Very nice resort with little nice chalets. Very friendly staff! We took a snorkelling package that you can order on the website of the resort, which includes transport to the island and back, all meals and 2 snorkelling trips, but I would recommend you to just book a room, and do the rest when you are there. Other than that, the snorkelling trips, breakfast and dinner were very good! Sadly, the lunch included in the package is western food and every normal person doesn't want to eat western food in Asia... Diner made up for a lot since it was 5 courses of Malay food!

"Lovely three day stay on Besar at Tuna Bay - great for families, snorkeling or lazing around on the beach."

My partner and I stayed at Tuna Bay for three days, three nights and really enjoyed it. It's reasonably priced (we booked directly), has a good restaurant and sits in a lovely stretch of Main Beach on Besar. We came here after two days on Long Beach on Kecil and it's definitely the quieter of the two islands. Our standard garden facing queen chalet (room 9) was good and I found it really spacious. Our room backed into one of the beach facing chalets, so we were right next to the beach but far away from the restaurant which was good. The rooms are pretty basic, but have good bedding, a warm shower/toiletries and a safe. We had a double and single bed in our room, but not on request. If you prefer a king bed then you should probably ask when reserving. (My understanding is these rooms coming with either or) Food options on the island are fairly limited, unless you want to take a walk in the dark at dinner along a path that leads to other hotels and restaurants. We found that Tuna Club was pretty decent, serving asian, seafood and western food (though we stuck to Asian and seafood which we found delicious, so can only recommend that). The included breakfast is good and seems to change somewhat daily and included good western options including toast, eggs, pancakes etc. The beach is very pretty and has sun loungers but without cushions. During the week it feels very calm but was quite busy over the weekend (as expected). Tuna Bay has a stretch of beach directly in front of the hotel but anyone can of course swim in front. We organised to go on the Rawa Island snorkling trip with Tuna Bay and it's an absolutely must. It was one of our highlights on our trip to Malaysia. You can also snorkel on the reef directly outside of the hotel and rent snorkel equipment for 10RM a day. The staff were helpful and did their best to make us comfortable. They also helped us organise our onward travel to Taman Negara. We had a great stay and can definitely recommend at a mid-priced option on Besar.

"Nice beach, good breakfast"

Tuna Bay Island Resort is a nice place to stay. My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights, after spending 3 nights at Bubbles resort on the south side of the island. I think a lot of people stay here because it's one of the only resorts with a decent website. But, you are paying a premium for their marketing. Tuna Bay is centrally located on the island which means it's really easy to hop around to different beaches, and there are multiple restaurant, snorkeling, and diving options. However, the location in between the two Perhentian islands, so you look across the beach to the other island and there is lots of boat traffic. The beach is lovely and there is some snorkeling right off the beach. The restaurant has a good breakfast which is included with the room. However don't just eat there every meal, there are other options a few steps away for significantly cheaper, such as Cocohut, where we ate most meals. My husband and I booked a super deluxe sea view chalet and we got room 5A. The room was clean and had good AC and hot water. For the super deluxe there is 1-5A which all have private balconies with lounge chairs just up from the beach. This was an excellent choice since we used the balcony all day as it was perfectly shaded. Now, rooms 1A, 2A and 3A are stand alone buildings, however 4A and 5A are attached together. So we ended up with a crying baby in the adjoining room for 2/5 nights and it was brutal. Also room 5A is at the far end of the resort and borders on a small restaurant/beach hut that likes to play really bad music very loudly. So, if you are going to go for the nice beach front room, I recommend requesting room 1A, 2A or 3A. These are definitely the best rooms at Tuna Bay. When coming and going from Kota Bharu airport you can book through the resort or find your own way. I recommend booking the ferry through your hotel and getting the land transfer on your own. From what I understand there is a standard price for the boat ride between the jetty and the islands, but the land transfer price can vary. You can take a taxi for 75MYR per car (not per person) to the jetty. If you book through Tuna it will be 80MYR per person. You can get free drinking water refills at the restaurant as long as you have your own bottle. You can book snorkel trip through the hotel, or many other places along the beach. Don't be shy to check out the prices and tour options at other spots. We did a 3 reef snorkel tour last minute through Suhaila Palace and ended up with a private boat for the same price as shared. We also did a snorkel trip out to Rawa Islands through Tuna Bay. Rawa island are a must do snorkel trip. For diving we went with Flora Bay Divers because they offered the Nitrox course and picked us up and dropped us off everyday for free. They were great, and it was nice to hangout at a different beach with different restaurant options for lunch. Tuna Bay was a great spot for a few days. We stayed 5 days, which was a lot. It's easy to switch hotels and try a different area so go for it if you have 4+ days in the Perhentians. The water taxis have standard rates so it's easy/cheap/fast to hop around.

"Time to put up your feet and do nothing"

We booked a full board 3d 2n package, was sceptical initially but was very happy with the food provided, especially dinner, it was definitely good way to end the day. 4 dishes + 1 soup to go with your rice, is just delicious amd plentiful, suited for asians. For non-locals, definitely not a bad place to enjoy pretty decent local food, given the circumstances. Breakfast is definitely a satisfying affair as well. Slight variations from previous days keep things less monotonous especially for those having a few nights stay. I love the beach. Although i have to admit we didn't get the best room with great view, well, someone has to get those rooms. Although i do wish they provide some discount for taking the rooms without beach view. Rooms are basic, spacious, but clean. Hot shower works well. Gave it 5* because of that additional effort to switch us to a different island hopping trip, despite our pre-booked package and the satisfying dinner. While full board package may not be necessary for most, it may be suitable for locals seeking short weekend getaway.

"A nice getaway"

Stayed for 4 days 3 nights at Tuna Bay Island Resort from 8-11 September 2017. From the start, the staff was wonderful starting with Jaa at customer service. Jaa helped me throughout my whims and fancies. Accommodating, attentive and understand my needs. Excellent service 5-star to her! On the island, the staff was also nice, as expected of Trengganu people. Surely holidaying at Trengganu is much better value for money than to Phuket or Krabi. The island hopping price is also reasonable in Tuna Bay Resort @ Pulau Perhentian. The only thing is how I wish there's TV and fridge in the room. Perhaps management can look into this especially when Redang Island has an offer hard to beat package. Nani Rasul
