"Wonderfully relaxing resort in a beautiful setting"

   20-03-2017
This resort probably exceeded my expectations. We booked a garden villa with a pool. The room was large with a very comfortable king sized bed. The bathroom was open air (but not over-looked) and in spite of being worried about mosquitos when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, it added to the overall ambience of our stay. We didn't actually use our villa pool much preferring the resort pool but did appreciate having more outside space and the greater privacy that the garden villa offered. The grounds were lovely and the beach was superb. We relaxed mainly around the pool area which was nicely landscaped and a good size. The hotel offered a good programme of activities. I particularly enjoyed the daily cooking demonstration. Breakfasts were good with fantastic fresh juices. We had lunch at the beach shack which offered reasonably snacks. Every day from 4.00 tea and cake were served on the lawn and this was a really nice touch. The main restaurant offered a buffet every evening. Some people found this a bit expensive. However we chose to eat a la carte which was very reasonable and we had three delicious dinners here. On one of the evenings we chose to go to the fish restaurant which we very much enjoyed and I would recommend that any visitor try this. I had read some reviews saying the restaurant staff weren't all well trained. However our experience was that the service was really good and delivered with a huge amount of charm. I would very happily return to Marari Beach and would like to experience some of the other properties in the group.

"Very relaxing with lovely staff"

The resort is a 2 hour drive from Kochi airport through busy traffic. We arrived at night so lots of mopeds/bikes with no lights etc. pedestrians in road, tuk-tuks everywhere. Pleasant meeting at reception with coconut drink, map showing facilities and a guided walk to our villa. The resort has around 60 'villas’ in the grounds. We were in No.15 next to lake and close to swimming pool. Appeared to be mainly Germans and English although resort wasn’t full. Room was large and comfortable, with air-con, but with an open-air bathroom which was very hot and humid at night. Not overlooked luckily. Only slight downside was that room safe was not bolted down. So if a thief (probably very unlikely here) wanted your valuables he could grab them all at once just by picking up safe. Seemed to be quite common in India, even in 5* hotels. The main restaurant is next to pool with very friendly staff. Buffet is best bet with highlight being calamari, prawns and fish fried to your taste as you wait. Also a good selection of starters, main courses and desserts, almost all in Kerala style. Around 1700 rupees each. Beer very reasonable at 300 rupees a bottle. Poolside snacks/drinks were also reasonably priced. Breakfast was also very good. A great selection, the highlight here being the freshly 'crushed’ pineapple juice and smoothies. Just wish the coffee was hotter and stronger. Beware if sitting under palm umbrellas next to pool. They do not shield you from the sun. I got very red top and quite badly sunburnt feet ! We got up early one morning (6:30-7:00) to watch fisherman landing their catch just along beach from hotel. Not very exciting actually. Beware that the fisherman use beach for their early morning toilet i.e. they do **** on their own doorstep ! So watch your step. Sea is warm and appears clean … just don’t swim too near fishermen ! We only stayed 2 nights but it was very relaxing after a hectic 2 weeks up north.

"Wonderful Beach Hotel"

   14-03-2017
Marari Beach Resort is truly wonderful. Our stay started with a warm and professional welcome. The room - a bungalow - was extremely comfortable. Very nice swimming pool area and gardens. The restaurant serves very good and diversified food (one of the best during our holidays in India). Beautiful beach (not private but almost deserted; we rented a shadow and chairs from an independent supplier). Quite attentive and very nice staff. Fast and powerful wi-fi. Couldn't ask for more or better.

"Holidays with parents "

This place is awesome, breathtaking views, clean sandy beaches, lovely waters for swimming, from here you get backwater canal tours, small shikara for couples which take you the the quaint village backwaters, do recommend that and lunch at a very basic local eatery by these water canals. Nothing fancy

"5 days too long"

   13-03-2017
Very nice hotel, lovely pool room. Feels slightly strange as you walk through the grounds to the beach. A very large seemingly unkept area, but it was winter and leaves falling, so forgive this. Helpful staff. On day one the mini 'bar' had one bag of nuts, one soda and one Coca Cola. That was it. The region doesn't offer too much in alternative eateries, so you are left with the hotel, which doesn't do room service. The buffet restaurant offered very tasty alternatives and was good quality, the specialist fish restaurant a tiny bit disappointing. So breakfast and dinner in the same venue for 5 nights, made it a day too long. Nice beach safe swimming, lovely organic garden. Plenty of bird life if that's your thing, with a guide called Shibu, who has the most incredible knowledge and wildlife pictures. Courtesy pedal cycles which was good fun.
