"Tired old resort in need of major renovation, and a long way from town"
The reort is quite a way from town, so you are at the mercy of the shuttle bus. The hotel is in need of a major renovation. It is past the point of just repairing it. The grounds are beautiful, and the staff was great. Food in the restaurant was good. pool is lively, but the wood deck around it is rotten.
"Stunning Gardens & pool, a good place to relax, but still close to LP"
I visited Santi Resort & Spa a little over 8 years ago on my own, and remembered it as a place I would like to share. This time I came to Luang Prabang with my wife and after having 5 days in the Old Town part of Luang Prabang and a trip to the Plain of Jars, we moved to this resort for a relaxing few days. When I was first here 8 years ago, the resort was at the end of a terrible dirt road, so bad that the Jumbo (Lao name for Tuk Tuks) drivers were reluctant to come here at any price. Now the road in sealed and in good condition, making it much more accessible. We were booked here for 3 nights with a move to Santi Hotel in town for the last two nights of our stay in Luang Prabang. However we enjoyed the large pool and the idyllic gardens and location so much, that we changed our booking to extend the stay to 5 nights and depart to the airport directly from Santi Resort. Initially we had a Deluxe room in Building 1 which was a 30M2 Room with a balcony. Our only issues were with the bathroom. There was very low water pressure making a shower difficult and a bath time consuming. Also it was a combined shower & bath with a plastic shower curtain. But away from the bathroom the room was lovely. When we decided to stay on, to compensate for the higher cost booking we had made at Santi Hotel, we were moved to a 40M2 Junior Suite in the slightly newer Building 7 which was fairly similar in design but had a bigger bathroom, separate bath and shower and Excellent Water Pressure from a Rain Shower !! Joy !! The pool is very large and we spend a lot of time near it. There is very good Wifi throughout the resort – there is even a separate node at the pool. And each Wifi Node has the same Logon making connection simple. But the real bonus of this resort, is the lush tropical gardens which are so well maintained. At the time of writing, we are still enjoying our stay at Santi Resort and Spa which is drawing to an end all too quickly. We would certainly recommend this resort to other travellers, and are looking forward to our next visit. But make sure you stay in the old town for a few days first, to have your fix of the markets and wats and the general atmosphere, and then adjourn to Santi Resort and Spa to thoroughly relax.
Set some 15 minutes’ drive outside the town centre this small resort is set in wonderful garden full of streams, ponds of lilies and tropical plants and trees. Our twin room was fine with a good air con system, comfy beds and a kettle with supplies. Everything was very clean. Being on a busy tour we didn't get a lot of time to use the leisure facilities other than the pool which was deserted on the two times we used it. Non-swimmers should be cautious as the depth drops almost immediately on entering the pool to 1.6 meters. There was a hotel staff member on duty at the pool bar each time we visited. There are mosquito nets for each bed in your room. Although we didn't see any mossies we certainly saw some other bugs some which were significantly bigger than at home and that not even the army of little geckos outside our room door could cope with! Friendly staff but the general level of English was low so be careful to make clear any requests you have. The resort runs a free hourly shuttle to and from the sister Santi hotel in the centre of the town. Given we didn't have much time to use the facilities at the resort we would, on balance, have preferred to stay at the hotel which is surrounded by restaurants, the night market etc. WARNING The decking around the pool area is damaged in parts and we found several areas where screw heads were sticking up that would cause cuts if stepped on. We reported this and they said they would fix them but the hotel should be more proactive on this like this. Tread carefully and wear shoes or the flip flops provided in the room.
"So disappointing "
Do not confuse this hotel with the Villa Santi in town (which is beautiful). Santi Resort is the sister resort.... but it's a very poor relation. It's poorly maintained. Our rooms stank of cigarette smoke which they had clearly tried to cover up with air freshener (even worse). Mosquito nets had numerous holes in them. Lamp shade had dreadful water stains ALL over them. Bathroom was in bad shape - cheap shower curtain, poor and badly maintained fittings. The gardens were pretty enough and the pool looked ok. Management were neither helpful nor welcoming, and didn't even help us to carry our bags in. The whole place looked tired. The shuttle bus operates only at 9.30, 12.30, 14.30, 17.30, 19.00, 21.00, 22.00. Not the 'regular shuttle' the website would have you believe. And all this for considerably more than we had paid for our very nice hotel in town! We left within 30 minutes, despite having 3 kids in tow.
"So peaceful "
This is one of the most peaceful hotels I have stayed in it's a little bit out of town but there is a free bus shuttle should you want to venture out. I have a room facing the pool and sitting on the balcony looking at the lovely gardens is a great way to unwind
