"Excellent place to safari "
Myself and my husband stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, and it was the highlight of our SA trip. As other reviews have said, staff and attention to detail amazing. We were disappointed on arrival, having missed our first game drive, there was no emails or correspondence to tell us when to be there, and we were only 30 minutes late. The rooms are beautiful, full of natural light and stunning views, with a great shower and relaxing bath. The food was excellent, probably too good as my clothes don't fit too good! Vicki was an excellent guide, and worked hard to ensure we saw as much as possible. The rooms got really cold at night, and we woke up with the cold on all three nights. Jo told us about the electric blankets on the last night, but we should have added extra blankets also! We were really sad to leave, and hope to get back soon!
But....I did enjoy my stay at the Main Lodge much more. If you insist for the luxury version, though, be reassured that the place is up to the expectations: beautiful room/tent. All amenities with a fantastic view and privacy. Food is very good. Game rides were successful and very pleasant. Still, however, I found the Main Lodge cosier, with equally successful game drives but far cheaper. A note of warning for people with serious aracnophobia: a tent in Africa is never a good idea. No matter how luxurious. Having said all this, I did like the place and I would come back again.
"The sunrise and sunset safaris are wonderful 10/10"
Arriving by boat is delightful. During the safaris we saw lions mating, had a walk past by a herd of elephants, a rhino taking on two lions etc. etc. The food and service are excellent. The barbeque evening with local choir entertaining us for a while was good but the choir need to introduce and have a party themselves. Our guide was excellent but I feel it would be better if he joined his group only for dinner each day (not every meal). The ‘safari tent accommodation’ was a surprise – in reality it’s a permanent structure but with a tent roof – romantic etc. but when the wind blows it may wake you as it flaps noisily; the accommodation was well designed and I enjoyed a bath with the doors open to the elements. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Internet coverage is currently slow and very limited.
A huge treat hat exceeded expectations. The team work really hard to give such a personal touch that the lodge feels like your own, very indulgent home, rather than a hotel. Every tent has a lovely view, they are very spacious and comfortable. We were lucky enough to explore the reserve with two of the four guides. Wayne is head guide and hugely enthusiastic & knowledgable. Louis is also kind and helpful. We will cherish many memories of our time at Settler's Drift
I was very lucky to spend my 50th birthday here. What an amazing time I had. The accommodation was lovely - huge rooms with open bath and shower (toilet was enclosed). Very clean and had a well stocked mini bar which was free. Amazing views from the room and the main lodge. Loved having breakfast and being able to spot giraffes, zebra, ostriches and much more whilst eating. The food was excellent too - nice variation and endless alcohol on tap too although everyone was in bed early due to the early starts. Our guide Jordan was absolutely amazing and a really nice guy too. His knowledge for what he does was excellent and he was very informative. We saw lots of animals on our trips and the best one was on my birthday morning - loved the coffee stops in the morning and wine stops mid safari in the evenings. One rerun after each trip we got met by a member of staff with cool towels and a drink. Got to see all the animals I wanted and up close too - got some amazing pictures to remember forever. I had a massage and French polish while I was there in the spa - very reasonably priced and the massage was so relaxing. My French polish was very good too. The staff were all very polite and attentive and Phil and Jo were also excellent hosts as Managers. Nothing was too much trouble and we honestly didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. We met two lovely couples who were in our jeep and spent my birthday dinner with my husband and I and Jordan. I then got a chocolate cake after dinner and the staff sung happy birthday to me. I can honestly say that my time at the settlers drift was fantastic and I hope to return one day.
