"Great place for a family"
My family of four stayed here November 2016 (kids are 15 and 21). It was perfect because there is a nice little loft with a third bed, so the "kids" didn't have to share. The beds were fairly comfortable, and the grounds are beautiful. There are no air conditioners in the rooms, but there are fans. We were there when a hurricane was coming in, so it was cool enough (lucky us, lol). Breakfast was good. It was about a 20 minute walk into the main part of town, and cab ride was about 5 bucks. Overall, a very charming place to stay.
"Cute, needs maintenance "
I expect a few insects staying in a jungle bungalow, but this was worse than tent camping. Our unit had several large holes in the screens, there weren't any screens at all behind the bench in the shower, and there were a few sections a missing screens, resulting in getting eaten up nightly by mosquitos, even when using the mosquito netting. We picked fleas )or ticks?) out of the sheets a few times, and we had to capture a BAT at 5 am one morning. With better maintenance, this could have been avoided. No AC, but ceiling fans and a pedestal fan were more than enough to stay cool. Loved hearing the sounds around us at night and in the mornings. The location is good; a couple miles south of Puerto Viejo, along pretty Playa Cocles, and a little set back from the main road. The property itself was pretty, peaceful, and given the small size, it never felt crowded. Daily breakfast was very good. The restaurant was a little expensive; 2 coffees one afternoon cost the equivalent of $8USD. Our lunch was over $30USD (2 entrees and a small appetizer). The restaurant along the main road adjacent to the property was excellent (El Sol De Caribe). Wifi was good most of the time, but we weren't on it much other than the evening for a few minutes. Other than the bugs and the bat, we had a nice time, but I'll stay elsewhere next time.
A lovely place to stay from which to explore the town and surrounding area. The bungalows are full of character and the bathroom feels like you are showering outside as you are close to the wildlife! The staff are friendly and helpful and arranged a boxed breakfast for us when we had an early checkout.
"Perfect retreat on the Caribbean "
This spectacular oasis was all that was advertised. Very clean, spacious bungalow. All the staff were very polite, accommodating, and helpful with any needs that arose. The restaurant had excellent food, with a great breakfast that is included in your nightly rate. The dinner was a bit pricey, as it was in USD, and more than the going rates for entrees in and around town. If you are wanting to visit the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, but still want some quiet time, this is a must-stay.
"Beautiful and Peaceful"
We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. One of the best accommodations we had during our time in Costa Rica. The room was clean and functional. Waking up to the sounds of animals (monkeys and birds) in the morning was really cool. The pool is nice and the "hotel" is right across from a very large beach. The breakfast included with your stay is wonderful (we had fruit, toast and juice and then got to choose what hot items we had each morning with it (not buffet-style though)). We had dinner one night as well; it was expensive but the food was very good. Very friendly staff!
