"Good enough for the Princess"
Pimalai was the best place that we stayed on our trip around Thailand. Very relaxing and quiet place if that is what you are looking for at the end of a trip. One of Thailand's Princesses (the current King's daughter) was staying there and it was apparently not her first visit which must be a good sign. The resort has 90 or so rooms but it is very spread out so it did not ever feel crowded other than maybe peak times at the spa and breakfast. We stayed down by the beach in a beach villa with its own pool and view over the beach to the sea which was amazing. Since we had our own pool I am not sure if the main pool chairs get snagged first thing in the morning but it kind of looked like that from the breakfast areas. The beach is beautiful but not clear blue water and white sand if that is what you are looking for. We ate at two of the hotel's restaurants and they were both great (Raktalay at beach level and Banyan Tree higher up). We did not eat at their fancier restaurant called Seven Seas since it has somewhat of a dress code. Same Same But Different is a great local restaurant right on the sand and right next to the resort. We had lunch there almost every day and dinner once. It is short walk to 7/11 if you want to buy beer or other items. The spa was also very nice but crowded in the reception and post treatment areas.
"Truly above & beyond, in every aspect! "
I am currently four nights into a seven night stay here at the Pimalai Resort & Spa with my boyfriend. We initially booked this place a few months ago based on the exceptional reviews, in addition to Koh Lanta sounding like a bit of a hidden gem! This is my first ever experience of Thailand, and although we are going onto several other hotels after this week, (not in Koh Lanta), I am already concerned that they won’t compare to how truly magical this place is. Transfer & check-in The transfers are complimentary which is such a huge positive, as I believe this would be extremely costly should you have to arrange it yourself. The greeting we received at the airport was wonderful, we were helped with our bags into a large air conditioned van, and provided with chilled water. 45 minutes later you’re at the jetty, and being helped onto the boat. The staff onboard were so friendly, and pointed out lots of points of interest throughout the journey and let us sit upfront to take in all of the wonderful views. You arrive at the beach of the hotel, where we were greeted by a lovely smiley lady who adorned us in fresh flower necklaces and drove us up for a very stress-free check in. Whilst there, we were provided with fresh chilled drinks and towels, which was extremely welcomed after nearly 20 hours of travelling! We were then escorted to our room where we were showed around and any information on how to work things, etc, was given. The room The room itself is lovely, although we are on the lower hillside, we can easily be on the beach, at the Spa, at the lobby, the pool and the Spice & Rice restaurant for breakfast within one minute. I can see the sea from our balcony and bathroom window, it’s simply beautiful. The AC is effective, I don’t find it particularly loud, it almost sounds like waves rolling in, it’s quite therapeutic. I would rather it be louder but working well, than the opposite! Robes & slippers are provided, use of a wicker beach bag during your stay, and bottled water is replaced free of charge everyday. We’ve also had our basket of fruit and cookies replenished once already, so yummy! Food & restaurants Breakfast for us is at the Spice & Rice Restaurant, and I think it’s brilliant. It’s extensive, and caters for everyone’s needs and preferences. On our first morning I was presented with a birthday cake and all of the staff singing to me, which was just such a wonderful surprise! They were ever so kind, I was honestly very touched. We’ve eaten dinner at the same restaurant twice now, which was lovely. The Thai dance show was just fabulous, we really enjoyed it! Lunch at the beach restaurant is gorgeous, as are the cocktails during Happy Hour there! The views are simply breathtaking and the staff down there are absolutely outstanding. The prices are high for both food and drink, but I think that you surely expect them to be at a 5* Resort. There are so many other things that are complimentary, for example, the transfers, that I think it balances itself out. That being said, within a five minute stroll down the beach, you can find several bars and restaurants, that offer lovely authentic Thai food for much lower prices. There is often live music, and last night there was fire breathing and poi, it was wonderful! The beach Okay so I love the beach and Kan Tiang Beach is gorgeous. There is always sun loungers and towels provided, free water is served and replenished, and there is use of non-motorised water activities, such as paddle boards and kayaks. I have stayed at many 5* beach fronted resorts where none of the above has been provided. The sea itself is warm, where the waves roll in it looks a little murky but it’s just sand! It’s clear when you get past that. The undercurrent is quite strong though, or at least, it has been when we’ve been in there, so just be aware, especially if you’ve got young children who aren’t confident in the sea. Other reviews have mentioned rocks, but it’s very easy to find a section without them! Facilities and resort in general The two infinity pools are just divine! The views are honestly incredible. Again, sun loungers are available, towels are not only provided but laid out for you, and water is kept topped up during the day. Even the toilets are lovely and kept very clean! If you go to the lobby they arrange for you to be driven up to the hillside pool, every time we’ve wanted to do this so far, we have waited no more than a minute. There’s also a library with a range of books and DVDs to be borrowed which I think is a really nice touch. The setting of the resort is what truly makes it so very special. I think you’d be hard pushed to find anywhere else quite like this in the world. My words couldn’t possibly do it justice, you need to come and see it for yourself! I wasn’t expecting it to be so authentic, but I’m SO pleased it is. The grounds are kept immaculately considering just how much of it there is to look after! We are loving just strolling around and taking it all in. Staff So I truly think that Thai people are the nicest, kindest and friendliest people that I’ve ever had the honour of meeting. Everyone from the moment we arrived has been more than happy to help us with any type of request. They are attentive without being over-bearing, which is a very difficult thing to get right. Their English, on the whole, is very impressive. I have been asking them to help me learn Thai phrases, it’s definitely still a work in progress, but they’ve been more than happy to oblige! :-) I personally feel that the only slight negative that I’ve come across so far is that sometimes I’ve noticed an odd smell wafting around. I noticed it in our room this morning too. It’s almost like a drainage smell, it isn’t particularly pleasant, but it also isn’t a constant smell at all, and before you know it, it’s gone again. Perhaps it’s where we are being positioned on the lower part of the resort, I’m not sure. To summarise - We love it here! In fact, my boyfriend loved it so much that he decided to propose to me whilst we were watching the sun rise on the beach the other morning...! We were the only people down there, it was so romantic and a perfect setting. This place will truly always have a special place in our hearts, and we will certainly be back.. maybe even for the wedding..! â¤ï¸ Thank you everyone at the Pimalai who work so hard to make it the glorious place that it is.
"Corner of Paradise "
We've just left Pimalai and have nothing but great feedback on the property. Amazing room, very spacious and luxury. Breathtaking views from the pool and amazing beach. There are also few options around if you do not want to eat and drink in the hotel all the time (prices are in line with a luxury 5* hotel). Nearby restaurant on the beach called Same Same But Different offers gourmet Thai cuisine at its finest. I loved Pimalai, a truly amazing experience.
Phenomenal stay....Enjoyed every minute of it. Where do I start? Its difficult, as the place is too good to even describe by words. Excellent facilities. It is best to be experienced. We are seasoned travellers and we have travelled the world over the past 25 years....travelling to all continents and having stayed in a large number of facilities. Clearly Pimalai Resorts and Spa outshone every other place we have stayed in, in every department. The rooms are good sized, well appointed, super comfy beds, a very nice private balcony and excellent beverages in the room. The washroom is very nice. And the Housekeeping is really great....very responsive and every thing in the room is quality. The breakfast is simply excellent. I would like to compliment the chefs for a phenomenal menu, great variety and excellent to taste, apart from a very wide choice of fruits and fresh juices. A great job done. My wife is a pure vegetarian. However the chef took pains to come to our table especially made vegetarian delicacy. We were so touched by their concern. The beachside facilities including Kayaking, snorkelling etc are free and really enjoyable. Apart from the location, the beach is very beautiful, fine white sands and no rocks. The restaurants have befitting ambience and have excellent views...esp The Seven Seas. We enjoyed the Pimalai Signature massage at the Spa. It was an outstanding experience....excellent and professional massage by trained personnel. Every detail at Pimalai has been looked into....the staff is very responsive, swift in action, very courteous and I would not do justice if I do not praise them enough. The lobby is excellent and a very helpful Front desk. We really appreciate the management's hard work and the efforts, the pains they took to ensure that every guest was most comfortable. Though I did not meet the manager, I would have liked to convey my appreciation for their high standards and competence, personally. We will like to come back to Pimalai for sure, after all you made our vacations a "dream holiday". Thank you for every thing and just keep up the good work. Please convey are sincere thanks, regards and compliments to all members of the Pimalai Team. They are doing a great job and we wish them well. Dr sanjay Khanna and Dr Jasmeet Khanna.
"Gorgeous resort, worth the splurge! "
Wow the resort is just stunning!! We debated a few hotels on Koh Lanta and decided to splurge on this one - 100% worth it! Location was perfect for us. It’s situated on the beach within walking distance to other restaurants and bars (see my reviews of Pad Thai Rock and Roll and Why Not bar). In terms of activities, Pimalai has some complimentary rentals. We took the paddle boards out one day and laid out on the cabanas the rest of the day. They also provide a bunch of other activities for additional cost. We did the sunset tour to Koh Haa and it was amazing!! They take you out from their private Jetty so it’s super convenient. There’s two snorkel spots and then you relax on the boat with wine and beer and canapés while watching the sun set! Seemed a bit pricey at first, but it was totally worth it. We debated doing the full day snorkel to two islands. You can’t go wrong but I think we made the right choice given that we only had two full days in Lanta In terms of the property, there are multiple restaurants (see my review of Spice and rice!) and bars on the property all with amazing views. The two infinity pools each have amazing amenities and views too! The daily included breakfast is also wonderful, great selection and amazing views. Oh and transportation to the resort was a BREEZE. They pick you up from the airport and while the journey to Koh Lanta can be quite long (2 hours by car and boat), they make it seamless and relaxing!! Looking back, that was a huge benefit and service that is included by the hotel. Will never forget this place!
