"Many positive features, with some significant negative aspects."

My wife and I spent a fortnight staying in this hotel, our first visit to Mauritius. We arrived by rental car, having driven right up the island, a journey of about an hour and a half. (We strongly recommend following signs to ‘the north’ and avoiding Port Louis whenever possible – traffic was horrendous). We were very disappointed to be downgraded on our arrival (overbooking) – to a superior room rather than the deluxe room we had reserved. This was due to be for one night, on the understanding that we would move into a large family room for the rest of our stay. We were asked to keep our cases packed as much as possible – this was massively inconvenient. We were given some freebies to soften the blow. To compound the problem, there was heavy rain overnight, and I woke to water dripping from the ceiling on my bed. Waking to wet sheets was a most inauspicious start to her holiday. The next day, we picked up a picnic we had pre-ordered. This was an unexciting and dry affair – heavily on the bread and light on the variety. We didn’t bother with this again. The family room was a great deal more spacious and was in a quieter part of the hotel. We found house-keeping to be a hit-or-miss affair in terms of restocking the fridge, replacing towels, leaving mosquito tablets. Despite the grading of this room, we experienced tiresome issues with the plumbing, especially the flow of hot water into the sink. Our room was on the top floor in the building, up two flights of stairs (no lift available for those with restricted mobility). There was a view of the sea from the balcony although it was largely obscured by palm fronds. We were not disturbed by the traffic noise of vehicles using the coast road which separates the hotel from the beach although it was sometimes tricky to cross. Buses drive very fast! The room itself was very acceptable apart from the issues described above. There was plenty of storage and the bed was firm and comfortable. There was a DVD player in the room. The benches were not such pleasant pieces of furniture for sitting although clearly they were there to provide additional bedding. Lighting in the room was particularly poor so reading in the room or on the terrace was not an option. The wet room shower always had ample hot water at good pressure. Wifi was strong and dependable in the public areas although we found it inconvenient not to have it available in the room. Parking was always available in the hotel grounds. The gardens are beautiful, carefully maintained by the diligent and friendly ground staff. We found the buffet breakfast to be perfectly adequate to set us up for the day. We were staying on an all-inclusive basis which meant that we often ate in the restaurant at lunchtime. The dinner buffet provided plenty of choice – we particularly liked the grilled fish. There was never any duplication of meals – there were plenty of local cuisine alternatives and a number of options for vegetarians. Serving staff were unfailingly responsive and friendly. We enjoyed using the same table by the pool, sometimes adorned with flowers from the garden. (Particular thanks to Frederick, our waiter. What a star!) We took advantage of the opportunity to experience a range of cocktails, milk shakes, wine and beer – all-inclusive worked for us. The bar staff did a great job, soon learning our names and preferences. Few guests seemed to wear anything different to dinner, with vests, tee shirts and shorts being more prevalent than smart casual wear. Entertainment in the evening was low key which suited us fine. We could still chat in the bar whilst enjoying the singing or recorded music. There were odd events during the day but these again were quiet affairs with very little uptake. We thought the beach across the road was as good as any on the island, especially the little bay to the right as you look out to sea, away from the sun beds and thatched parasols. We enjoyed a walk down to Pereybere, paddling in the warm Indian Ocean. We did this at low tide, but the difference in water level between low and high tide is minimal. Staying at Coin de Mire Attitude was a very good decision despite the rocky start and some of the issues we experienced during our stay. It is a relaxing and comfortable hotel, with so much character and charm. The restaurant and bar staff are a great asset and were the most significant factor in helping us to enjoy our stay.

"Beautiful, perfect choice for us "

Had a wonderful 6 nights at the coin de mire hotel. I don't usually stay at 3 star hotels but this has become one of my favourites. My partner and I just can't understand how it can possibly be a 3 star, it certainly has 5 star service. What sets this aside is the check in on arrival .... after a long flight I hate having to stand at a desk and fill out forms , well here you are immediately seated and brought lemon grass juice and a cold towel then check in procedures are done whilst you are seated , not at a desk. Secondly every morning at breakfast the team ask you how well you slept , something I'm never asked at other hotels I'm a vegetarian and this hotel was perfect for me. The beach is so spectacular that the tourist board have the photo of this beach on the back of the map. All the staff were amazing , Ashley is so friendly, Richard really cares and took the time to ponder over the map with us as we planned our road trip to the south west. Kobeer is the loveliest porter come gardener come everything and saw us coming out of our room on the last day with our cases and insisted on helping . Within a day the bar staff new our drinks order. We went out on the hotels catamaran and the staff (3) were great and made us feel like we were out with friends. A perfect choice of hotel for us and we will return. Thank you to all the staff

"Great stay"

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were welcoming on arrival. The beach opposite the hotel is brilliant with free sun beds and water activities. The gardens are beautiful and really well kept, the fresh flowers on the bed every so often is a really nice touch. There is a little gym, tennis court, little arcade, a play area, spa and a shop. The bus stop is just up from the main entrance which was handy as there are no shops or restaurants nearby. All of the staff were great including security and housekeepers but many thanks to Ashley, Christina and Manjoo for making our stay extra special.

"Wonderful Stay...Great team....We would absolutely go back!"

We arrived at Coin de Mire Attitude following 16 hours of travel and naturally were so pleased to be greeted by warm and welcoming staff, a cold flannel and a glass of lemongrass juice. The team were incredibly prompt to turn our check in around and within minutes we were whisked off through the hotel grounds to a our superior pool facing room complete with balcony and view (even if slightly restricted) of the islands lagoon. The Superior room is basic but we found it to be really comfortable and spacious and the shower was great. During our stay we also had the pleasure of experiencing the Deluxe room which was on the opposite side of the hotel grounds. This room was even more spacious, modern and had a slightly more suite like feel to it, Both rooms are nice but for the added luxury we would recommend paying the extra for the deluxe. Everyday the cleaners greeted us with a smile and took the time to ask us about our stay, they would also ensure that we always returned to an immaculate room with regular towel and floral arrangements. We stayed on the half board basis and found breakfast was great and provided a whole host of options whether you are grabbing something on the go or sitting down to eat. We were pleased to see breakfast also started pretty early which was useful for those days with earlier starts. Dinner is buffet style and very relaxed (Not a la carte) but we found the selection pretty good and felt there would be something for everyone, the team always went out of the way to seat us in our favourite spots even in the busier times and also made a cake for my husbands birthday which was a lovely touch. Eating out is also a must and just a short drive away Grand Baie is home to some really nice beachfront restaurants. Le Capitaine has a wonderful fish menu!! For those relaxed days when you are not out exploring the island the beach opposite the hotel is lovely, and includes lovely lagoon waters, it is also home to a selection of water sports, boat trips and other activities. The poolside is also nice and generally pretty quiet and relaxing. Do not be put off by comments stating that this hotel and its beach are separated by a road as this will have absolutely no bearing on your stay...a) the beach it is still on your doorstep and b) Mauritius is a beautiful island and must be explored. All in all i believe our trip was made all the better because we returned home everyday during our stay to this hotels friendly, helpful and thoughtful team and we would like to say a massive thank you to you all, including the spa staff, my massage was really enjoyable. To those visiting and looking to explore be sure to: .Take boat trips to Ile aux cerfs, Crystal rock, Ile aux Bénitier and Blue Bay and enjoy all the breathtaking views during your trips. .visit the fertile valley in the south west and Chamarel mountains, 7 coloured earth, waterfalls & rum distillery, the food is also exceptional at the Chamarel rum distillery so its worth having a spot of lunch there. .visit the french Labourdonnais Chateau and rum distillery (food also very good) .snorkelling .scuba diving .swim with wild dolphins
