We stayed in Rimu Lodge during our first night touring the South Island, having travelled from Christchurch via Arthur's Pass and Punakaiki, the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes to Hokitika, from there on the next day to the Glaciers. Wish we could have stayed longer than only one night. The lodge offers sweeping views over the surrounding country side. Inside it is well furnished, warm and comfortable, providing a lot of privacy. The host/owner Sue-Allen is amazing, such warm and friendly personality, providing a lot of insights and tips on what to do, going out of her way to make sure you are comfortable, yet not imposing on you. When we left after the one night we felt as leaving a friends home after a visit. Sue-Allen had recommended the local hotel/pub for dinner, which was very rustic and felt like a trip back in time. People were very friendly and the food was hearty and very enjoyable. Can highly recommended Rimu Lodge.
"Tranquil perfection "
Rimu Lodge offers a 5 star relaxation indulgence in a peaceful setting. Nearby find rainforests, Jade stone & untamed beaches. Sue Ellen was the perfect host- professional, hospitable & warm. An impressive lodge & a tranquil rest- we plan to return! Cathy
Very clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished . Kind and attentive service in a peaceful place near the nature . You are greeted with some treats like chocolates , port wine and whiskey that is very kind .Delicious breakfast prepared by the host . You have also a menu with many choices . I loved the pets , they are very cute and friendly .Impeccable service . I highly recommend it !
My wife and I stayed at Sue Ellen's Rimu Lodge for two nights at the tail end of the season. The facilities are exceptional in this spacious purpose-built lodge and Sue Ellen is the perfect host; friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and never intrusive. The room was superb and the facilities well suited to the special demands of my wheelchair-bound wife. The only additional thing I would like to see is good wheelchair access from the ground-floor rooms to the beautiful patio deck, precluding the need for assistance in accessing that outdoor area. The whole lodge is immaculate, beautifully furnished and comfortable with Sue Ellen ensuring that a host of small touches add that special lustre to the experience of a stay here. We will definitely be booking any future stays in Hokitika at this lodge, rather than anywhere else as it is undeniably the finest accommodation available in the area.
This small lodge has all the perks of a 4-star hotel with the cozy comforts and feel of home. My husband and I stayed here one night during our travels through the South Island and enjoyed it very much. The "hotel" is more of an upscale B&B run by a woman who I would describe as Martha Stewart-like. She runs a classy establishment and is clearly a good business woman. We received a warm welcome upon arrival and were personally shown to our room. We were thrilled with the well appointed accommodations, the spectacular view and the numerous amenities. After settling in we enjoyed complimentary port wine (me) and scotch (my husband) by the fire and light conversation with the host. She advised us about some road closures due to a recent earthquake and we were grateful for the heads up so we could adjust our travel plans. We also appreciated the restaurant suggestion for dinner which proved to be a good one (and it was very close by). The bed was very comfortable and the linens were luxurious. Breakfast was delectable and the presentation was beautiful (see photos). I have only positive things to say about our stay and highly recommend this "boutique hotel."
