"Very good hotel - no internet access in certain rooms"
Very good service and good facilities. I enjoyed the stay and the friendly staff. In the evening there is only buffet in the restaurant, but it looked really good. We had something smaller to eat in the Shisha bar which was totally ok. The only minus is that there was no internet access in the room. I overheard a guide saying that it only works in certain rooms, so you could ask for an internet room that at check-in I suppose. Hopefully they will fix that soon, the price is too high for a room without internet access.
"Great oasis in the hills near the old capital"
Clean room, comfy bed, hot showers. Meals probably 2-3 prices outside hotels in Muscat and no alternative cafes/restaurants near hotel to try, but still less than Radisson Blu in Muscat. Beautiful, reasonably-priced buffet on Christmas Eve, including roast turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce. Nice long pool, with diving board with a small sign in English and Arabic saying "No Diving" !
"Quality hotel but with service issues"
The Golden Tulip is an impressive building with a stunning swimming pool area. Housekeeping and Gardening are excellent but management lacking in Reception and F&B. Information available at Reception is not reliable and much could be done to improve the visitor experience. We had four nights here over Christmas. Breakfast was pretty basic buffet and repetitive. Arabic food offerings not authentic - all very poor. Our waiter Tej, from Nepal, was delightful but apart from him, we found little warmth or genuine welcome in the Front of House & F&B departments. Perhaps some competition would raise the standards of what could be a wonderful hotel? Rooms are super-large and spotless, if not perhaps 21st century. Tea and Coffee facilities in separate mini bar area. Beds could be more comfortable and choice of pillow fillings would be an upgrade, but we enjoyed the space and seating area a lot. There is a private outside porch for seating. Thank you for our special Anniversary cake awaiting our arrival on 22nd.
"Nice hotel with large pool area"
We enjoyed our 2 night stay as we relaxed from the mountain tour before. Kids enjoyed the great pool area with the wonderful trees. Hotel is a 20 min drive from Nizwa which is a great town with a fantastic souk and goat market. Hotel had a little party area with a singer in the evening, a shisha smoking area and a large dinner area. Overall we had a good stay and nothing to complain except a few minor things. Reception in hotel was not very guest friendly. I asked for second key for my wife and me which they did not give. The rooms are ok, beds were good but the toilets were worn down and stained in both rooms we booked. We did not complain as we stayed for 2 nights only but this should not be the way it is.
"Your colour matters in Golden Tulip"
My review focuses on the way people are treated when they want to use the facilities of this hotel. I live in Nizwa and always thought of Golden Tulip as the best hotel in town but I lost my trust in this brand when I was racially discriminated by the hotel when I applied to use their gym and pool service. Many of my colleagues have the subscription. Last week, I got the form from the receptionist to fill out. He gave me the form maybe because I look white and he did not know my nationality. When I returned the filled form, I was told that I would be contacted. After a week of not hearing from them, I went to inquire and I was told that I could not be given the subscription because "it is the peak season", which is their polite way of saying "we don't like your colour/country so bugger off". If peak period is the reason, then I should not have been given the form to fill out in the first place last week.In this same peak season two of my colleagues applied a week before me and were both given the subscription on the spot because they were both from Western countries. In short, if you're white or hold a passport of an Imperialist country, you'd be treated like royalty, otherwise don't expect much respect. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone and would avoid having anything to do with it in the future.
