"A relaxing stay after trekking an safari"
A nice resort, a bit big. Sometimes you could get lost finding your room. The room was good, clean and a nice view - if you have a room upstairs. The food (buffet style) was OK and with a good variety. But the staff was not really service-minded and not friendly.Sometimes we had to wait very long for our order and sometimes it ordered drinks didn't arrive. At the reception, the staff was not so helpful if you had a request. And the final bill was not right. On the other hand, the staff at the Spa was outstanding (friendly, warm hearted, helpful) as well as the Spa treatments! If you stay there, don't miss this! The beach is great and I really liked the offer of free watersports (sea kayak, stand up paddeling).
"dont go there"
service staff untrained, meals under average, seawater sandy with a lot of seagrass, bathrooms moldy, much too expensive.the houseband plays very well, the acrobatic showgroup performs very well,if you want to have an espresso or icecream you vave to pay extra!!!
I stayed at Bluebay for 8 nights and it was the most excellent expirience ever. Was there with my daughter, originally I booked the Sultan Sands, but at our arrival, they were fully booked (don´t know how that happened) and they put us at Bluebay. We were more than happy with this arrangment. Bungalows are spectacular, rooms are very big, we had one double bed and I must say it was really huge. The balcony with a most beautifull view one can imagine over the resort all the way to the see. Spectacular, really. Big bathroom and everything was very clean. Every evening the maid came to spray the room and prepare the moskito net over the bed. Rooms have everything you need, the safe, the TV (which we never watched, would be a waste of time), a free wi-fi, a refrigiratior and a kettle for preparing a tea or coffee. Every morning they would bring you a fresh bottle of water. The resort is beautifully designed, lots of trees, flowers everywhere, all clean, staf is very nice, wherever you meet one, thay say "Jambo" which means Hi. The reception staff and the restaurant staff all very kind and always there to help you with anything. Food is great, the ambiance at the dinner is fabolous, the waitors, especially Charles very very responsive and nice! the beach is clean, the sea warm, like from a Picture postcard. The beach boys once you get use to them are not very anoying, but very friendly. We made a lot of friends amongs them. The only thing that was not superb was the prices for drinks, they are more expensive that one could expect, but, it is holidays, so you go with a flow. if you book a trip, book the best travel guide on the island, Aiysha Muhammed, she is the first woman guide at Zanzibar, and a very good one. We went for a Stone Town trip, which was great and then for a Blue Safari, I defenetely recommend it! After all I have no complaints, only that the time spent at Bluebay flied too fast! Thanks to all the resort staf for an unforgetable vacation! By far my best vacation and I trully hope to return one day!
"A beach holiday just how it should be"
We stayed at the Bluebay resort for 4 nights and what an amazing holiday it was. The resort is located on a lovely stretch of white sand on the North East coast at Kiwengwa. Places on the North East coast like Kiwengwa, Pongwe, Matemwe have lesser tourist crowd and have practically untouched empty beaches. During low tide, one can walk almost 1.5 kms into the sea comfortably. We were lucky to see starfish in knee deep waters :) Add to this, the resort's sprawling grounds and gardens and the slow pace... just adds lot of character to an idyllic beach holiday. A piece of advice - The journey to the resort can get a bit adventourous. We rented a car from the airport and drove on our own with the help of Google Maps. The shortest driving route will lead you though a rough patch cutting straight through a forest area (kiwengwa pongwe forest). But nothing to get worried, the drive was perfectly safe. No harm in experiencing a bit of offroading... after all its Africa. Having said that there are also perfectly motorable roads to reach Kiwengwa which we figured on our return journey. There are just couple of points i wish the property improves upon: 1) All inclusive with fine print and a blue band: We stayed on an all inclusive package. However, the resort offers only a limted range of alchoholic beverages which defeats the purpose of "all inclusive". Guests on an all-inclusive package are also made to wear a blue band, I don't why!! Everytime we ordered we had to mention our room number and sign a receipt (as is the practice elsewhere) so it puzzled me why guests were made to wear a blue band all the time. 2) Perpetual shortage of juices: On all 4 days we stayed, there seemed to be a perpetual shortage of juices which meant there was further curtailing of choices within the already limited "all inclusive" bar menu. These 2 points apart, everything else about the resort is just what you need to make your holiday memorable. The rooms are very spacious and service levels of staff are very high. Special mention of Benjamin at the front desk, who helped us out with arranging airport transfer at the very last minute. Our rental car conked off, and Benjamin quickly arranged a hotel transport and also took custody of the car to be handed over to the car rental company later. Benjamin, we love you. There's lively band which plays lovely music every evening. The food spread is also wonderful, with the theme changing every night. Do visit Zanzibar atleast once, and definitely look up Blue Bay amongst your choices.
In June I spent almost 2 weeks here together with my mom. The minute we arrived we felt right at home. Our room was excellent and comfortable. We fell in love with this huge bed the terrace with ocean view and the shower immediately. There are a lot of people at the beach trying to sell things, but that doesn't stop the hotel being brilliant. And of course everyone is free to answer no. This is a wonderful hotel with stunning views of the indian ocean. The food was always delicious and there was a wide selection. WiFi was included and we had no problem with it during our stay. Great staff that know the true value of customer service. I'd like to thank Janet and Rhoda for looking after us all the time, but my special thanks goes to Makuti restaurant waiter Charles who truly anticipate our every wish. I only can recommend it to all those who like an awesome service, wonderful view, good food and relaxing atmosphere. By far it was the best stay I've ever had. Everything was great and we cannot wait to go back in future.
