"Nice hotel, undergoing major refurbishment"

Overnight trip for Simple Minds/B52s concert. All city accommodation really expensive. Found this hotel for $260. Turned up at 3 for a 2pm check in and told room wasn't ready. Not a biggie- went out for a late lunch. Returned at 4.30 and Manager met us???? Escorted us personally to room - 1st occupancy post refurbishment. Smallish but more than fit for purpose. Really nicely finished and a spectacular 2 head shower. No air conditioning- but we were advised beforehand with an apology. Also a reasonable fan supplied. This was a great room on the 7th floor - only one other room operational so really quiet as well. We stayed on a Tuesday night and didn't have the noise issues experience by other guests - though we were also pretty high. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The location at the bottom of Queen St is all that you would expect - great location and central to everything including multitudes of excellent, diverse restaurants/cafes and shops. No on-site parking. Would definitely go back for a similar room.

"Not so grand but more than adequate"

My partner wrote a review of this hotel after our first stay there on 1 February (but it was actually my words). That first night was a total disaster due to loud music from a club right next door until the early hours of the morning. That was room 3.10. However, the next day, they moved us to room 3.04 and threw in a free breakfast due to the previous day's disaster. That was a nice and very appreciated gesture. We moved to room 3.04 and there was no problem with noise at all. We then stayed another 2 nights on 10 and 11 Feb, and again no problem with noise. Management advised that the club next door has been shutdown but I didn't verify that. So the end result is a perfectly adequate stay. The hotel is a bit rundown but they are actively renovating it (which does create noise at some points). There is also no parking which was a pain but you can park about 8-10 minutes walk away for $27 per day. The location is terrific in terms of access to the ferry terminal and to Sky Tower. It's not the Ritz but I would stay there again if I didn't have a car.

"Adequate for our needs."

Stayed here as we were going to the Karaka horse sales . I was terrified after reading the noise reviews, however, we were at the Queen St end of the hotel and there was no noise. The location is just perfect. Rooms need renovating, but they are doing that . We paid very little, 50% off because of this, and it was therefore very reasonable.

"Handy location but noisy"

Located close to shops, cafes and waterfront. However also near clubs so bring ear plugs (I always have them anyway so didn't bother me). Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable but I don't think pushing two single beds together makes a king bed?? Clearly felt the gap in the middle of the bed. Few cracks in walls and obviously needs some work - I believe they are doing some rooms up as we heard construction work on lower levels. It was cheap compared to other over-priced hotels so would stay again if price was still significantly lower than other places. Would've also been nice to have a TV and couch in the lounge area (instead a single bed, but did have TV in bedroom). We're young, so overall weren't too disgruntled with the place :)

"Do not stay here if you want to sleep"

So, it's approaching 1am and I'm writing a review about the hotel I'm staying in - The "Grand" Windsor Hotel. That will tell you something about where this review is going. On the plus side - it's cheap, a great location and really good size rooms. BUT, and it's a really, really big but. The noise is so loud from the club RIGHT NEXT DOOR that there is no prospect of sleeping. This hotel is not fit for purpose. It is Wednesday evening and apparently the club closes "somewhere between 2 and 4am". How can they sell rooms without a noise warning? This is a known problem and I think it's disgraceful that there's no warning. Also, this hotel is not "Grand". It is very humble. I'm very OK with humble, but quiet humble. It is a CBD hotel so you expect some level of noise but not your own private DJ. Further warning - there is no parking here for your car. Silly me, should have checked. So we have had to park 7 minutes walk away and pay another $27 per day (make sure you include that in your price comparison). Lovely! If I could get their hopeless wifi to work well enough, I would spend the rest of the night looking for a hotel to move to for tomorrow night. Don't stay here whatever you do. This is the first review I have ever written but I just have to warn you. I guess it might be fine if you are on a different side. They tell me the hotel is fully booked so they can't move me. I'll have to move myself elsewhere. This is day 1 of my NZ holiday. A very disappointing beginning.
