"cosy place to stay in franschhoek"
this hotel is small and cosy, like a little colonial hub tucked away in the mountains. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A free shuttle is provided in to and back from the small main street, about 10 mins away. The breakfast is a decent spread, but the restaurant food is average, better to eat in the town. There are excellent restaurants there, or even go to the vineyards. Cleanliness in the rooms is not up to par, it needs to be more thorough. Generally the hotel is safe, but still keep all the valuables locked away.
"Excellent service and stay"
We stayed here while we attended a friends wedding in the wine estate next door. Hotel was very comfortable and clean, Staff were very helpful at all times. Just to note that the hotel is about a 5 minute drive out of the town, the hotel are great at arranging taxis back into town when needed. The hotel pool is very nice and easy to relax at and large enough to do a few lengths of it. Hotel was very good at booking taxis back into town. My partner got her nails done in the Spa and enjoyed it. The room was very spacious and clean, the view from our room was amazing. The Breakfast was lovely and was plentiful with lots of choices
"A stay in what should be a great Hotel tarnished by a botched reception ."
We arrived and were welcomed by friendly staff and were informed that we had been upgraded to a suite. So far so good. Shown to our suite which seemed fine. However on turnng off the A/c we noticed a terrific buzz coming from we assumed was the minibar. But no -- concealed behind the tv cupboard was what looked like the hotels entire wifi system with a fan unit and, worse, a beep which sounded every 20 seconds or so! When we asked for another room without this noise we were moved somewhat reluctantly to a dank smelling cottage which appeared to have been unused for some time--all the curtains were closed in broad daylight!- and had a mini size double bed in a tiny bedroom. Discussions with a graceless receptionist ( charm school required) who was obviously outside her comfort zone but who after discussions with 'my manager' found us a nice room with a balcony. However all this somewhat tarnished the first impressions and wasted a lot of time! Things improved. All the other staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful . The hotel needs someone with an eye for detail. Little things such as loo roll holders with only one supporting screws when there should be two, chrome taps but brass plug holes, doors which have had new locks put on them but all the signs of the old ones ( and the holes) remain, discoloured grouting in showers, one or two missing tiles on stair risers etc indicate that the hotel needs a bit of a makeover. These are tiny things but they create an impression .A pity because this could be a terrific place to stay.
Attended a conference at the venue. What a stunning location. Morning and tea snacks could have been laid out a bit better. Got a bit noisy at times when vehicles drove past. Lunch was really good. Location is top class. Staff were high caliber as well.
"Pleasant Franschoek Retreat"
Lovely hotel, spacious airy rooms in old thatched homestead. Good facilities with an outdoor pool. Has it's own restaurant 'Dish' - we didn't eat there only because the choice in Franschoek is extensive. One thing to note - this Hotel is 3.5Km outside the town so you can't walk anywhere from it.
