helpful and attentive at every meal. The beach is lovely and the traders that hover just off hotel grounds were quite entertaining. Various goods and services were offered but I felt that they didn't push too hard and left you alone once they realised you weren't buying. It may have different if you were female though. We did buy some fruit from a lovely lady called Elizabeth who came back the next day with a different selection for us which she peeled ready for us to eat. Mangoes, bananas, pineapple and coconut, all of which were lovely. Both pools were clean and warm and the facilities generally were of a high standard. The evening entertainment was lively and fun. An acrobatic troupe on one night and Masai dancers on another. The rooms were reasonably basic but once we'd played the housekeeping lottery every day we found them to be fine. (Comparing who had what in each room after housekeeping had finished was quite amusing!) Overall we enjoyed our stay and if a beach and pool type hotel is what you're after then Severin Sea Lodge should fit the bill.

Value for money. At an amazing place. Nice staff and perfect rooms. The kitchen and the food is wonderful. It's the best at Bamburi beach. 2 nice pools and a great bar. The beach direct ro the compound is sugar white. The ocean is warm and save. A place you have to visit.
