"Worst Anniversary celebration ever"

   04-12-2016
We stayed at the Le Franschhoek hotel and spa a couple years ago and had such a fantastic experience that we returned for our anniversary this year. Unfortunately the experience was VERY different this time. We were convinced that we got the worst room on the premises due to the fact that we didn't book through them directly, but used booking.com. We had no view and felt like we were staying in the staff quarters with staff vehicles being parked and washed in our parking bay. Our bed was old, unstable, noisy and extremely uncomfortable. We both woke up with sore backs every morning. Staff neglected to clean the room every afternoon and refill the coffee station. And then to top it all we had a filming crew and function in the hall right next to our room on the Sunday. They started setting-up on the Sunday afternoon. Banging equipment and screaming etc., eventually after numerous complaints to front desk, they quieted down after 11 that evening. Needless to say, no Sunday afternoon nap nor proper nights rest. Front desk knew that the function would be happening right outside our window, but did not inform nor warn us...eventually they offered to move us at 10 at night! Breakfast was good and room was clean. Unfortunately this hotel will never see us again even after we received a generic mail back from the GM for a free weekend to make up for the terrible experience. Lacks personal touch, felt like just another number.

"Extremely disappointing hotel with terrible service."

We stayed this previous weekend as part of our work end of year Xmas party & I can safely say it was the worst hotel experience of my life so far. The room was huge, but with nothing besides a bed so it looked empty & poorly thrown together w/ ugly decor. At the pool, each drink took at least an hour to come. I ordered a virgin daiquiri & after an hour the waiter bought me one full of booze (I'm pregnant). When I told him it contained alcohol he told me it didn't (it definitely did) & after me having to CONVINCE him took the drink away. I then ordered a virgin Mojito which never came. We then tried and failed to have lunch. The food took over 2 hours so eventually we left because we had spa treatments booked. At Camelot spa, the ladies at reception were completely disorganised & confused. They didn't communicate to us where to go, if we were meant to get changed into robes etc etc. You then have to walk in your robe through reception again in front of other people to the "relax" area with old stale food. During my bikini wax, other staff members walked in and out of the room which is HIGHLY irregular & inappropriate. Overall, the spa experience was infuriating. I therefore called to cancel my next one but kept getting cut off and calls dropped & so I just didn't rock up. The room service lunch took over an hour (I was told it would take 15 mins). During our afternoon nap then a staff member just WALKED into our room while we were fast asleep and totally naked. Not sure how this place could possibly get a 4 star rating. Everything was sub-standard, from the rooms to the food to the drinks to the staff. Would never recommend to anyone and certainly wouldn't ever return.

"Super and Luxury"

   04-12-2016
We stayed on our route around S Africa. In the middle of the Wine district. The hotel is really nice to sray in. Large rooms with a smsll balcony with vuew over the mountins. Very close to the small tiwn Franschhoeck. Lots of small boutiques etc. The hotel has a very proffessional and fruendly staff. We had dinner in the excellent restaurant with very good food and wine. Breakfast was super. The hitel is in a very quiet area. Ni e pool area as well with very good service at the pool.

"Two nights in the "French Quarter" of South Africa"

   01-12-2016
Recommended by our Travel Agent in the UK and a very popular place judging by the number of guests. Lovely (if freezing cold) pool and a popular wedding venue. A La Carte restaurant but the subdued lighting strained our ageing eyesight! Cottages are lovely and bed very comfortable with well appointed kitchenette. The Spa is very popular and so booking up before you arrive is essential as we were unable to get a slot in our two day visit.

"Really disappointed in their standards"

   01-12-2016
I had family from the US staying over at the hotel for a number of nights for my wedding. My in-laws had their hotel room switched three times as non of the AC units were working - please bear in mind that it was 34 degrees Celsius. My honeymoon suite also had to be swapped for another room as our AC unit also was not working - this all happened about 2 hours before my wedding. You pay very good money to stay in the hotel, so you expect the basic amenities to be in working order. The hotel's staff were very accommodating in assisting my family and I in having our issues resolved (finding rooms with working AC's), although it took quite some time to sort out - by which point our first experiences were unpleasant. The views from our room were fabulous and the breakfast is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
