Our favorite

"Beautiful wedding at a beautiful hotel!"

   03-12-2016
We had our wedding at the Hotel Capitan Suizo in November and we could not be happier! A year before our wedding I began communicating with the hotel manager Diego who went above and beyond to accommodate us and our 44 wedding guests. We had our wedding catered by the hotel (we chose the bbq) and it greatly surpassed our expectations! All of our guests commented on what a beautiful and delicious dinner experience it was. The hotel itself is a little piece of paradise. They take great care to keep up the beauty of the grounds. It's like someone gently placed the hotel down in the garden of eden. It's right on the southern end of tamarindo beach so it's a more private and quiet but it's a short walk to restaurants and shopping. We stayed in room 75 which had an awesome view of the beach. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was always clean and seemed to be the perfect ph (never once smelt like chlorine). The restaurant is so delicious we ate dinner there several times during our 10 day stay and had breakfast there every morning. The list of pluses include ac worked great, no issues with bugs, nice big towels, hammock on our porch, 24 hr front desk, welcome drink, comfortable beds, always a seat available at the pool, great bartenders, surf and boogie boards to rent, beautiful birds & monkeys, ect. With all of the wonderful things about this hotel, none can top the incredible staff!! Within the first day they remembered our names and were so sweet and accommodating to all of our crazy wedding guests. Many of them even came up to us the day after the wedding to congratulate us. I felt so welcomed and comfortable that even after 10 days I hated to leave. The staff truly made it a wonderful experience for us! I could go on for days, but all in all do I recommend this hotel? 100% yes!! Will we go back? Without a doubt!! Pura vida! (I wish I had more pictures! I'll try and add some more later as I get them)

"A true gem"

   03-12-2016
My wife and I, along with our two children (11 and 9), stayed for a week at Capitan Suizo in late November. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately groomed. We stayed in one of the basic rooms but found it spacious and comfortable. And off our balcony, we had a view of the mini-jungle that is the garden. We had fun watching the birds in the morning and the howler monkeys in the late afternoon. The beach area is large and was not at all crowded. The water is great for swimming. Some waves, good for learning to surf, but nothing too rough for the kids. Plenty of beach chairs and trees if you're looking for some shade. We hit the beach every single day. The pool is larger than it looks in some of the photos. My kids only used it once as they preferred the beach. But they had the whole thing to themselves for a solid hour. The breakfast spread was impressive, and it's included with your room. They also serve lunch, snacks in the afternoon, and dinner. We ate there for dinner several nights and found the food to be quite good. It's a tad pricey but about what we expected. And the quality and the portion size didn't disappoint. We loved how it was just a short walk down the beach to town. We ate in several other restaurants for lunch and dinner. Taxis are readily available if you don't want to walk. Finally, the staff was outstanding. They were always accommodating but also gave you your space. Rosa at the concierge desk helped us choose some great excursions (zip-lining, boat tour, trip to see newly hatched turtles). Also, we happened to be there when Hurricane Otto was making landfall in Costa Rica. The staff kept guests apprised of the storm, but not in a way that created any sort of panic. One of the managers even went table-by-table through the restaurant to update us the night it was supposed to reach Tamarindo. Fortunately, Tamarindo was spared any significant weather. The storm forced us to cancel a trip to the north, so we ended up spending more time at Capitan Suizo than we expected. And that was just fine with us. This hotel is a true gem.

"Wonderful place to stay in Tamarindo if you want to be spoiled"

Beautiful landscaping and rooms. Friendly staff. Incredible breakfast included. Fun to have rainforest right there. Pretty beach. Surf is much smaller than river mouth, but walk to good surf is reasonable. Away from the hustle of the main beach at Tamarindo. Easy walk at night to dinner spots.

"The beachfront bungalow at Capitan Suizo was Heaven on Earth!"

The hotel staff were top notch, we looked forward to seeing their friendly faces every day welcoming us for breakfast and greeting us throughout the day..the hotel property was in the most amazing location tucked away on a nice cove of the beach/bay. We could surf right out in front! the gardens were so beautiful, it truly was a lush oasis. We loved seeing the monkeys in the trees, and the other wildlife on the hotel gardens. The view from our beachfront bungalow was just breathtaking..360 degree views of the beach and mountains. Our family will treasure this trip and the memories made at Capitan Suizo for years to come. We were there for my nephews wedding with 42 other guests..so glad the bride and groom chose Capitan Suizo.. We will be back for sure for some more serenity and beauty, for now i will keep these memories close in my mind!

"Hotel Capitan Suizo"

My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights in November 2016 in a superior room. Check in was quick and smooth and we were taken to a second floor room with a balcony overlooking the pretty gardens with the pool in the background. The room was spacious with comfortable bed and nice shower. Our room was cleaned every day to our satisfaction. The resort has direct beach access and they have very comfortable lounge chairs on the beach and beach towels are provided. We didn't eat at the restaurant because it was very overpriced. Drinks at the bar were very overpriced as well but I figured that this would be the case so I came prepared with liquor from the duty free airport shop and mixers and beer from the super 2001 which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Capitan Suizo is at the far end of Tamarindo beach so if you want to go out at night plan on a 15 minute walk to get to the action or 5 bucks for a cab. Please note that if you plan on walking during the wet season the first half mile of your walk is going to be on a road that gets quite muddy so bring shoes that you don't mind ruining. Overall this was a pleasant stay. Our last evening was spent watching hurricane Otto while enjoying beers on our covered balcony. The resort seemed to have much more staff on hand the evening that Otto hit. Thank you to all of these employees for being away from their families during this situation to make sure that the hotel guests were safe. Fortunately we made it through Otto unscathed. I will mention two things that I would classify more as a recommendation than a complaint. The hotel advertises free wifi. While there was wifi it didn't work consistently. Maybe a wifi upgrade could be considered in the near future. Secondly, while the included breakfast was quite tasty there was only one item that changed from day to day. Other than that one item, breakfast was the exact same every day. This gets a bit redundant after 7 days. Maybe consider changing up a few items every couple of days. Neither of these issues would make me not stay here again though. I'd definitely (and probably will) come back.
