"Some goods, some really bads"
Upon arrival was greeted by a very cold, unfriendly, unhelpful receptionist. When she had trouble looking for my booking under my name, she gave me such an attitude like it was my fault and pulled a really long sour face the entire time. When she found my supposed booking, she said the room was not ready. Since we were a group of 5 adults with many luggage and small bags, we decided to load back our goods into the car. But within minutes of doing so and when I called her out on her uncooperative attitude, miraculously there was a room ready! So we had to unload all the luggage again from the car! When we had questions about the room and payment, she answered all of our queries with a frown and just perpetually served us with an annoyed look. Hotel policy is that only one room key is provided per room - but our room was the two-bedroom premiere apartment meant for 5 adults so this is quite unreasonable. Our washer did not work, and we were offered to use a washer in another unit on a different floor - very inconvenient. Having said that, we need to commend two great staff, Aman and Rupert, who volunteered to handle our washing for us and were more than helpful with our extra bed. They delivered their service with utmost effort and sincerity, which we greatly appreciated after such a bad encounter at check-in. Aman and Rupert continued to offer us such great service throughout our stay. It became quite apparent that the hotel is under-staffed and despite this, their smiles never wavered. The two-bedroom premiere apartment itself was actually quite good. It was on a high floor with great views of the harbour and SkyCity tower. From photos, it looks much more spacious than the normal 2-bedroom apartment and is of a different configuration. Even with the extra bed set up next to window in the living room, there was ample room to move around for everyone. Kitchen was nice. The bathroom was quite spacious. Everything was clean and tidy. The living room plus both bedrooms have a balcony each. We liked the close proximity to downtown, although the setback was a very steep uphill climb back! The hotel has valet parking at $35/day where you call for your car 15 minutes before you intend to leave. If you want a basic, clean hotel close to the city and are fit enough for uphill climbs, this hotel is quite good. Just hope you are not checked in by the same staff as me!
I wasn't expecting much, based on recent reviews of this hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the hotel public areas, as well as our room. We were given an upgrade at check in to a two bedroom suite. We were pleased to have a full kitchen and washer/drier combo, as well as small balcony. The hotel is centrally located, across the street from the university, steps to two lovely parks, and walking distance to the waterfront area.
"Good location for city and Albert park- parking nightmare if you're not savvy"
This is more of an aparthotel and a lot of the rooms are owned by individuals who rent them out - ours was one such. There is a reception desk but if you rent direct via an owner then you shouldn't need to interact with them. There's a small restaurant next to the lifts and they do evening meal deals for $20 (meal plus drink) and breakfast at $18 which I consider expensive. So overall I can only comment on our room which was a studio (1316) and quite small but had all the basics you might need - we stayed for four nights and it was all getting a bit cramped towards the end. The small balcony had views across towards Devonport. The strange thing is that all rooms are different sizes and ours was one of the smallest when looking at the fire escape plan on the back of the door. The major negative is if you have a car as parking is expensive via hotel reception at I think around £35 per night or day. There's street meter parking which is free after 6pm until 8am and Sunday but you need to get parked up by around 5pm to be sure of a spot - you can pay past 6pm and it carries forward which is very helpful for a lay in next morning (2hrs @ $3 but goes up after that). Parking opposite on the clearway is free after 6pm but you'll need to move your car by 7am regardless of whether or not it's in a metered bay.
"Going to Auckland - Stay here"
Great location where you can walk to everything in the City Center. Quiet area near the college and parks. The room we had included a washer/dryer so we were able to do laundry before checking out. Friendly staff that helped with everything we needed.
"Helped in Emergency"
The reception staff were Extremely helpful after we had flown from U.K. & our alternative accommodation was a disaster, we stayed there three nights, the staff were brilliant and it was reasonably central to walk to the main Auckland Queen St. Rooms were spacious and clean, thank you Team Quadrant AUK !
