"A fantastic stay to explore Christchurch !!"
Stayed here for 2 nights after a gruelling flight from London. This hotel was perfect for what we wanted - a boutique style hotel with a tram running through the middle of it. Room 24 was lovely, seemed new and had 2 nights sleep in a really comfortable bed. Staff were very helpful and friendly, loved the fruit and coffee available free in reception, my gf used the massage service which was great. Breakfast was fantastic at the Coffee Lab - an agreement with the 2 businesses - I can recommend the Hash breakfast and the Chorizo Omlette personally along with the Lattes !! Thank you for a wonderful stay
"OK, but not fantastic.."
The first problem with the hotel was actually getting there. After spending a good 30 mins trying to navigate the plethora of roadworks and following a Sat Nav that was hell bent on a particular route, we gave up and rang the hotel to see the best way in (if it was even possible). A rather confused conversation later and we did eventually find what seemed to be the only possible route into the hotel. Parking isn't included and there's a $10 charge, - however, we found out afterwards that we could have parked the other side of the hotel for less - so worth checking what day / price before committing to the hotel 'car park' which is currently a patch of rough ground near to the hotel. On a more positive note, we were then helped to our room with our bags. A spacious room, although with absolutely no view (other than a wall almost close enough to touch). A good sized bathroom with large shower, free non-alcoholic mini bar (although don't get too excited at the single bottle of water and coke). There wasn't a restaurant in the hotel and breakfast consisted of the provisions provided in the room (cereals, milk and fruit). Christchurch itself is undergoing fairly major renovation following the recent earthquakes, so there's quite a a lot of works going on, and a lot of building sites, buildings that are sealed off, etc. It's great to see the city on the road to recovery, but there's still a fair way to go. The hotel is situated at 'Cathedral Junction' - so perfect for hopping on the trams around the city, and close to the ruins of the cathedral, a short walk from the Transitional cathedral and memorial to those lost in the earthquake and theatre, restaurants and bars. There's some room for improvement - yes, it's a city under reconstruction, but do what you can to encourage and help visitors by pointing out the fact that getting there might be harder than expected when they book, don't charge more for parking than they would pay if they just parked in a public car park (when you're offering nothing that would warrant an additional cost, like secure parking)
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel 115. It's a great location in the city centre. Our room (Queen standard) was really nice & modern & very clean. The bathroom also was modern & clean & the shower had great pressure. We would definitely stay here again.
"Lovely, comfortable. and relaxing stay!"
Travelling through NZ for an entire month was quite an undertaking. We were thrilled with our accommodation in downtown Christchurch, very conveniently located and close to great restaurants, museums, and places of interest. "Boutique" hotel can sometimes mean run-down, ratty, or in need of repair, but we were very happy that this was NOT the case at Hotel 115!! :) It was charming, perfectly clean, and we loved the book library and window reading nook on the second floor. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed Christchurch very much. Morning runs on the River Avon were a delight. The only complaint was that the shower floor was even with the rest of the bathroom area and we had to use extra towels to wipe up the excess shower water that pooled around the toilet and sink floor.
"Good location but otherwise unexceptional "
The hotel is attractive inside, with some quirky touches which is nice. Our room was very small, but didn't seem worth the upgrade of $50 a night for something just a little bigger. It was quite sufficient. The receptionist was very nice when we arrived, but we were disappointed when one of the first things she said, when we asked for second key card, was that if we were to lose it it would cost us $30. We've stayed in a lot of hotels all around the world and never been told a charge would apply to the loss of a little bit of plastic. Not that to date have we ever lost a little bit of plastic! But duly warned. The location is very good and I have no serious complaints however I think we would look elsewhere if staying in Christchurch again. I think the city has better to offer. And a wonderful city it is.
