Stayed here for three nights staff very helpful and friendly Excellent grounds well set out and peaceful atmosphere Our room was located next to the river Kwai, which was clean and adequate for our stay. outside seating for breakfast which was good, and food was good. Had an evening meal in the restaurant one of the nights but service was quite slow. Well signposted short cut to the bridge which was easy to find Good stay at this hotel would return Jack United Kingdom Jan 2017
"Older resort in a beautiful setting"
Having read some recent reviews about a dirty, unfriendly resort, I can only assume there are two, identically named resorts? The resort is located on the banks of the River Kwai, a stone's throw from the infamous bridge, itself accessible by walking a few hundred yards. Access by car requires a more circuitous route. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the setting wonderful. The buildings of the resort itself are indeed somewhat old, at a guess dating from the 1980s, but our rooms had been well refurbished, with brand new bathrooms. There were some issues, notably that the rooms are rather dark - stronger bulbs would be useful - in part due to the large covered balconies each room has. WiFi, as another reviewer commented, was patchy, though if the idea of a holiday is not to have one's nose pressed constantly to a screen, this is not a critical issue....... The hotel has a couple of restaurants, plus a floating restaurant used for special occasions such as Christmas Dinner. The food was well presented and costs were in line with this sort of resort, though the Chinese restaurant appeared a little pricey. Drinks were inevitably quite expensive, and obviously considerably more than at the local 7/11, but this must be expected in almost any hotel or restaurant.. The hotel has two pools, one for families and another lap pool, which we found little used and thus nicer for those wishing to sit quietly. Service we found excellent, reception staff being polite and helpful, if a little stressed at book in due to the volume of Christmas arrivals. The guest relations manager was very visible and a most helpful, charming lady. A car or other transport is needed if you wish to get into the town, especially at night, and there are other restaurants in the area. There is however, no need to move from the resort. Overall, an excellent experience and we will visit again.
Hotel is old fashioned but charming. Room we stayed in was very worn, bed was ok. Breakfast buffet was good, nice selection. Pool is the best thing about this hotel, large and exotic, good for swimming and playing.
"Overpriced, dated and in need of a lot of work - not 4 star at all"
This had all the makings of being a great place to be - sadly this turned out not to be the case. It's a little bit difficult to find and is almost off the beaten track (by road) but the resort covers a large area with 250 rooms set in and around gardens on the banks of the river Kwai. A short walk with a handy shortcut (not to be used at night) past the temple and Chinese soldiers memorial and you find yourself at the infamous bridge. The reception staff need to undergo some training on how to greet people and the check in check out was brusque without a hello, thank you or a goodbye. This was booked as a special event celebration and we were very, very disappointed that the dining experience on the banks of the river advertised on their website was not available (closed). However, the duty manager did as much as he could to make amends by providing us with a free three course Thai speciality dinner - we just had to pick up the drinks bill - which was not cheap! We booked a junior suite but to be honest, one of the normal rooms probably would have sufficed - the suite is over two floors up some very steep stairs which make taking your cases up to the bedroom a little impractical. The balcony upstairs is particularly dangerous if you have kids or, as an adult are not careful - it's way too low and easy to fall over and is a post and rail type with large holes for kids to fall through. The bathroom was very tired with mould and damp patches everywhere and the overall feeling of the room is a bit gloomy with dark wood. The shower facilities need updating as the water went everywhere regardless of where the shower curtain was. The downstairs toilet was also very tired and only one tap was working. The suite came with an adjoining door to the next room which was unfortunate for us as the family next door had some pretty restless kids (noisy until all hours) and the sound proofing of the rooms generally is poor as everything could be heard. Breakfast was a bit of a "bun fight" and table allocation was just a free for all - the breakfast food was poor and not up to international standards. The only saving grace of this trip was the duty manager who was very apologetic for the closed river dining event and the concierge staff who were fairly friendly - unlike the reception staff who went out of their way to make it clear we were doing them a favour by staying at the hotel. - Would I stay again - too expensive and dated - definitely not!
"5 star location but 3 star service"
This resort is situated at a very handy and beautiful location by the river. The hotel ground is large and spacious. There is one large pool with the kid area and small pool for serious swimmers. The resort overall is definitely dated and a bit dirty, so are the pools and our room. The service is the worst part. The staffs are friendly but unfortunately useless and donot have enough local knowledge to help us much. Mr. Google was far more useful. We had buffet breakfast which was ok quality but the premium price. A can of beer costs 80 baht but I can get it for 40 at a store 100 meters from the resort. The wifi was also awfully unreliable, make sure you have sufficient mobile data for googling if staying here.
