We are very lucky in that we have enjoyed many safaris, ranging from very basic accommodation up to 5* in Sabi Sands. Having enjoyed self drive in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park we decided to treat ourselves to some luxury at Rhino Ridge. We were not disappointed. The lodge is very modern, which we like. It doesn’t have the rustic African feel of some lodges. The public areas are gorgeous, spacious, clean and with amazing views of the park. Lovely open fire when you return from your evening game drive in winter. The rooms are also very spacious and clean with comfortable beds and a private terrace. The food was superb, the best we have had at any game lodge. Breakfasts cooked fresh to order and a choice of starters and mains at dinner always including a veggie option. The staff are, without exception, excellent. Friendly and efficient, you never had to ask for anything twice. Whoever has trained the team has got it absolutely right. The game drives were good, some better than others. We didn’t see leopard but then we hadn’t really expected this (go to Sabie Sands) but we saw just about everything else including African Painted Dogs, rhinos in abundance as well as lots of giraffe, zebra etc. I like the way that even when you are just a couple they keep you with your Ranger rather than amalgamate groups. We would certainly return. Two things perhaps need looking at. Hot water not really plentiful at all times in the room and lots of scurrying/wings flapping in the eaves of the roof. Didn’t bother us but others we spoke to were not so relaxed. Well done Rhino Ridge!
"One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in"
As part of a 2 week trip, my husband and I couldn't wait to get to Rhino Ridge and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly special. Spah the Lodge Manager greeted us and introduced us to the lodge and our room. I was so impressed that he knew our names and remembered them throughout our stay, its personal touches like this that really make you feel like a guest and not just a number. A true highlight of our stay was Hala our guide. He was incredible with his knowledge and did everything in his power to ensure we had some fantastic sightings of the animals. He was friendly and so happy, a lovely smile and I really think he made such a difference to our trip. The food was amazing and one night we were treated to some singing as it was another guests birthday. I'm so pleased we got to watch and hope they do that more they are very talented performers. The staff could not do enough for you and I really felt special for the whole time I was there. We were already planning our next visit to the lodge and we haven't even left yet. Incredible scenery, amazing people and a stay we will never ever forget. Thank you Rhino Ridge, you couldn't of done any more for us. I've travelled quite a lot and I can't honestly this is the best experience I've ever had from a hotel.
"A Slice of Heaven!"
The ldige is amazing! The staff are highly trained and professional! The focus is on the customer and they performed admirably! The massage service was fantastic! The food was very good! Maybe slightly larger portions could be served? The rooms were gorgeous and very comfortable! You almost forget that you're on a safari! I highly recommend this lodge! I had a memorable and enjoyable experience! The game drives were well planned and ran according to schedule! My guide was Hala and he clearly knew a lot about the animals in the park and was well versed in his profession! The staff were great and always in a good mood! Very eager to help and engage the clients which is very hard to find! Lunch should be served earlier and the afternoon game drive should be bumped up to 1430 with an end time of 1530. The dinner festivities should start at 2100 and be announced at the start of dinner and mentioned upon check-in. At 2100 most people will have finished their lovely dining experience and can sit back and enjoy the singing and dancing without being distracted. Job well done!
"Wonderful setting and friendly staff"
We stayed for 4 days at Rhino Ridge in May and what a wonderful place. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The facilities were very good and the game drives excellent. I can certainly recommend that you visit
This was our first visit to Hluhluwe iMfolozi reserve despite us living in KZN and we could not have chosen a better lodge to experience the park from. We spend a few weeks every year in the Kruger National Park and private lodges in Sabi Sands Reserve and all i can say is that Rhino Ridge Lodge is on a par with the accommodation on offer in Sabi Sands The rooms have a king size bed and seating area with a double sided fireplace that backs on to the bathroom. Gown and slippers are provided and coffee making facility. The bathroom has double basins and an oval bath with a huge rain shower which has a door that opens to the deck. When left open during a shower it almost feels like you are out in the bush. A word of caution if you are in room 2, despite a fair distance between the rooms which are almost private, should you wish to be intimate in the shower with the shower door to the deck open and you are vocal, rest assure you will be heard in room 3. The deck offers stunning views over the park and be sure to take binoculars with. We saw rhino, buffalo, impala, Nyala, giraffe and elephant. There were no more than 6 on the game drive vehicles which left plenty space to relax while looking for game. The rangers will go out of their way to find one of the "cats". The reserve is not as prolific as Sabi Sands with their leopard sightings and KNP for Lion but our ranger managed to get us our lion sighting. Food was fantastic and service on the whole was excellent. Top tip - get a massage at their spa. This was one of the best full body massages I have had and I have had many to compare it to. The lodge is value for money and we most definitely will be back.
