"Garden Route Game Lodge"

Stayed for a night when in SA in February, we booked the night on the basis that we wanted to see some wildlife but because of the way we had planned our trip it was not possible to get up to Kruger to stay in a lodge or camp. The Garden Route Game Lodge was a great experience, we had read pretty positive reviews before booking but my expectation before arrival was, do not expect too much. This expectation quickly evaporated from entering the gates we were welcomed personally, check in was super efficient and we were taken straight to our room which was a fantastic roundaval complete with ac, fridge, bathroom and a wonderful deck overlooking the valley where you could see the antelope grazing. There is a pool in the gardens and chairs / loungers is you wish to relax before your evening game drive. Our guide was Abrey and he was hugely knowledgeable, the drives are about 2 hours (or a little longer) and you are taken across the reserve in an open top vehicle which is a great experience. The guides provide you with a constant dialogue of the area, the animals and what to look out for, they also ensure that you see as much as possible. After the evening game drive you have dinner, this was a buffet but with a grill providing all types of meats from ostrich to kudu to wildebeest sausages, beef steak and springbok, all beautifully cooked with great service. The morning game drive starts early and is another 2 hours where you see lots of other residents that you may not have seen the previous evening, this is followed by a fantastic breakfast in the dining room, all self service with hot and cold options. I was blown away by how good the experience was, all aspects of the stay were really good and the staff make it special. It is important to remember that you are on a fenced reserve and as such there are limitations, the lions have to be kept separate otherwise they will chew their way through all the antelope on the reserve in a couple of weeks. If you want an experience where there are no fences you need to heard up to Kruger, this is not only a long way from the southern cape but is also much more expensive. The Garden Route Game Lodge is great value, well presented and we really enjoyed our stay.

"Cheetah on the hunt"

We had a superb experience during our stay in end May 2017. The hospitality, the game drives, the knowledge of our guide Hans, can all be described in the superlative. Hippos, Cheetah with cubs and on the hunt, Springbok, Rhinos, Lions, Giraffe, Kudu, Eland.... we saw them all up close ! And the meals at the Serengeti's restaurant - a real dining pleasure. This was more than value for money.

"Fantastic value for money"

We had the most wonderful stay, and thoroughly enjoyed the game drives with knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. The experience from start to finish was great with friendly and attentive staff. It is a great stopover if touring the Garden Route. If you have a package that includes a morning and afternoon game drive I would suggest you do both - was tempted not to get up early, but we were glad we did. This is a wonderful, family friendly, homely lodge.

"Spectacular experience "

One can only think of building such a hotel/resort and here garden route has already done it. Absolute brilliance. I stayed there with my family as a part of the GEMS group. The experience was way beyond my expectations. To start with the magnificent cottages. You'll be awestruck as to how they've managed to fit each and everything a hotel room should have in such a mini yet comfortable cottage. The hotel staff is always smiling and friendly. Kudos to their housekeeping team for being able to manage the rooms. Our highlight was the safari with our expert guide Elmari (Sorry if I got the spelling incorrect ). she was absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable . she took us around the entire area and very patiently explained everything. Hats off to her. We saw almost all types of animals. It became quite cold by the time we came back and there they were ready with hot chocolate and sherry waiting for Us. What a lovely gesture. Breakfast spread was good. I can go on and on writing about this beautiful property. Keep it up team would love to visit again. Once again Elmari deserves a special Thankyou.

"Nice enough"

We stayed here for two nights in April, we realized pretty quickly that one night would have been enough. The lodge and reserve was beautiful however the drives were too set up for us, the elephants and lions where in there own sections so no element of excitement when spotting them because they were always going to be located in one specific area. I think that's the aim of a game drive in a reserve as it isn't advertised as a safari but it was just a bit disappointing. The game drives were nice and the guides were really informative, especially Robyn she made it for us! She engaged the whole group with history, quizzes and humour, Thank you! This was a nice enough place, our chalet overlooked the watering hole which was nice watching the water buffalo making tracks down to it each evening. The chalet was clean and well kept but small improvements would go a long way such as closing off the roof to the bathroom and longer beds.
