"Okay - did the job "

Transfer is quite lengthy but think most are. The superior room we had was good - think was worth paying the extra for those near to front . Food was okay - breakfast ok - lunch was best - lots of choice. we always tended to gently amble to dinner and found most of the food was gone and no longer hot by the time we got there. And we struggled to find a spot most nights. There were lots of seats/ loungers By pool and on front. And a good view - we felt safe walking along the beach each day - just say no or ignore the sellers . There’s no drinks service by the pool or beach front and not really any convenient toilets so you have to trek up for both ( it’s a hard life!). Some of the staff were a bit on the harsh side or rather lacking in happy customer service. They always looked busy/ stressed/ over worked on the bar . In the restaurant it was all about clearing the plates. The girls in particular were quite grumpy - but may have just been frowning on western girls asking for a second glass of wine at lunchtime (!) We were all inclusive which meant we could only eat and drink in the main restaurant and bar. It’s a shame as the beach front bar would have been great to use. It did us for 5 rest and chillax but may have driven us crazy for a longer stay. As the title says. It was okay. It did the job but I would not rave about it.

"Great hotel"

We stayed here for 4 nights. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. We had requested adjoining rooms as we have young children. We dined in the sister hotel one night as they had more vegetarian options. The staff were happy to cook us special food too. It rained for the first 24hrs we were there and there was a problem with electricity and flooding but the staff tried to sort it out. The beach is clean. The swimming pool was lovely and reasonably warm.

It’s our last day at Blue Bay Beach hotel a true African Gem. Our six day stay has been fantastic. The property, beach and food is amazing; a true five star experience. Our highlights were the staff at the hotel. They were very friendly and always helpful when we needed assistance. The food was good with live cookings and a wonderful evening band that entertained. The property is also very child friendly with an awesome kids club that our daughter really enjoyed. We definitely will come back soon and highly recommend the hotel.

"Improvement needed"

Having spent a week at Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa I had the chance of having a really good experience (nice resort where to stay) but also some inconveniences that usually needed some time to be sorted out. Something that really exceeded my expectations and all guests travelling with me was the quality of food: breakfast, lunch and dinner were always great! Good choices of varieties that almost never were repeated. Every night there was a thematic buffet dinner with the according show happening. Restaurants and bars staff were mostly friendly and smiley, however sometimes a bit slow in service... well, it’s Tanzania: “pole pole” (typical Swahili expression that means SLOW!). Apart from the good food experience, I was really disappointed about the cleanliness of the room, the shower especially, and the reposition of amenities and towels. Almost everyday some towel was missing out and we needed to call reception to bring them in, and after a while we rather going personally to the reception desk. However, the girls who get the bed ready for the night were pretty good. I really think that a better control and supervision before allowing guests checking in is of fundamental importance (one small towel and the shower carpet were missing on our arrival and the shower towels were cleaned yes but with marks); secondly, everyday a supervision after the daily cleaning procedure should be done in my opinion.

"A grown up hotel"

This hotel is about an hour from the airport on an amazing white sand beach. Check in (at gone midnight!!) went without a hitch and someone in full Masai costume carried my luggage to the room. A bigger bed than any I came across in my travels to the USA was really comfy and I slept in total silence. Huge choice at breakfast with two egg stations and just about anything anyone could possibly want to eat - and the choices changed daily. The only weird thing was the liver in gravy but, presumably, there is a nationality somewhere that eats it for breakfast. Lunch was also pretty awesome. Always a soup, always something plain grilled, always something cooked to order. Good choice of salads but the chef outdoes himself when it comes to desserts! Amazing! Dinner, like lunch, gave plenty of choice and the actual dishes were always different. Again always a soup and a pasta. Starters brilliant and once again the desserts were fantastic - specially considering there's no fresh cream. Others have said the entertainment was poor. I loved it. You could remain in your dinner seat and listen to the band, watch the Masai dancing (or the Zanzibarian equivalent of Diversity) or watch whatever. True there's no disco or annoying animations team trying to get everyone involved in something noisy and annoying - it's an hotel for people who like to relax, like peace and are happy with their own entertainment. You won't hear pop music blaring out or screaming children running around - but you will have a perfectly relaxing time. There are two snooker tables, table tennis, spa, gym etc. Service is generally very good and attentive although cutlery was sometimes a bit weird e.g. no soup spoons laid but just ask a waitress and they appear. Bar staff remember what you drink. The only niggle was one of the female reception staff who needs a lesson in not raising her voice when the customer doesn't understand what she's just said - unfortunately she seemed to be senior to some of the others and sounding frustrated isn't good for the hotel. It was just the one person though - all the others were very good - no problems arranging late check out facilities even though the hotel was full. Contrary to other reports I had perfect wifi in the room and no problem elsewhere in the hotel. Checked-in online for the return flight no trouble at all, surfed the web easily and all emails came and went with no delay. Would I go again? Definitely!
