"A very peaceful place"
We recently spent 3 nights at Didima Camp. I am a keen photographer so enjoyed the vistas and birdlife. The camp is very nice but in need of some TLC. Parts of it are starting to look a bit tired. I do not think that much maintenance has been done since we were there 8 years ago. The linen on the beds was in good condition but if you are planning to self cater there was not one sharp knife in the kitchen. The food in the restaurant was ok but nothing special. Personally I would love it if they had fresh milk rather than long life for breakfast tea and coffee. The Cathedral Peak Hotel right next door manages that so I do not see why the restaurant at Didima cannot.
"Not to be missed!"
Friendly staff, well-kept facilities, neat accommodation in the most beautiful setting, extraordinary architecture and the most breathtaking views (even from the chalets). Didima’s facilities include world renowned hiking trails (hiking distance ranging from a few hours to a few days), swimming pool, tennis courts and a San rock art center. Entrance to the San rock art center is free when you stay at Didima and is a definite must-see! The Cathedral Peak hotel just a few kilometers away also has quad biking, archery, helicopter flips, a golf course and putt-putt available.
Stayed in chalet 37, wonderful views to the high Drakensberg .Fridge, stove top and microwave in the kitchen but no containers to use in the microwave. Weber braai available to share between units. Great walks from the camp and a few Km's away, Breakfast served daily in the dinning room was tasty and staff friendly, didn't have any other meals there. Swimming pool and tennis courts and rock art interpretation facility We'd go back
"Well worth a visit"
This is a visually impressive camp in a spectacular setting with a unique design set on the side of the valley. Our chalet (27A) afforded us a superb view of the Berg in general and Cathedral Peak in particular. As some other reviewers have noted, the camp needs some attention – we couldn’t use our safe (‘locked open’ and the key lost) and the interconnecting door to 27B couldn’t be securely locked; some of the kitchen cupboards desperately need replacing; the toaster didn’t work (but that was quickly replaced). Around the camp, there was litter and broken paving stones. However, it’s still worth visiting Didima. There are a number of good walks in the area that allow you to explore the stunning scenery. We did Rainbow Gorge and the Blue Pools, both memorable as is lying in bed with a cup of coffee watching the early morning light spread across the top of the Berg. 27A has self-catering facilities, but we did eat in the restaurant. Breakfasts were very acceptable and very filling, with a wide range of hot and cold dishes - try the Drakensberg Breakfast of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, tomato and trout. We ate one evening meal in the restaurant – 2 very large pepper steaks, “veggies†and 2 glasses of very drinkable House Merlot for R320. A final thought … on our previous visit the weather was cold and damp. This time it was very hot. I know air con. is out of the question, but any chance of a fan?
"Perfect location for hiking with a special view"
The Didima Camp was a perfect location for a few days hiking and relaxing. The “huts†were perfect located with beautiful views. The rooms are spacious, clean and the kitchen equipped with everything you need. We enjoyed our stay very much and could recommend this accommodation to everyone. The restaurant at the main reception building was good and prices are reasonable. We had breakfast (included in the room rate) and dinner several times and found everything tasty. The service was different depending on the staff in charge, but was all in all not bad. There is a little pool and 2 tennis courts within the camp. Rackets and balls could be rented for a small amount at the reception.
