Dit kleinschalige hotel is gelegen in St. Mary’s Bay in Auckland.
De internationale aanvlieghaven van het Noordereiland ligt bij Auckland. Het is de grootste stad van Nieuw-Zeeland en ligt op een landengte tussen twee havens, vandaar de bijnaam 'City of Sails'. Buitenlandse invloeden hebben de stad een kosmopolitisch karakter gegeven. Tweederde van de bevolking woont in of rondom deze stad, vanwege de goede bereikbaarheid.
"One of our best hotel stays, ever!"
Mollies is a boutique hotel close to, but outside, the bustling central district. It's an easy 20-30 minute stroll to the harbor, or a 10 minute Uber ride. The hotel occupies an older, sprawling house that's been well cared for. Our suite opened onto a lovely garden, and the sitting room was enormous, so much that the baby grand piano seemed almost lost at the far end of the room (yes, there was a baby grand piano in our room!). The breakfast was one of our best meals in New Zealand. Fresh ingredients prepared to perfection. To paraphrase our former California 'Gubernator' in one of his earlier roles, "We'll be 'bahk'."
"Not at all Impressed - Confirmed Reservation Not Honoured"
I'd love to give this property a glowing review like many others have, but was denied the opportunity. I booked online through Hotel.com on 26 Jan for 2 nights (11/12 March) and wanting to be sure of the booking, I had simultaneously checked availability on on Mollie's own booking site. Well, the booking was accepted with a confirmation email etc etc, but then some 3 weeks later Booking.com emailed me and without a meaningful explanation, advised the reservation was cancelled. Well, I'd set my heart on staying at Mollie's and was seriously p'd off, so I rang Hotel.com but as I'd expected, got no meaningful reason for the cancellation, but they did offer to reimburse out of pocket expenses. Considering Mollie's is about as expensive as they come, it was a hollow offer. Not to be deterred, I rang Mollie's asking for some explanation (after all, I deserved one), but the gentleman (with a difficult to understand accent) who took the call simply fobbed me of like Sgt Schulz ("know nothing'). I suspect because of the lame excuses, I was bounced because somebody had a higher priority. The outcome: Hotel.com will not get one cent of my annual accommodation spend of AUD$35-40K, and anybody who books at Mollie's - be warned - a confirmation is not as cut and dried as you might expect.
"After Mollie's, can't stay anywhere else in Auckland"
This hotel was simply amazing - now one of our top two favorites in the world. The service is impeccable, the rooms are amazing, the location is super convenient, and the food is excellent. It is a splurge, but it is so worth it.
My husband and I stayed at Mollies for two nights at the start of our New Zealand vacation and every moment of our stay was wonderful! Bernadette and Steve couldn't have been nicer or more professional, as was every member of the staff. After we arrived early in the morning, our bags were whisked away and we sat in the "living room" with some much-appreciated cold drinks. Every room is unique in this extraordinarily cool and quirky hotel! Bernadette has fabulous taste in decor to dishes that was (sort of) a cross between country french and "Alice in Wonderland," with a fascinating mix of modern art, antiques and collectables everywhere you look! They had me with the huge dog portrait when we walked in the first time! We stayed in a junior suite that was roomy, comfortable and stocked with generous sizes of wonderful "Nellie Tier New Zealand" toiletries -- a brand that I hadn't seen before. The breakfasts, served in the front sun room, were delicious and I really enjoyed Steve's healthy drink -- something that I would never have tried, but everything else was so good that I couldn't resist. Although we didn't rent a car until we left Auckland for Rotorua, Steve suggested we use Uber to get around town, and it worked out very well! I can understand why everyone loves staying at Mollies so much, and now we do, too!
"Best hotel ever"
It's such as shame this exquisite hotel is reverting to a private residence, it's truly fantastic. My wife and I revisited to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, and met with the current management team of Steve and Bernadette. Wonderful ,warm friendly service, outstanding food and setting, hard to beat,worth looking for wherever this team resurfaces.
