"Great location!"

I have mixed feelings about this property. It’s in a great central location - right on the beach and close to town. It’s very easy to walk and pick up food, get specialty coffees, go shopping, and go for dinner in the evening. I felt like the staff was tired of tourists. Most interactions were luke warm. We had issues with our hot water in the shower early on in our stay, and it took 3 days for someone to look at it. They did try to fix it, but it remained a problem. Disappointing. Cleaning staff was very nice and did a nice job in our room. Pool towel system was odd - you have a ticket to get towels and you have to return the towels to get ticket back. If you don’t have your ticket at check out - you have to pay. I will say breakfast was quite good. There is a waffle station and made to order egg station. Lovely setting by the pool. We had a light dinner the first night on property - was just ok. We ate at the restaurant in front of the hotel the second night and wasn’t great. The kids did enjoy the tres leches cake there though. We eventually got our bearings and branched our into town. There are two pool areas for families. We didn’t realize at first that the pool across the street was for families too. It was by far the nicer of the two. Very tropical setting with a swim up bar. The pool has a sloped entry - great for small kids. Side note: iguanas lurking around but harmless. There’s also a tree near the parking lot with families of monkeys. Just down the street is a Mandarina juice / sandwich take out restaurant (they do have some outdoor seating) - and we would get smoothies and wraps to go to have by the pool at lunch. Easy! People do go to pool early to claim pool side seating. Lounge chairs on the beach are for rent. Two chairs and an umbrella cost $15 for entire day. Not a bad deal but strange since it’s right in front of hotel property. Chairs on the hotel lawn near beach are claimed early on in day for the whole day. We also took advantage of the surf lessons offered at the hotel. It was fun and they seemed concerned with safety. About $40 pp. Better to go in morning. I booked a sunset horseback ride for my kids through the hotel and was not as pleased. I was under the impression that the excursion left and returned to the beach. They take you to the departure point by car. The horses were a bit misbehaved and no helmets were provided. All in all a lovely property. We enjoyed our ocean view on the patio. You could still hear night time traffic on the other side from the Main Street - I just ended up using ear plugs. It wasn’t too bad. I would still recommend the hotel - even though there’s room for improvement.

"Tour desk"

We booked two tours through the hotel tour desk. Mera was awesome. She was so friendly and helpful and would greet us everyday when we walked by. We did an afternooning of ATVing and a morning of ziplining (the one with 11 cables) and were satisfied with both. The safety standards for the zipline were topnotch, which allayed my fears.

"Can't wait to go back!"

This was our first visit to Costa Rica. Our original vacation destination was Flamingo Beach, but our host works in Tamarindo and dropped us off to spend 1/2 day in this beautiful little beach town. I can tell you, 1/2 day was NOT enough! We fell in love! We extended our stay and checked into Hotel Tamarindo Diria for an additional 5 days. What a treat! We were given the keys to our room and we went up, but there was some confusion with the room and the room we had been given was occupied. This actually worked out to our advantage. We went back to reception and the young woman was very apologetic and kind. She gave us keys to the new room and we were so happy! This room was third floor, north side, amazing, unobstructed ocean view. THIS is why we picked this location, that view. The sunsets, the ocean, the stunning electrical storms at night. Our visit was almost one year ago, I should have reviewed it at the time, but our upcoming trip has me so excited, I wanted to share our past experience. The rooms are somewhat dated, but I was overall happy with our accommodations. We do like to sleep in a cold room, but this A/C seemed to be struggling a bit to keep the room as cool as we like it. One other factor, street noise. Your front door is directly above the main street in Tamarindo. Parties, loud cars, music, etc. were definitely an issue, some nights more than others. Bring a sound machine and ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. We are both light sleepers, but we managed. THAT OCEAN VIEW! I can overlook a lot of things, with a view like that. Housekeeping did a great job, the room was always clean and re-stocked with in room coffee and amenities. I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. One day we had an early excursion booked, the front desk asked if we had ordered a to go meal, which we didn't know was an option. She said, be sure if you leave early again, to let us know and we will have a light snack prepared to take. The breakfast buffet is so yummy, so many great food options for every taste. I looked forward to breakfast and Costa Rican Coffee, every single day. I am excited, right now, just thinking about our return. The people in this town are so friendly and happy. There is great food, great options. If you feel adventurous, make sure you look for the woman out front of the hotel, who serves food out of the trunk of her car. I am a trunk food fanatic, some of the best food I've ever eaten, has been homemade and served out of the trunk of a car. For $5, pick up a couple extra to go boxes and deliver them to the really nice guys out front of the hotel, who offer surfing lessons. Get involved with the locals, the Ticos are wonderful people and they love to talk about their country. Grab a massage on the beach and go for a walk. Be sure to look for the sand striations on the beach as the water goes out, natures showing off her art work. I love this town, this beach, this hotel, these people. Be kind and they will reciprocate. It is, what it is. It becomes what you make it. Make it great. Pack your chill, bring your positivity and enjoy! Overlook the things you can't change, fix the things you can and recognize the difference. I have never met a stranger and I always have a good time, no matter what the situation.

"Much left to be desired"

I'm not one that is picky or high maintenance, but this resort really was not 5 star or even 4 star is some places. Pros: the breakfast, the grounds, the pools and bars, Nari Pizza, bartenders, location, safe Cons: the rooms are small, the beds are so so so stiff, like sleeping on rocks, there is a bad sewage smell at certain times, they majority of the staff is rude, stains on the room linens, and god forbid you sit on the lawn chairs that are on the beach

"Pura Vida!"

We stayed in the condos which were beautiful. This is a very nice resort, but the highlight was the pool bartender Luis. He was joyful, fun and took great interest in everyone. He not only was kind to our teenage crew (totaling anywhere from 3-8 each day) but he truly enjoyed them and made their experience so memorable. His great sense of humor (and music) was the highlight of the Diria for all of them.
