Of u nu komt om te skiën, te wandelen of om de drie vulkanen van het Tongariro National Park te bezoeken, dan is The Skotel een goede keuze. Er is gebruik gemaakt van veel hout dat het resort een sfeervol aanzicht geeft. De chef-kok van het restaurant verwerkt dagelijks verse producten uit Nieuw-Zeeland. De kamers beschikken over alle benodigde faciliteiten en zijn knus ingericht. Dit resort is de hoogst gelegen accommodatie van Nieuw-Zeeland, met een geweldig uitzicht!

Tongariro is het oudste nationale park van Nieuw-Zeeland. Hier kunt u prachtige wandelingen maken. Vanwege de mineralen in de grond rondom de vulkanen variëren de kleurschakeringen van rood en geel tot zwart en zijn de meren helderblauw van kleur.

"cheap kids cooked breakfasts"

One adult and three children slept comfortable in a one room unit with queen bed and one bunk, small but all we needed as, roomy bathroom, nice little deck outside sliding door. cheap meals at pub 5 mins walk down the road

"Superb accommodation"

Our family experience at Skotel was excellent. The room was exactly as we hoped - a shared family room with basic amenities and a million dollar view. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. The stand out feature of Skotel for us was the staff. Young, fresh, eager-to-help staff made our stay easy and pleasant. From waiters who helped us manage tired grizzly kids, to bar staff that offered to show us a particular run on the mountain, to reception staff that answered our 1000 questions. You can all be very proud of the service you provide.

"Not the best"

My family and few freinds stay on Skotel Alpine for three nights in one of the Cabin. The place was well heated, clean and had a view. But I did not like was it was quite small compared to the photos diplay in the website. I guess, i expected some racks/wardrobe to put on our clothes and shoes. The receptionist was not very pleasant the time we checked in. She sounded rude and unaccomodating. We did not get the free internet as well due to some techincal glitch (Good we were gadget free for few days) What I can really say- good value for money, good distance from happy valley and the chateau. Go for it but do not expect much out of it.

"Great Backpackers stay"

it was very close to the ski area with a convenient free shuttle. rooms are good. poorly insulated. good kitchen for baxkpackers. the gear rental in the hotel is super convenient. the stuff they have is mediocre though. sauna is non nude and in the basement without windows, so not ideal and a bit stale.

"Worst stay ever - leaking roof!"

Booked 2 superior rooms on BB plan. Convenient and nice setting. Went at 1.50pm and was asked to wait till checkin opens at 2pm. While waiting, another customer asked if he can check in and the staff immediately said YES. There's only 1 girl at the reception, so having to wait for our turn, we asked if we can check in and was told 'maybe, if the rooms are ready'. Reception staff checked with house keeping and asked us to wait another 20 mins! Not wanting to rush the cleaning process, we patiently waited till 2.30. We were then given the rooms keys and was told that 1 room is ready and if we 'take our time and walk really slowly towards our rooms' the second room could be ready by the time we reach!? They didn't bother to apologize for the delay or thank us for patiently waiting with 2 kids (3 & 6 years) after a long drive from Auckland. The rooms didn't look at all like the photos on the website. Even though we booked the superior, it looked worse than the standard rooms advertised. Rooms were cramped up, not clean and it was quite evident they rushed cleaning the rooms, specially the bathrooms. The floor around the toilet had horrible stains, the toilet seat wasn't clean and there was just 5-6 toilet paper left on the roll! Worst issue of all was that the roof was leaking and water dripping straight on to the bed! We called reception and complained. Waited 30 mins and called again. Waited another 10 mins and finally it was checked and we were told there was no solution they could give us as they are fully booked and they cannot fix the roof either. Once they realized we are not going to take no for an answer, they offered to check with The Chateau if they have any rooms available. Another 15 mins later, a girl comes to say they've moved some other guests to The Chateau as we booked 2 rooms. She just gave us keys for the adjoining room (216) and said we can return the keys to the leaking room (218) once we move our stuff. Worst customer service we've ever had - anywhere! Wasted 2 hours of our day and ruined the mood of our holiday too! The new room 216 was in a very good condition (compared to 218), it was cleaner and more spacious. The only issue was that the commode would splash water everywhere (wall, toilet seat, tissue roll etc.) when it flushed but we just closed the lid every time we flush and dealt with it as we didn't want to deal with another room change. Next day breakfast was nice. Food was average, sausages were over cooked and dry - almost inedible. They got our order wrong but the restaurant staff were very nice. Since we booked the BB package, we were told we can use the buffet and also order anything off the breakfast menu. However. we were charged for hot chocolate we ordered at checkout. We were also charged another $32 bar charge even though it was not ours. After going through heaps of paper bills and notes the girl at the reception said it was not ours but room 225. Her explanation was that this was caused by our room change although we never occupied 225. The only positive thing I could think of was that they agreed to make a second date change (subject to $30 admin fee) although the BB package allowed only one date change. I have to give them credit for that as our kids were sick and they empathized with our situation and gave us a one off. All in all, we will never return to this hotel! We would drive back to Auckland rather than stay at a hotel in such a poor condition. There are many other accommodation options out there which are much more value for money. We've previously stayed at The Chateau and The Crossing Backpackers which offered very good value for money and awesome customer service.
