Very excellent stay!! Both luxurious and cosy at the same time!! Terrific location close to the famous tracks in Fiordland National Park and also driving-distance to both Milford and Doubtful sounds! And on top of everything you can do a lot of other things; fishing for example! The food were terrific and so was the service! The rooms were very cosy and well furnitured! And had a great view over the Te Anau-lake and the mountains! We really found this place an excellent stay well worth the money!! And when you came back from a tour or track you could have a cup of tea at the huge fireplace!! This stay will definitely rewind you from all stress and 'must -do'!! Absolutely recommended if you go to Fiordlands!! But do remember to stay long enough to spend at least one day in Milford or Doubtful sounds and also one more day( at least) to walk the tracks!!!
"Quaint and relaxing"
We stayed at Fiordland for our honeymoon. We were in a lodge room on the lower level and the room was small but okay. The appointments were rustic but could probably be freshened up a bit. The main drawback to the lodge is the ability to hear everything and everyone. Every door slam, maid cart roll by and word for word the couple in the room next to you was not ideal. The view is beautiful and the grounds are serene. The food was pretty good but one night neither my husband or I really liked our courses and had to go into Te Anau for a snack. Te Anau doesn't have much going on and what is there closes early, including the grocery store. This is a good place to stay to explore the area and go to Milford Sound however. The staff was great and very helpful as well!
"Oh the views!"
I loved Te Anau area. The beauty is just breath taking. Fiordland lodge is on an amazing location overlooking lakes and mountain. You can just sit on one of the benches and watch scenery all day. We had booked into a canine but then got upgraded to a lodge room. The rooms have amazing views, the are large and very comfortable. The food was excellent. I even got a gluten and dairy free muffin every morning which were delicious. The gluten free cereal and coconut yogurt was also a real treat. Wine list was also good, especially as the had Rippon Reislibg and we cannot get enough of Rippon wine, so we were happy. I guess the only reason I am giving this 4 instead of a 5 is because the rooms were a bit noisy and you could hear other people walking around their rooms at night! Next time I will insist on a cabinet.
"Great option in Te Anau area - but not up to level of other premium lodges"
We enjoyed an excellent stay at Fiordland Lodge in December. The area is a must see and this appeared to be best option and they didn't let us down. The service is outstanding - Top 2 in service among 13 hotel stays. They went well out of there was to help, provided value added ideas and generally made comfortable. The lodge is beautiful as is its setting. They have been very thoughtful in making setting fit within natural landscape. Food was solid but not outstanding. Always challenging for these all inclusive places to produce high quality meals. I'd say they meals were good and better than alternatives in Te Anau but not among best in New Zealand. We stayed in the log cabin. It was a log cabin - rustic. furniture was a little dated but bigger issues with cabin was the set-up of the cabin was not very livable. the only big space was the loft space upstairs which had a king size bed and a twin. It wasn't an optimal bedrooms for kids especially in the summer as it was open to downstairs and thus no blinds impacting getting kids to sleep. Downstairs is a small bedroom with a small queen bed which we ended up using for kids. The cabin lacked space to spread out - the lack of counter space was particularly noticeable. I think unit could be reorganized to improve functionality to guests and encourage management to do so. One specific gripe I have is with wifi which was unreliable at best. I believe decent wifi is an reasonable expectation and my strongest recommendation to management would be to improve wifi service. Still, I had a great stay and would recommend unless you find something better in area - I couldn't.
Luxury stay. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. Great food. Lovely views. Vegetarian rating 4/5. Located near Te Anau and a great place to stay if you are going to or from Milford Sound. We went after driving to Milford Sound.
