"Dream come true"
We had one of the Boat Shed rooms with a glorious view and complete privacy. Excellent room. Staff were wonderfully helpful. Loved the chefs tour of the large vegetable garden and his cooking. Dined on the deck with a spectacular view of the water and sunset. Were sent off in one of their jeeps for a wine tour and swim on a beautiful mile lone beach.
"Quite a wow of a place. But only a 4 star review! :("
Our initial impressions, which are so important, were actually formed way back when we first enquired about booking our stay at The Boatshed. Responses by email were prompt and friendly. But, requests for information about a helicopter transfer from Auckland Airport were met with an acknowledgment and an undertaking to send further info, however this was never forthcoming. My partner had also wished to book a spa treatment, which was the subject of some confusion and a promised confirmation never did arrive. And, I had been impressed by an email asking if we had any dietary requirements, but my mention of being gluten free was not then acted upon as we were presented with bread based canapés on arrival. Having these offered was lovely, and asking for a gluten free option was no problem for the kitchen, apart from a slight delay, but surely this foible was known about already? Little, thoughtful actions, to follow up on the email traffic, would have gone such a long way to really impressing us. But, once here the hotel is quite a wow of a place. The staff are delightful, all very friendly and welcoming and we did feel as if they really enjoyed our company, rather than us just being guests in their hotel. Their relaxed demeanour was great and just what is needed in such a casual place as Waiheke Island. We stayed in one of the bungalows, which was pleasingly private and very well-appointed. A large and extremely comfortable bed was very welcome, although we failed to get to grips with the correct sleeping temperature. Without the air-con it was too warm. With the air-con a cold draught flowed directly over the bed. A real bonus of staying in the Bungalow was the secluded garden area. The 2 bungalows also share a large, additional, area downstairs, as well as having their own sitting rooms, of course. The small touches that had been carried out in our room, prior to our arrival, made it an exceptionally convivial introduction; such as the lit candles, the light music playing, the fresh flowers and fruit left out, etc. The luxurious bathroom was great, and includes a deep freestanding bath, although a privacy blind over the window into the main corridor would have been welcome. But, our one and only real gripe about The Boatshed was the occasional, but total, lack of water pressure or warmth in the shower. We didn’t complain about this at the time, which we really should have done, but we did mention it on departure. Annabelle was upset that we hadn’t told the hotel about this issue, to allow them an opportunity to put things right. This is, of course, fair comment although we would have liked a member of staff to prompt such discourse with the right questions each day. On our first evening, we were served a really great dinner in the private garden of our bungalow. This was very, very romantic, particularly as the view of the bay in the evening sunshine was so stunning. There was some building work going on next door, although this was screened off and the builders were extremely quiet, especially in the mornings. Much of the fantastically fresh produce used in the hotel kitchens comes from their extensive and fruitful gardens. These are also available for guest use, with some wonderfully calm seating areas scattered around for that essential chilling out. All in all this is a fantastic place to stay but, rather sadly, it doesn’t quite make it to a 5 star review. I so wish that it did.
We enjoyed 2 absolutely wonderful days at The Boatshed at the end of our NZ adventure. It is such a beautiful place where every little detail is thought of – so serene and with the best atmosphere. We had high expectations and they were definitely exceeded. The staff is so friendly and service-minded and guided us to a wonderful walk around the island. Breakfast and dinner just fabulous with fresh vegetables from their own garden. There is nothing to put a finger on – just go! I hope we will get a chance to return one day.
"Good food Good Staff - perfect for a family"
Delicious food - not a huge menu but what they do they do v well & can adapt for allergies. 7 of us ate - the staff were lovely & we didn't leave anything! Just great all round…from the oldies to the littles all happy
This was chosen as our relaxation spot before our return to the UK after a busy tour of NZ. It was simply wonderful and beat all expectations. We only wish we had booked more than 2 nights. The staff were delightful. The communal areas are calming and furnished beautifully. The whole place is serene. The attention to detail all around the place is spot on. The food was superb. We stayed in the lighthouse and after communal drinks and canapes we escaped to our room to have a truly wonderful romantic dining experience. Breakfasts were fab. The food is grown in the garden so is fresh and tasty. The views from the Boatshed are beautiful as is Waiheke island itself. It is a little bit of paradise. I only hope we get the chance to return one day.
