"Great views but overrated"
Its a fantastic location for one for exploring the National park. The lodge is a little out dated (almost 80's style) and for the money not great value for money in our view. if your a 'foodie' then self catering is the best option as the inclusive evening meal is very limited and served to a set time (wine is not included except for a glass pre dinner with canapés i.e. carrots with dip) with everything wrapped up by 9.30pm - as per a previous review it's a bit like a military operation. Breakfast - you need to stock up before you arrive as the supplies provided are very limited. Breakfast up at the lodge is (we felt) almost discouraged - 'as they get very busy'
"A wonderful stay"
My wife and I stayed at the Resurgence in early December for 4 nights. We had the benefit of some glorious cloudless skies which certainly enhanced our visit, but have no doubt this is a magical place and Abel Tasman is a beautiful national park which is within easy reach. We stayed in one of the lodges and found it to be of the highest standard. Our hosts were very welcoming and we liked the flexible options of eating in, eating out and using the bbq. We did all three. The resurgence is certainly not cheap but you will treasure some wonderful memories long after you have forgotten the price.
We're so glad we visited The Resurgence! We were initially thrown off by some of the mixed reviews, but had the most wonderful experience! We arrived at the hotel after a long drive up from Wanaka, and Clare and Peter had given us very clear instructions for how to find the lodge, as well as what to do if we arrived after 10 pm. Our room was wonderful, and exactly what we had hoped for - an oasis in the middle of the valley, with outstanding views and a hugely helpful bug screen. Clare showed us how everything in the room worked. We had chosen the self catering option, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well stocked our kitchenette was with options. There were cereals, home made bread (yum), eggs, butter, cheese, condiments, and a Nespresso machine! What else could one ask for? :) We did a long hike at the Abel Tasman the next day - Marahau was easily accessible by car, and came back ready for some time in the hot tub. Peter was very helpful, and even turned on the sauna for us and brought us a torch, towels and some wine glasses - even though it was pretty late in the evening. It was the perfect place to see the stars, and unwind after a day of hiking. And see some stars we did - the best sighting of the trip (even though we stayed in the dark sky reserve). Thank you so much!
We just finished a miserable stay at Resurgence Eco Lodge. Although highly rated, it is run like a military operation. Owners stressful, no amenities, limited food. No imagination or nice things. Not warm or friendly. Very sterile property with no character or friendliness. Would not recommend. Other guests were wonderful and really interesting people, the best part of the stay.
"Amazing hospitality in an idyllic location."
We had a four night stay in a cottage style lodge with all amenities, including breakfast goods so that we could relax in this peaceful location. Dinners are delicious and we loved meeting and chatting with the other guests at the end of each day. Claire and Peter are amazing hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Interesting activities were sorted out for us each day - there is so much to do in this area that we will have to come back.
