"2 days in koh Tao "

   19-10-2017
Myself and my girlfriend spent 2 days in koh Tao in the Haadtien Resort and all I can say is I wish we were there for longer. It was amazing, everything about the resort was top class from arrival, to the beautiful little rooms, amazing pool and beach, the staff were so so nice and so helpful and the food was excellent. We also went diving there and the instructer was so good and so patient with us. Definately worth doing if you're staying there. It's a 10 minute taxi to Sairee Beach

"Amazing sunset cruise & great resort"

   14-10-2017
We slept for 4 days at this resort. At first we didnt receive the right accomodation. But later we did, next to the beach. The view was amazing and the location gourgious. De accomodation was okay. We had a muscito net around our bed, not really comfortabel and it didnt work. De customer care at the resort is very good and the staff is very kindfull and helpfull. The breakfast buffet is great and actended. But the most amazing experience was the sunset cruise with a big old ship. We receive a private deck upstairs with own service. Tasty wine and some food and enjoy the view around the island. The sunset was beautyful. We really recommend this trip at the haadtien!

"Missed potential - please don't be swayed by false marketing"

   05-10-2017
Sadly, this resort was the biggest negative of my trip to Thailand with my husband and 2 of our friends. Truly a let down in comparison to the other amazing resorts where we stayed throughout the rest of the country. And the saddest part is that with an amazing beach location like this, there is so much missed potential!! I feel that the marketing of this resort online is very misleading, and we were all shocked at the state of the resort when we arrived. I'm also perplexed at the number of very positive reviews for this resort, as I'm a very open-minded traveler and I struggled to find the positives here. For what it's worth, we were advised by the manager during our first breakfast that the resort was recently under new management (as of July 2017), and he is 'working out kinks'. Not something you want to hear during your first breakfast... Our less than stellar experience started when we were shoved into one of the resort's open air buses at the ferry terminal, and as the last one to board the bus, I was forced to sit on my husband's lap because there was not ample space. The ride is a bit rough and steep to the resort, so it wasn't a pleasant experience! Beach Bungalows - Fast forward to our introduction to our 'luxury beachfront bungalows' which were anything but. Outside: The beach here is a public beach, and the tourists who pay to come to the beach take that very literally - they will be parked immediately outside your bungalow and possibly even sitting on your furniture, completely ignoring the "Private" signs in front of each one! If you're really lucky like we were, their bathing gear will be strewn across your lounge chairs and hanging from the palm trees in front of your bungalow!! Inside: very dark - our dimmer switch to the main set of lights was broken, so we went through our entire 4 night stay barely being able to see in front of our faces - we were using flashlights. Our friends in a neighboring bungalow did not have a broken dimmer switch, but their lights were as dim as ours. The shades on one side of the bungalow are locked for privacy, so you cannot open them for more light. The shower floor has open slats to the ground, and the door to the shower does not go all the way to the ceiling, so mosquitos are welcomed into your room! There is a mosquito net, which is nice and thick, thank goodness. However, the throw pillows are stained with small spots of blood, which I'm guessing are from misfortunate mosquitos who have met untimely ends. The staff never once re-filled our mini-fridge with fresh drinks, and on most days, we had to call for them to service our rooms. Finally - the resort is powered by generators - be prepared for your power to shut off multiple times a day with no warning. According to management, this is normal here. Especially great when you're in the dark shower with 1,000 of your closest mosquito buddies. The bungalow roofs are thatch - there was one downpour while we were here that lasted ~1 hour, and our bungalow roof, as well as that of our friends, leaked in multiple places. Lots of great potential with the location of these bungalows, but they need better maintenance. Grounds, generally - They are very shabby and not well kept, even to the extent that wires, hoses, pipes are exposed in certain areas of the property as you're walking along the paths. One morning we noticed that an island dog had dug a massive hole behind our bungalow and exposed a bunch of power cables! The bathrooms near the pool and those near the restaurant give off a very strong, unpleasant sewage odor. The pool was filthy - you can see the haziness of the water and the layers of sunscreen, etc. And it's black, which in a hot climate, probably wasn't the best design choice - even walking on the pool ledge will burn your feet, so be careful! Restaurant - We only ate at the main restaurant for breakfast. The buffet breakfast is adequate, but they don't make enough efforts to keep foods cold. For example, I grabbed some yogurt one day, and it was warm and spoiled, and the cheeses looked like they had seen better days. They also don't make enough of an effort to control the flies or mosquitoes - even a few fans over and near the food would go a long way, I think. We chose not to eat here for dinner, because their food is very overpriced, and there are much better options off the resort. We did utilize the beach bar for snacks and smoothies - the smoothies are made with fresh fruit/veggies and were delicious. Dive shop - a bit of a cluster here too. We had emailed them several weeks in advance of our arrival to see if we needed to reserve spots on their dive boat. We were told no and 'just sign up when you arrive.' We went to the shop immediately upon our arrival, and were told there were no spots open the next day. To say we were angry and disappointed to miss a day of diving is an understatement, because we had traveled a long way from the US and the only reason we came to Koh Tao was to go diving!! Also - they contract their dive masters and instructors, which seemed strange to us. What that means to experienced divers is that you'll likely have more dive experience than the dive masters who are on the boat with you. Our primary dive master who was with us for 3 days had only been diving for 4 months! On one particular dive, the dive masters did not properly handle a dangerous current situation, and there was one novice diver in our group who had a very bad dive experience because of it. Beach/bay - Like I mentioned before, this cove is really stunningly beautiful, especially in the mornings when there are not a lot of folks out and about. There were a lot of small stinging jellyfish while we were here in August, so I recommend a dive skin or board shirt to avoid the stings. Also - if you want the best snorkeling experience, go early in the morning before all of the boats start dumping large groups of outside snorkelers in the water. I was lucky enough to see a very old, very large sea turtle, as well as a juvenile blacktip reef shark one morning. Transport - not easy. Taxis are usually not readily available and need to be called by the resort - you'll want to negotiate your rate. If a taxi is not available, the resort will take you into one of the towns for a cost of 100-150 Baht/person. In a nutshell, if you're backpacking, Haadtien is a top notch beach resort on Koh Tao, but if you are looking for a 4 or 5 star resort (which we were supposed to have), this is not where you will find it. Better property maintenance and thoughtfulness about small things like fly/mosquito deterrents would go a long way at this resort.

"4 Nights at Haadtien Beach Resort"

   01-10-2017
Tonight is our last night at this beautiful resort, which have spent four days. We would like to say a special thank you to Tongta in reception for her quick and efficient help and friendly nature, she has made us feel very welcome. All the staff have been very friendly. For those thinking this resort may be out of the way, it is not, just rent a scooter or use the shuttle supplied to explore this beautiful island, using this lovely resort as your home to return to Vincent Black NZ
