"excellent alternative to the other cheap hotels"

this hotel, suprised and amazed me.as i have been coming to costa rica for 25 years.this hotel is the cleanest, most modern, well kept.best location.and most secure.not to mention one of the most economical.in san jose today.supermarket shopping within a block.great food across the street....disadvantages.the train track.loud noise,at any time.

"Good start"

Fleur de Lys is a good hotel to start your round trip in Costa Rica. It is very close to the city center (5 min walk). The hotel has a nice atmosphere and are very nice decorated with a lot of wood. Our room was very spacious with even a whirlpool. Breakfast is in buffet style and has the typical Costa Rica choices. Staff is very friendly. Second time we started a round trip here and our logical choice if we would visit Costa Rica again. Only remark: close to the hotel is a railroad and trains start running early and that is somewhat noisy. Coming from Europe our internal clock resulted in early wake up anyway so we didn't mind.

"Noisy and room smelt"

Ok I was repeatedly warned on check in my room was noisy and offered ear plugs. The room was stuffy, hot and smelt bad. The trains passed by in the evening and constantly tooted - lucky I only stayed 2 nights and checked out 4.30am. The lady who checked me in was very bossy / told me my god daughter could only stay 15 mins in the room- not 20 mins as they will check. To be fair she was nicer the next day and helped with directions but she found it hard to crack a smile. There is no towel rail in bathroom - there are 2 holes - they put the towels on top of the toilet. The management must fix the frayed stair carpet / this is a trip hazard and dangerous. Holes in the main drapes - Bromeliad room

"Furious and disappointed "

Pros: 1. breakfast was ok, and the lady who manned it was smiling. 2. Central location. Cons: where shall I start. 1. Unfriendly person called Daniel at the front desk upon arrival. He made us feel unwelcome from the outset. Gave us a very smelly room. I went back and said there must be something you can do. He changed us to a slightly acceptable one. 2. We emailed the hotel before arrival to enquire about car parking availability and the answer was yes. We arrived 4 pm one day. Turned out the car park was a nearby public one and the hotel gives a ticket so customers can park for free. Next day checked out at 10 am. Left our things in the storage and the car in the car park since no one told us at any point that we shouldn’t. We came back at 5 to collect the car and was asked to pay 5000. Went back to the hotel and spoke to Daniel and the hotel manager to explain that we shouldn’t pay. The answer was; 1. These are the rules. When you check out take your car with you or pay for the car park. A rule which we were not informed about by email or in person. 2. Daniel told my daughter that she needs to change her attitude! 3. The manager who I spoke to over the phone told me he will get the police!!!! Both my daughter and I are well travelled people. We have been around Costa Rica for 10 days and we were never faced with such hostile behaviour. I find it very difficult to believe that both Daniel and his boss work in the hotel business! All in all, if you are after unfriendly hostile reception staff and the possibility of being allocated a smelly room, then stay in this hotel otherwise DON’t. In fact my daughter reported the whole incident to booking. Com.

"very good location but old and noisy"

Small, older hotel on very good location in city centre. Gold museum, market etc. all in walking distance. Good restaurants in the area. We stayed here at the beginning and end of our holiday. But it is very noisy. The railway line is very close by and the trains are very load also at night. Breakfast is very mediocre. The room is spacious, but very old fashioned decorated. The beds creak. There is a fridge and coffeemaker in the room. Checkout time at 12. We could leave our luggage at the lobby until we were picked up for the airport.
