"Lovely beach, excellent staff, nice food"

First of all, use the Tuna Bay boat transfer. You pay alittle bit more, but your luggage is loaded on and off the boat and taken to your room. It's big boat and so is safer and there is less turbulence. One speed boat capsized whilst we were there. I'm glad we used the safer boat. I also saw people who nearly dropped their heavy luggage into the sea whilst trying to board the speedboats. Food in the Tuna Bay is excellent, esp the chicken satay, curry beef and Indonesian pawns. Also the fried noodles. Yum. Service is excellent and your food arrive promptly and hot. Breakfast is also good. We ate at Abdul's one lunch time and regretted it. We had lunch one day at the cocohut. It's 50-50. So we ate at the Tuna Bay every meal after that. It's slight more expensive but still very affordable, i.e. Not too much hiking of prices, considering they have to bring everything in from the mainland, The staff were all very friendly and helpful. You get complementary bottles of water daily. But we didn't get a fridge in the standard rooms, so we just go to the restaurant and ask for glasses of ice and a cold drink. Just a few little niggles. Admin was a bit poor. I had paid a deposit for my rooms but the reception had to email headquarters for confirmation of this. The safe box in our room didn't work. Our toilet doesn't flush well. Although the maintenance man came to fix it, it still kept not flushing. We knew how to fill the tank up with water in order to flush. We reported these two niggles to reception. I hope they fixed them before the next guests. I would come again

"Great family spot on beautiful Perhentian Besar"

We spent a fantastic few days at Tuna Bay and had a lovely time. The bungalows are very nice, though quite basic for the price point. We had 2 interconnecting bungalows for our family of 2 adults and 3 kids, and this gave us plenty of room and a comfortable set up for our group. This is a fantastic location for a family trip, on a beautiful beach with its own reef right off the shore for snorkelling and a few pontoons and the jetty for jumping in fun. The restaurant is decent enough, and the included breakfast spread is not bad given the island location. Staff were all friendly and service was good. We arranged our transfer to and from Kota Bharu through Tuna Bay and while I'm sure it could be done a little cheaper independently, we were very happy with the transfer service and would definitely recommend it. Snorkelling trips arranged through Tuna Bay were also very good, especially the Rawa Island trip which I would highly recommend. The A/C worked far better in the children's room than in ours for some reason, and the water pressure in the showers was not strong. As others have quibbled, it would be nice to have cushions on the loungers. All in all though, we felt this was a great choice for our family and would recommend it.

"Quiet and relaxing retreat on the golden sands of Kuala Besar"

Fabulous location on a beautiful gold, sandy beach with protected tropical waters which you can snorkel. Range of compact bungalows that are well appointed and some at front with beach view. Pleasant service with restaurant and bar overlooking the water. Restaurant was a little average and overpriced. Great place to relax for a few days and explore the fabulous marine park via 1/2 day trips to snorkel or dive.

"Okay resort"

Everything is okay in this resort so it's rather 3,5 out of 5 but unfortunately only okay not perfect. We (family 2+2) spent one week here, ate mostly in Tuna Cafe (been also in Cocohut-terrible beef in oyster sauce and in Abdul's-not bad noodles) and went to Rawa Island snorkeling trip. Snorkeling in Rawa and also in front of Tuna is not bad but do not expect much esp. if you are an experienced snorkeler. Highlight was a few big Humphead Parrotfish in Rawa. Turtle point is close to Tuna but expect crowdy place. It might be nice experience when less people is there. I tried to see turtles early morning by my own also but I wasn't successful. + apparently well trained staff + fast service in restaurant + fast and efficient boat transfer, check-in + location (small reef in front of the hotel; nice beach towards to Abdul's chalets esp. during weekdays) + barbecue food in the restaurant plus chicken curry (the rest of the menu is just average but not bad) + they serve cold beer, wine and also some long drinks in the restaurant and the bar (not usual in Malaysia at all) - location (construction works next to resort, just between Tuna and Cocohut and this new building doesn't look well at all; it's sad view honestly - no fridge in the garden room - Wifi in the restaurant is very slow - The rooms in the garden are in the block so you can have up to five direct neighbors - you have to buy cushions because wooden sun beds on the beach are very uncomfortable

"Better than expected"

Everything at Tuna bay was better than I expected it to be.The accommodation while not 5 star was of a good standard. The food and service were both top notch. One has to remember everything has to be brought over by boat and there is a cost for this. Many thanks to Jimmy and Tony for all your help, much appreciated. Great place to chill out.
