Het eiland Koh Phi Phi ligt ten zuidoosten van Phuket en bestaat uit twee eilanden, Phi Phi Don en Phi Phi Lee. Een azuurblauwe zee, gemengd met hagelwitte stranden omzoomd door palmbomen, vormde het decor voor de film ‘The Beach’.

We headed out to Phi Phi DON island not knowing what to expect when all of a sudden these magnificent mini islands appeared.We were dropped off at landing dock and driven around onto the most gorgeous setting ie bungalows and a beach so pretty and we relaxed and were spoiled by the most gorgeous people on the staff.The meals were a different buffet every night,we had seafood one night and Asian the next wow.also made friends with local staff who were so accomodating.The rooms were very comfortable clean and just a stonesthrow from the most gorgeous beach i have ever seen.Congratulations Phi Phi you won me over

"Service is not on par with the Holiday Inn"

I had written a review for this property and for some reason it did not post. We stay at an IHG property nearly every week and we have stayed in many IHG hotels and resorts. We belong in the top level of their member's reward program. This property was so highly rated so we had some expectations it would be half-way decent. Overall, the services we received were mixed. Sometimes, the response time and the staff's attitude were good and other times, they were downright horrible. Our kids got sick after eating at the property and around mid-night, our son threw up on the bed. We waited nearly 1 hour for someone from housekeeping to come and bring us a clean blanket and only after we called the second time. No cleaning was offered so we did it ourselves. The worst part of having to be jolted out of bed with a kid throwing up is to get that expression on the staff's face at having to haul away a dirty blanket which we did fold so that the soiled part was on the inside. We did tell them our child threw up. But the staff came utterly unprepared with no cleaning supplies to help us and the expression of annoyance. Lovely! Even after staying there two months ago, I can still remember these details. And it took them a few days later to come and apologize after I complained about what had happened. Here are the pros and cons of the property. Pros 1. Very nice setting - peaceful and natural with the beach literally right out the door! Of all the properties on this stretch of the beach, this was the closest to the water. 2. Each bungalow has an outside sitting area. 3. Free kids' activities. 4. Free movies you can borrow. 5. Two pools though one is adults only and therefore, off limit to kids. 6. Breakfast consists of a lot of options. Cons 1. Not a lot of other things to do if you're not into water activities. You need to take a long tail boat to go to the main part of KPP which can be a good thing if you want to get away from the crowds. The hotel has a spa center which I did try and I was not impressed with the facial nor the massage. 2. The mosquitos. 3. The inconsistency with the quality of service. Some of the staff were nice but others were not. 4. Information provided by the staff were also inconsistent and unreliable. We asked about a boat transfer before arriving and were told to schedule our own. When we did dock at the main pier, we saw a HI staff and found out they have their own transport from that pier to their hotel. One day before we departed the HI, someone called us and asked if we had transfer and we said we had arranged for a long tail to take us to Ao Nang. We were told this was very unsafe to do. Well, we survived that trip and it was much shorter than going back to the main pier to board a crowded boat back to Ao Nang. 4. The rooms are a bit small and could use a face lift. There were definitely wear and tear in the room. The bathroom needs an overhaul. 5. Housekeeping was not so great, missing spots and not cleaning so well. 6. The food from the restaurants were not so great. I would skip it and go next door to some of the restaurants outside the hotel. Would we stay here again? Probably not. I was not impressed with the French GM who we met. He seems to run the hotel in a very laissez faire way which is not the way to do it if you want excellence in service. I watched him as Chinese guests passed and he didn't say hello or greet them. That's bad. No matter what you think of Chinese tourists, they do make up the bulk of your revenue so treat them like any other guests who help your bottom line. This property could be so much better if the service was awesome. I could overlook all the other imperfections but service needs to be top notched. Their entire team needs to be trained because service was so inconsistent and not professional. The staff at the very front of the hotel – before the lobby area – need to be moved somewhere else. They are bad for the hotel’s image as they look like thugs. They don’t smile or greet you. They seem to be most of time socializing with each other and not there to take care of the guests.

"Super quite"

Phi phi from another view The hotel is far far away from any party zone. When you arrrive at the pier you need a boat to reach the hotel. No cars, no bikes - nothing. The bungalows are a bit older but quite ok We have had half board and the food ( buffet ) was amaizing. Every day a different motto. Perfect. Nattha is a great, after one day we were known and always asked what we need. I can recommend this location also the prices on the mini market are too high. Tip: walk 2.5 kms and there is phi phi villages where you can have a drink Very good is the band playing in the evening

"Hassle to get to"

After reading hundreds of reviews and much debating I selected the Holiday resort hoping for a nicer room and was rather disappointed. I booked an ocean front bungalow. The view wasn't spectacular by any means I was in room 109 that is located behind the activities bungalow so although I was very close to the beach my view was anything but awesome. The bed was really nice and the AC worked well and kept the room nice and cool. The bathroom wasn't great and the shower was super small. The breakfast buffet was very good. The biggest issue I had was not the hotel but trying to get there. Getting to and from the main part of the island was much harder than I believed it would be. First off getting to the resort after arriving to the main dock cost about double what it should have. The most one should pay is 1000 BAHT for a private long tail. These guys were trying to charge us 1200 per person and we talked them down to 2400 for the four of us. This became a common problem throughout our stay. It was easy all days but one to get a taxi from the resort but getting back was always a hassle. They tell you as long as you leave before 10 pm that it will be no problem but we had issues each time leaving by 9:00. One night I was almost certain we would have to get another room because no one would take us saying the wind was too bad (it wasn't) the taxi drivers would hassle you wanting to give you a ride right until you told them "holiday inn" that was when they would instantly jack up the rates or try to get someone else to take the fair. So overall I was disappointed in our stay at the Holiday Inn. I compared our room with the ones some friends were staying at. They paid half the amount for a "3 star" and the room was actually much nicer than ours. If I could do it over again we would have stayed and the Phi Phi beach resort. If you don't plan on leaving the resort once you get there then by all means this is a great place quiet and very beautiful.

"Terrible hotel, awesome beach"

Almost everything was disappointing about my room (112) at the Holiday Inn phi phi island. The first thing I noticed was how outdated the room was. There also some black stains all over the mirror right outside the entrance to the bathroom which is an extremely off putting first impression, especially considering how long it took to get to the hotel from our previous destination in Tokyo. Furthermore, our air conditioner did not work. We were enjoying the beach all day and did not spend time in the room the first night and did not notice until we were trying to fall asleep and could not since the thermostat registered 28 Celsius in the room. We tried to sleep through it, but could not tolerate it and thus called maintenance at 2am. They came to our very quickly thankfully and acknowledged it was broken. They said we would have to stay next door until they figure out what is going on and our luggage could stay in the room. I understand this can occasionally occur, and it is not anyone’s fault, but the communication about the issue was flat out unacceptable. We had no idea if we had to change rooms the following day as no one told us what was going on. It was very uncomfortable and awkward trying to change clothes and prepare for the day when maintenance crew was going in and out of our room to fix the issue. We had to keep our passport and money on us and could not take advantage of the safe since we weren’t getting any status updates on the repair (the repair men did not speak English). Finally, late in the following morning, we were told we could return to our initial room after I had to ask the front desk what was going on. After all this, we couldn’t help but notice how many bugs were in the room. It is probably due to the fact that the front door was open since maintenance was coming in and out and also the windows were flat out useless and had serious corrosion in the trimming. You could literally see outside through the holes in the window siding. We were constantly dealing with bugs in our room and towards the end; we noticed our clothes and luggage were engulfed with them. It was almost impossible to relax with all these issues. We could not wait to leave this hotel. Also, no one apologize or asked how our stay was. The front desk was very rude when checking out. I stayed in holiday inns previously, but I never expected such a poor experience, especially considering what I’m use to from them. The beach however was outstanding. Definitely recommend seeing this beach, but just stay somewhere else.
