Over Lion Sands Ivory Lodge

"It is fantastic but the ultimate experience depends on your guide"

   15-01-2017
There is nothing you miss at this lodge. A great location overlooking the sabi river, all you wish for accomodation after a refurbishment, excellent food, very flexible personal and attentive management and service and you are in skilled hand at the SPA. Definitely comparable with Singita. Why then the headline and only 4 points? You go there foremost for the animals and you rely on your guide. Particular during summer season, bushes are thick and green and animals don't must leave their shelter. Hence the motivation of your guide is crucial to find the animals. Unfortunately our guide was not engaged and we felt just been driven around. One example, we eventually saw a leopard on the move but our guide preferred driving back to the camp while other cars arrived enthusiastically. We were always the first in. Do you say someting to the guide? A tough question as you do not want to spoil the initimate relationship between you and your guide. Maybe one should have escalated it to management. All in all a great lodge but management has to make sure that one of the most important components to deliver the experience, the guide, is up to the challenge.

"Our favourite Place in the World"

From the seamless pick up to the final farewells this is the most wonderful experience. Camp Mother Tammy is on hand to ensure all is perfect and this lovely lady deserves accolades for her warmth and efficiency. The food cooked by chef extradionaire Xavier and perfectly served by Ben is exceptional and no special orders are to difficult. Our safari team Mike and Rester were amazing, spotting and tracking wild life with apparent ease. We saw so many wonderful animals and birds and in particular many leopards and so very close. The villa we enjoyed is huge, modern and smart with all amenities and more than we could expect. To finish I must say thank you to the entire team for such a wonderful few days and we sincerely hope we can return for a third visit.

"Christmas "

Extremely luxurious, staff exceptional, food worthy of Michelin star. The butler was very helpful. The spa was wonderful very pampering. Saw all the big 5. Highly recommended. Suitable for teenage kids, guides are interactive and try their hardest to find the animals. Tammi was very helpful.

"Bucket list trip!"

   25-12-2016
Going on a safari has been on our bucket list for quite a few years. Staying at Lion Sands Sabi Sands, Ivory lodge beat our expectations. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. Not one detail was missed. Our safari drives were made even better by our guide Mike and tracker Rector. We cannot thank them enough for giving us the experience of a lifetime to see a mother leopard and her baby. The lodge was beautifully appointed and the staff could not have been more accommodating to us all. A big shoutout to the chef for making a few picky eaters very happy. Overall, we couldn't have been happier to spend time with our family at the ivory lodge.

"The BEST experience!! "

   24-12-2016
In short, Ivory Lodge is the most incredible place you could stay whilst on safari. I could not recommend it enough. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on the first leg of our belated honeymoon and it was my birthday while we were there too. From the moment Patrick picked us up from the airport in the defender and pointed out impala and a couple of other things on the drive to the lodge I knew we were in for a treat. On arrival we met the amazing Tammy who instantly made us feel so welcome and special. A hippo was there to welcome us as well which was so cool. Our room........ it's the most amazing place I've ever seen. The decor, the little touches like your mini bar and bottle of champagne, the pool, the outside shower, the view, the list is endless it was completely perfect. We were absolutely shattered when we arrived and had toyed with the idea of relaxing in the room rather than head out for our first drive. I'm so glad we went.. we met Neil our guide who we adore and want to be best friends with forever! On our first drive we saw two male lions, hippos, Cape buffalo and a giraffe. We watched the most beautiful sunset over a gin and tonic, a really amazing start to our stay. Our drives were incredible. Neil and Patrick, our tracker, were not only incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly talented at finding the animals they are such lovely people that we thoroughly enjoyed being around. You spend 7 hours a day with them and I never expected them to make the trip for us, which they absolutely did. Everyone at the lodge introduced themselves to us which I loved, Patricia and Tammy were always on hand taking care of anything we needed. The property was fully booked when we were there which meant only 17 people! Amazing! Our butler, Errol was amazing. Once Charles and I were given the option to eat in our room, we did that every lunch and dinner!! It's not that we're unsociable but the room was so amazing we wanted to maximise our time spent there. From the room we saw two hippos, a rhino and a herd of elephants. Honestly a memory I will cherish forever. We had a massage in our room (staying in the room again! Ha!) which was to die for.. the therapists were lovely and the treatment was so relaxing. On my birthday Errol and Tammy had set up the most beautiful table outside, a bottle of champagne, candles by the bath, Rose petals everywhere. It was such a surprise to come back to and really made my birthday. When the time came to leave, I was genuinely devastated even though we had 7 nights in Cape Town to look forward to. I honestly wanted to cry. I couldn't believe it was over. If the lodge hadn't have been fully booked we would have stayed another night or two. This was my first safari but I don't think 3 nights was enough, my husband loved it as much as me but was quite content with 3 nights. The animals, the land, the lodge, the food, everything was amazing but the thing that made it for me was the team at Ivory lodge. I cannot stress enough how fantastic and passionate this team are. This experience was honestly magical. I think they thought I was joking when I said we would be back every year.... I wasn't!! It's the best place I've ever been in my life and I am counting down the days until we can make it back there again. Thank you for the most incredible time, we made some fantastic memories and I can't even describe how grateful we are. Keep doing what you are doing, you are the best. See you in approx 365 days ;) Kat & Charles Martin xx
