"Bookend Cruise stays"

   17-01-2017
I chose Table Bay because our cruise was initially set to depart from the nearby dock and convenience was a big factor. Our cruise was changed and so we needed to do a bag transfer. This review is not reflective of the location change but does indicate our experiences. Check In: We had 2 rooms as we arrived at 2 different times. Room 317 was given the full tea etc check in at 4pm We we had 519 and arrived closer to 1am due to flight delays. No tea just the check in, CC handover etc. Stay 2: full experience but we arrived around 10am and were told to come back at 2pm as our room wasn't ready. No issue there but on returning at 1.55 we were told our room was in final check and to wait and they would let us know when the room was ready. By 2.20pm I then asked again. We went the only ones waiting on rooms, our room was ready..... Whilst waiting I asked to use the bathroom but was denied access to the guests only area as i could to produce a room key.....(this happened when we were checking out too) Rooms: Nice view over the water and we saw our ship come in. Clean and comfortable. Nothing out of the box for what IMHO is a factory experience. You are just another guest on your way through Food: Yeah, well wow.... they offer a record number of options but it is factory like and getting coffee if you dint want it as you sat down was a challenge. Omelette ws thick and rubbery and you needed to fight off the conference guests at the buffet. Breakfast experience meant i decided not to dine in at all. (Went to Signal at Cape Grace) Pool: Over run with kids and small considering number of guests Location: Great for the Shopping Mall but if it Hotel experience is important go to Cape Grace. Overall: I picked badly. I like boutique hotels and this is not in the class of the Cape Grace. Think Sheraton, Marriott, not SLHW.

"Wonderful hotel with sumptuous breakfast"

   17-01-2017
Really enjoyed our stay here which took in the New Year celebrations. The breakfast is the most stunning array that I have ever seen and one could order literally anything from the kitchen in addition to the buffet. The hotel had great facilities with nice hints of an historic past. It has a good feel about it. As a travel tip you may think about arriving with a half empty suitcase because, in addition to the wonderful mountain view right on your doorstep, there is a big shopping mall next door with a wide ranging retail offer. We were very happy to stay at Table Bay and, in particular, the staff were excellent without exception. It's THE place to stay. Many thanks.

"Good location, but not great value"

   17-01-2017
Stayed at the table bay for 7 nights in November, at quite a significant cost per night for a suite. The hotel is right where you want it to be, fantastic views, easy and safe to walk around the area in the night. The hotel is an impressive hotel with great history. The good points. Location is great Check in was smooth and efficient. Room was a good size, tastefully decorated. Restaurant for evening meals was good and well priced (staff were excellent and very attentive) High Tea was one of the best I have ever had. Some members of staff really did provide a 5 star service, especially at the restaurant (in the evening) and bar, really fantastic bunch The bad. Housekeeping was not up to scratch, sometimes amenities not replenished, so had to go out and purchase shower gel and shampoo so I could have a shower daily. Sometimes turn down service done well, sometimes not, one day we were disturbed getting ready for our evening meal as they wished to turn down at around 6pm? then completely skipped us even though we asked for them to come back later. Complained, had excellent service for the next day, but then it just fell back to 'normal' ways again. Breakfast service was poor, very difficult to order anything from the kitchen, certainly wasn't offered proactively. When asking for toast and butter, the toast would arrive well before any butter. The breakfast buffet has a really good choice but only if you can get into the main breakfast area. 4 out of the 7 days we needed to wait for a table, one day we were sent over to the restaurant, staff tried to send us back, I refused to play ping pong between who could seat us. Generally the breakfast staff just seemed sloppy in service and didn't seem to care. The cost of the hotel was approximately the same as a suite at a London Park Lane hotel, but the service just didn't match what you expect for a hotel in the price bracket and against other great hotels in Cape Town. Housekeeping and breakfast really did let down the hotel overall. The location really is the best in Cape Town, the hotel just needs to raise the service up to being the best in Cape Town, providing a really consistent and good service. I would say half the staff know how to provide this, the other half are the ones that are letting this hotel down.

"Older but Lovely"

   17-01-2017
Spent 5 nights at Table Bay and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are spacious and ours overlooked table mountain, which was lovely. It's not modern or new but it's well maintained. The location was also good - a mall is attached and attractions are nearby. Breakfast was included and was ample and diverse. The staff chatted with each other too much in my opinion during breakfast instead of offering to pour coffee or even if we needed anything, but they cleared tables promptly. I recommend this Hotel.

"Incredible hotel"

   16-01-2017
Everything about it was amazing. The rooms are beyond beautiful, the staff is more than lovely and accommodating, the breakfast is to die for, the restaurant offers very delicious food, the gym and pool were very nice and with excellent service. The concierge is more than helpful and hands on when it comes to arrange anything you want. Couldn't complain about anything even if I wanted to! Would definitely come back.
