"Wonderful moment "
This was our second time here. We stayed in a beachfront villa which had a nice view facing to the sea. The outdoor terrace was perfect to read and enjoy your moment. Coming here took quite a long time but it’s worth. We catched the plane from Bangkok to Samui, then took a taxi to a pier and took the boat to Koh Tao island. The staff was waiting for us at the pier. We could just swim and do snorkeling rightbin front of us. We saw corals, several kinds of fish and of course, a big sea turtle!! We will certainly come back here again.
"Keep coming back but room for improvement"
We just came back from our second trip to Haad Tien Beach Resort in 6 months time. Overall it has been a great experience, let's do the pro and cons. Pro's : -check in was smooth, especially like the Burmese luggage boys they really pushed to check us in on time. -rooms are cozy, bedding is great, sure shower water system could be a bit better with longer running hot water (turns lukewarm quite quick) but ok. -private beach is fantastic, the water is just beautiful sure alot of dead coral but plenty of sealife to see , never get bored snorkeling around but you have to get out a bit further if you want to see turtles and sharks. Con's : Service is not very good and needs to be addressed. We get that staff changes all the time and especially good staff when underpayed don't stick around but it starts from the top with a good manager who is on top of things. Mainly the Insea and Capri restaurants need better manage with staff who are better trained. Food and cocktails are so so for the price payed. If you are gonna pay 200-300 baht for a basic dish it better be very tasty but most food tasted was sub standard. The breakfast buffet is ok really, some variety there but i imagine if you are paying for a beachfront bungalow you might expect a little better quality. All in all we really like the resort and some of the more experienced staff and we will definitely be back. Hopefully these points will be addressed. Oh and for people not staying at the resort and complaining about paying to stay on the beach, what a joke. This is a private pristine beach that is there for the resort guests, the resort wants it to remain exclusive, you want to stay in another part of island but enjoy this beach? You should pay and not complain. Thanks for having us Haad Tien!
"Lovely resort in beautiful, scenic surroundings!"
Secluded, very picturesque. Relaxing, not too many kids, no noisy party people, just perfect for a romantig getaway. Rent a motorbike to explore the island, or just hang out on the beach or by the pool. Also perfect for snorkeling and kayaking. Go here to recharge, preferably not to party. We had a great holiday here!
"Extremely rude guest relations staff"
I am leaving one star due to how we were treated upon checking in. Arrival: We had called a few days before to check on the hotel pick up the car; they had informed us it was a van but it was an open-air bus. Now normally this wouldn’t have bothered us but it was Songkran- Thai New Year (I’ve lived here a long time and my husband is Thai) so if we would have known this we would have prepared the appropriate clothes and wrapped our luggage. Since we were informed it would be a van we did not. Even the other guests on the bus did not know, many of the guests including our luggage were soaked, my electronics were wet luckily not damaged. The buses had clear plastic roll down sides for rain but the drivers did not think to put them down. Check-in: when we arrived at the resort I felt like I was cattle being herded into and forced into a small reception on a very hot day. The woman who was guest relations and in charge of the reception Eiei (this was the name the staff told me) to take care of us, rather she was extremely rude and again treated is like cattle and little kids. She was trying to explain some information about the hotel shuttle and taxi but all the guests were busy filling in the check-in forms. So she became annoyed that we were not listening to her and trying to speak with the staff about check-in and our rooms. She was angry the staff was not translating in Thai as they were trying to help the guests first and she cannot speak Thai but bragged about how she is bilingual. She then yelled at the Thai staff in front of the guests because they were not translating her information while trying to assist us. She stopped and yelled something along the lines “I will not speak anymore no one is listening and no one can speak English here†well I can my husband who is a doctor can and so can the other foreign guests. Also, the Thai guests who were there we could see were offended as they are educated and can speak English and other languages. When we confronted her she still was rude and basically refused to treat us as a hotel guest but rather some scum who should be lucky to stay at the resort. She spoke very loudly just below a tone of yelling at us saying well check in is not until 2 PM and is 11 AM now. My husband and I walked away very upset to get away from this very rude and disrespectful woman and yet she still tried to confront us even when I said leave us alone, only speak to us if your GM is present with you. She could not understand everyone checking in was soaking wet and everyone wanted to at least dry off and change. No, she just wanted to treat us like children and not a hotel guest. This was not a warm welcome at all. We have stayed in small rugged hotels and 5-star hotels and never once were we tested so rudely by any staff until we arrived at this resort. Luckily after we finished and went to the spa to get a massage, the spa staff was very kind. We were informed it was by booking only but the staff allowed us to use a vacant therapy room to dry off, change, and check on our luggage. She even allowed us to leave it there to dry out until our room was ready at 2 PM -The rest of the staff at the resort was very kind and helpful. -The rooms are quite nice and just a 1-2 minute walk to the beach. -The resort is very clean. -The food is edible and average at best so do not expect much. -The view is very beautiful with a “private†style beach. It is considered private as the hotel owns the land in front of the beach. -If you want to leave the resort area it’s not too far to go to the main areas but it’s a lot of hills.
"Beautiful resort, badly managed. "
Ok, first the positives. The private beach is stunning, one of the best we have visited. The pool is idillic and there are plenty of loungers to laze your day away on. The villas are basic but beautiful and the whole resort has a real luxury feel. You can snorkel freely in the waters and hire a boat right on the beach. We were blown away by the setting when we arrived which is truly picturesque. So now the issues. The food is of a low standard (apart from the capris restaurant which we discovered a little too late in our stay). The main restaurant and beach bar food was awful! The cocktails became a running joke... there appears to be only one recipe which is repeated whatever drink you order! We had to laugh every time the same drink arrived with a different name! The service is poor. It’s tough to order in the first place and when you do it rarely turns up. My husband spent half his time running round after waiters asking where our drinks or food were. I’m so disappointed to be writing this review. For the higher price we expected far more. We love Thailand and have visited lots of the country and always been very very well looked after with more than friendly staff and fantastic service.
