"Beautiful View in a lovely room"
The room and everything in it were just gorgeous. Unfortunately there was a smell of damp and I am not sure if this was maybe being close to the water? I am not sure but that did spoil the stay a bit. I didn't raise the issue when we checked in as it was just for a night. I did talk with the receptionist the next day and she was so understanding and agreed to pass on my concerns to management. We ate in the bar which had very nice food and everyone staff member we encountered were so helpful. We would come back again without hesitation.
"It could be so much better"
Where to start? Initial impressions were great as the resort looks wonderful and it was a lovely sunny day. Things went bad when we approached reception ready to go to our rooms and found out our room was given to a couple who arrived a little earlier than us; we had to wait about an hour while our new room was being cleaned. Once we arrived in our room (2023) our initial thoughts were again impressed. But we noted (like the previous reviewer) that the garage door was open and the downstairs toilet was dodgy. Also the carpet was worn and the jets flew over the back balcony. Nonetheless we were still happy as all the necessary features were provided. As a suggestion to management though putting the glasses and crockery in the bottom right cupboard is not user friendly at all. Also the upstairs blinds in the shower/bath could do with some attention and perhaps some indication that there is a button on the wall to open and close one of them. Also the light at the top of the stairs to our room was out making it hard and unsafe at night. The golf course area looks lovely as do all the facilities but there isn't really much to do here and it's not really close to the city - a $50 cab fare. On our first night we booked dinner in the restaurant (we didn't know we could eat in the bar as no one mentioned it. The menu was quite limited and three of us opted for the steak and one the venison - which were all really very good Ne while we thought the price was high after we finished we were quite happy to pay the bill. As we stayed in a lake side villa we had quite a walk in the cold back to our unit - a cart or shuttle to and from our room would have been impressive and might even have been available but none made such an offer. So overall we were happy and had just a little bit more care, attention and communication been forthcoming we could have given a four or five.
"Few days away"
The suite was lovely. Clean, quiet, comfortable bed, spacious, great views. Having a breadmaker in the room and fresh bread on arrival is a stroke of genius. Unfortunately the reception staff (one woman in particular) let the place down. Reception staff are supposed to be helpful, not regard customers as though they are a nuisance - further training needed here! Other staff, in the restaurant, room service and cleaning staff were very friendly and approachable. Other than this, we really enjoyed staying at this very pleasant resort.
"Sorry but well below Par for us."
Let me start by saying that if you stay at Clearwater for the Golf then your on a winner as the course looks great with plenty of water / trees to keep the best all players interested bit if you are looking for an alternative to staying in a hotel in centre if what is left of ChCh then I’d look elsewhere. We arrived at about 4.00pm after an all- day drive up from Queenstown and the check in process went smoothly and we got our room (Lake Front Villa 2023). But things started to go downhill pretty well straight away with a litany if issues that needed attention. Firstly we opened the door facing the lake to take in view and allow some much needed fresh air inside and within approx. 1 minute were joined by about 50 huge mozzies who made themselves at home in our unit. I know the resort can do nothing about this but the inside is certainly in their control and the apartment needed some urgent attention and love. Firstly there was the issue of the running downstairs toilet, the exhaust fan that could not be turned off in the downstairs toilet, the wear holes in the carpet, the broken blinds in the upstairs bathroom meaning they could be closed, the spots of “something†left on the upstairs toilet, the inability to close to garage door, the broken light leading form the garage to the entry door (it was like a strobe light) the bin that was full of food scraps that was left in the garage. I suppose the whole place seemed to have a general run down / tired feel about it with stains on carpets / marks on walls and furniture and don’t forget we seemed to be on the flight path of every incoming flight to ChCh airport including a 02.15am arrival that I thought was landing in our lounge room. Having said all of the that we ate at the restaurant on night one and in the Bar on night 2 and both were adequate although there are no other options close by. Young Campbell in reception seemed to be on duty each time we had an issue and did his best to fix the problems but by the end we gave up as we only stayed 2 nights – he seems a good type. In summary if you are looking to play Golf certainly stay but if you are looking at an alternative to staying the middle of ChCh then I’d look elsewhere.
We had an updated modern room/suite looking over the lake. Very clean and tidy with carparking out the front of the room. Huge king bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and offered great service.
