Het Addo Elephant National Park is een aantrekkelijk nationaal park op 70 kilometer ten noordoosten van Port Elizabeth.
We stayed in a rondawel that had a perfect view of the watering hole. As soon as we arrived there were elephants hanging around and one night we saw a black Rhino. The room was comfortable but the stove in the communal kitchen extremely slow to heat up (and didnt get very hot). Unfortunately we booked a sunrise and sunset drive with the addo game drive centre of which neither was actually during a sunset or rise... The guide was knowledgeable and friendly but our sundowner drinks were had next to the fence and at the bottom of a hill. I was expecting a view. We also planned a horse riding safari but this was cancelled because of minimal rain. So great room location but unfortunate misleading game drives.
"Comfortable, well maintained "
Stayed in chalet 30, a 2/4. Beautiful views and game viewing from the patio. Everything you need, clean and a lovely hot shower. My only complaint was the fridge that was making so much noise that we couldn't hear the hyenas at night! The flood lit water hole was wonderful even though we saw nothing after dark. Elephants and buffalo during the afternoon. The on site restaurant (although average) meant we didn't need to cook! In the morning we were surrounded by birds waiting for breakfast crumbs I must say personally I preferred the spekboom tented camp as it just felt more like the 'bush/African experience' A great experience overall
"Decent National Park Accommodation"
We stayed in one of the family bungalows which has a double bed and a sleeper couch. The kitchen is reasonably equipped, but the bathroom really needed a good clean and some more maintenance. The stoep is the best spot to sit out, watch the bush, and enjoy a braai or breakfast. Overall the units are decent, but lacking in regular maintenance which would make them easier to look after in the long-term - something SANParks doesn't seem to get right at all their reserves. We didn't eat at the camp restaurant at all because it always seemed insanely full of foreign tour buses - not the place to seek peace and quiet. In comparison our stoep overlooking the bush was far preferable!
"Camping in Addo Rest Camp"
We went during the quieter period of the year (July). It was very quiet and the camp site was quite empty which provided us with enough privacy. I could imagine it could get quite busy during the holiday seasons so keep this in mind when travelling. We also experienced small animals roaming in our campsite which was quite nice.
"Close to exit near Colchester. Agressive Vervet Monkeys"
Matyholweni was very nice inside, very quiet and nice place to get rest. The views were of trees/plant in a valley. Not the best view if you are looking for watching wild life from your deck. You are not able to sit and eat on the deck - aggressive Vervet monkeys. We preferred the Main Camp cottages due to the fact that it was closer to waterholes for sundowner animal viewing. Also close to the store, restaurant, and interpretive center.
