Over The Peech Hotel

"Beautiful place, great service"
Located in the Melrose area, about a ½ hour drive from O.R. Trambo airport, The Peech is a calm and tranquil oasis. The lobby, small bar, business center, and meeting rooms are located in the original colonial house that is the property's hub. There are a couple of rooms above the lobby, but the remaining 14 rooms are scattered throughout the beautifully landscaped grounds in 2-story buildings and are appropriately called "Garden Rooms." The Peech's excellent service started even before we arrived, with staff emailing in response to 2 requests we had: 1. Since we would be landing at 9:30pm (after the hotel restaurant was closed) could we have a fruit and cheese plate placed in our room on arrival; and 2. Could the hotel arrange a tour of the center city and the Maboneng Precinct for us. Elmarie and Charmaine, who we had the pleasure of meeting while at The Peech, promptly and cheerfully took care of both requests. Cheese, fruit, and bottles of purified water were in our room when we arrived -- along with wine and long-stemmed yellow roses! Elmarie and Charmaine went out of their way to find us an excellent tour guide, Mmesi, who was very familiar with the areas we were interested in seeing -- and who suggested several additional sites that we would not have ferreted out on our own, but thoroughly enjoyed. Our ½ day private tour was only $100 USD, a bargain for the informative and enjoyable experience we had with Mmesi. The Peech is a short walk -- and even shorter drive -- drive to Melrose Arch, a commercial development of varied shops and restaurants sure to fit every budget and taste. On our second night at The Peech, we decided to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant. Medium in size, the restaurant has both indoor and patio seating, is dimly lighted, and very reasonably priced. We had tomato and paprika soup, cajun chicken in garlic butter sauce with potatoes fondant (R130, at about 14 Rand to 1USD), and beef fillet with cauliflower puree and potatoes fondant (R175). All very, very delicious! The bar adjacent to the restaurant is quite small, but very attractive and very well-stocked. And the staff tending bar know how to make a proper cocktail. Wines offered are mostly South African. All we tried were excellent. The hotel breakfast offerings were plentiful and beautifully served. Fruit, juices, cereals, yogurts, and croissants were laid out on a long table for guests to help themselves. In addition, you're given a menu and invited to order eggs, French toast, or an English breakfast, which are made-to-order and served by highly efficient and super friendly staff. Not to be overlooked is The Peech's landscaping. The property is filled with incredibly lush and impeccably maintained gardens, including a kitchen garden of herbs and lettuces. You could spend the whole day admiring the flowers and never want to leave! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Peech and would recommend it without hesitation. Thank you Mr. Peech and The Peech staff!!
"Comfortable home from home"
Subdued colonial ambience in a beautifully treed property. Away from the razzamatazz of Sandton this offered us a tranquil place to stay for a week. The staff were really helpful and friendly - the big smiles won us over every morning.
"One nite stand"
Hotel has beautiful location and grounds, great breakfast, large rooms & bathroom and tub to boot! Didn't spend enough time there to better appreciate the offerings. Customer service was top of the line. Ground floor unit was easy to get to and well laid out.
"Beautiful quiet place"
I really enjoyed my stay in this quiet place. It has a beautiful garden and a phenomenal breakfast. A lovely and cute cat named "Pepper" and very friendly staff. Good Quality and Price. The area is in a nice neighborhood and a there is a nice park.
"A Little Bit of Paradise"
This was my first trip to Africa, and sad to say but before leaving home I had been cautioned that Johannesburg was not a safe place to be and it was suggested that we not stay but continue on to our next destination. All of our arrangements were made by an agency, therefore we had no idea what to expect. We arrived in the early evening and while passing through the city in route to our hotel we became anxious about what our final destination would be like. But passing through the gates at The Peech Hotel was like passing through the portals of paradise. It was a refreshing contrast. It was obvious that every effort was made for our comfort and pleasure. The room was spacious, with everything we needed including a balcony overlooking the courtyard garden. The food prepared to perfection. The staff courteous and very accommodating. And the best nights sleep of the trip. I really didn't want to leave. The Peech Hotel is very much the place to stay should Johannesburg be your destination.
